  1. My best guess is that if enough passengers are disrupted by this, Royal Caribbean will adjust the sailing times to accommodate the disruption. We disembarked from a cruise in France and had our dinner at the Eiffel Tower canceled because of President Trump's visit to Paris, so I guess he has a way of disrupting cruise plans. ?
  2. Something like that happened during one of Matt's Periscopes. It almost got me blocked before he saw who posted it. ?
  3. For what it's worth, the plantiff did seek punitive damages according to the complaint (attached). Count 4, #34 Whether that was factured into the award, I don't know. Spearman-Complaint.pdf
  4. @KLAconQueso That's a Canadian term. ? Afterall, their dollars are named after birds and they have Loonies and Twoonies. Note to self: proof read autocorrect when half asleep in bed.
  5. Since you're ducked and it's a walk off port, I think you'll be fine as long as the ship makes it to port and gets cleared in time. In my experience, though, the ship almost always pass their own schedules and shows guests off a few minutes earlier than posted. In addition, the tour operator likely wants people there early to account for people running late, handle payment, liability waivers, and the like. Calling isn't a bad idea either as previously suggested; that way the tour operator is aware especially if you are running late for some reason.
  6. Congratulations. Michelle has me set up on a Norwegian cruise out of Amsterdam next month, a New Zealand cruise out of Sydney next December, a Barcelona to Venice cruise in July 2019, and a couple of group cruises to boot!
  7. I'm just trying to have a conversation here and this is the second time you've been antagonistic in this thread alone. Notice that I said "could" rather than "were." Perhaps we should follow the administrator's advice and stick to the topic of the case, which I was attempting to do.
  8. It's hard to say, but given how long it dragged on, the chronic pain that was inflicted resulting from poor treatment, job loss, and perhaps limited employability because of the injury, it might be warranted. There could be punitive damages included here, too, but I don't recall if that was specified. It's also likely that the jury wanted to stick it to a corporation, which is why it will be reduced on appeal as stated by @NS8VN .
  9. Remember, though, that there's no guaranty when or if the 10 drink punch card will show up. Typically, it will not show up before the 4th day, although that policy may have changed.
  10. So true. I was looking at my cruise history and noticed that I only had 9 cruises before my son. Since his birth we've doubled that number and he'll be on his 19th cruise next month. Having a child is what really made us fall in love with cruising simply because it is so convenient with children.
  11. For me, it's rarely a value. At most, I think I break even especially on longer cruises. After all, how many specialty coffees can one consume per day. ? However, for my wife, she's content with bringing her own non-alcoholic drinks on. Even on cruise lines the openly allow for it, that's just one additional thing that I don't personally want to lug at check-in.
  12. I've added you to the list. Enjoy your cruise.
  13. We stayed in this area, too, and really enjoyed it stay and access to grocery stores and more choices in hotels. Plus, it was only about 75 cents for a bus into Old San Juan, although we took a cab back.
  14. Agreed! My reply wasn't meant to imply that it was frivolous. I was responding to the fact that companies are sued every day of the week as mentioned by @twangster ; I wasn't passing judgment on this case. With regards to the employee, the injury resulted in chronic pain, potential malpractice in the treatment of her injuries, lost wages, minimal disability pay, and the like resulting from trying to prevent someone from being injured by a closing door. It also appears that there may have been a safety or design flaw in the way the doors operated, allowing someone's hand to be pulled into the pocket the the door slides into if his or her hand is operating the latch/handle. I apologize if my reply wasn't taken as such.
  15. @LadyDawg Thanks for returning to this thread and providing us with an update.
  16. Most places offer an option to pay for tickets in advance and it's usually worth doing so as it saves you time versus standing in line. Some places also operate on a timed entry basis, so buying in advanced lets you pick the best time for you.
  17. McDonald's is currently being sued for not offering a Quarter Pounder without cheese which used to be on the menu. The plaintiffs claim they're being overcharged when they order it without cheese as they're not being compensated for that which they have taken off when ordering.
  18. I completely agree, which is why I have never booked a cruise vacation through them. Any change results in a $75 charge each time (or as the last time I inquired). Hence why I use Michelle at MEI Travel (sponsor alert). As an added benefit of a TA, we took a cruise on a competing cruise line that offers 12 beverage vouchers per North American cruiser. We received ours, but our friends who boarded two days later at another port did not receive theirs. Guest Services said North American Customer Service needed to handle it and contact the ship, while Customer Service said that Guest Services aboard the ship needed to handle it. As a result, I emailed my TA and she was able to get it sorted out even though it was NOT her fault.
  19. While I agree, this isn't the standard for those who use club stores that have travel agencies.
  20. I think the likes outweigh the dislikes. Except for the extra time and airfare from the West Coast for me, everything else is wonderful in my opinion. San Juan makes an excellent pre/post-cruise stay, it's a U.S. territory so most U.S. cell phone plans work there without a roaming charge, the itineraries are much better with more and better ports, etc. The only other real negative I can think of is that the ships aren't often the newest or most recently refurbished. But in some cases, that's a plus as when I sailed the Jewel I liked her better before the refurbishment when the removed the Sea View Grill.
  21. I bet you likely could have made it, but I wouldn't have wanted the stress either. Plus, you can take a leisurely pace to disembark. I think a lot of people forget that the airport isn't all that efficient and that all passengers have to go through an agricultural inspection which slows the process.
  22. I was considering an annual plan from Allianz, but the pricing didn't make sense for us as we're doing Europe and New Zealand. As a result, the maximums weren't enough to cover those trips. While I'm lucky to have health insurance that would cover evacuation, I always buy extra travel insurance just in case, but mostly in the case the trip is interrupted because of aging parents or in-laws. I've only had to make one claims in a couple of dozen cruises. That was with Allianz and it was relatively painless.
  23. On most of the cruise lines now, the muster drills are taking place indoors. When we were on the MSC Miraviglia where people embark at all five of the port stops, the muster drill took place in the main theater. Afterward, we were escorted to our actual muster station by the station captains so we'd know where to go in an actual emergency. What surprised me about the Allure is not having the life jackets in the cabin itself; they're distributed at the muster station. I've never experienced this on any other ship.
