  1. So, what's in a name? Each of the classes of ships have names that...well..."go together" for the most part... or do they? Freedom class.... Freedom, Independence, and Liberty... all synonyms for, well...Freedom. Voyager class... Voyager, Navigator, Mariner, Adventure, and Explorer... all synonyms for people who venture out and explore stuff... Then the lines start to blur a little bit... Radiance class... Radiance, Jewel, Brilliance, and Serenade... Radiance/Jewel/Brilliance sound "shimmery", and Serenade is just kind of an odd-ball one that's just tacked on on the end... Vision class... Vision, Enchantment, Grandeur...to me, in my mind I think "big looking" - but then we can't forget Rhapsody, which is a style of a musical piece.. Then the lines blur even more... Oasis class.... Oasis, Allure, Harmony, and now Symphony... Oasis and Allure really don't have much of anything to do with each other... but Harmony and Symphony are both "musical" in nature... so in theory, the next Oasis class ship... might it going to be something else entirely, or some other word from the musical milieu? Quantum Class... I have no idea. Quantum, Anthem, and Ovation.... Anthem is a musical style, Ovation is when you're standing up and applauding at the end of something you're amazed at, and Quantum... is..kind of "sciencey" So... what do you all think about Royal Caribbean's naming strategy... it seems like there maybe, at one time, was a rhyme or reason to it... are they abandoning said rhyme or reason? Should there be one? I like the consistency with naming within the class, certainly helps me remember the names of the ships.
  2. February 2017: Majesty 2/6 June 2017: Anthem 6/22 August 2017: Oasis 8/20
  3. I've been on a number of cruises so far: Royal Caribbean: Freedom & Legend Celebrity: Horizon & Zenith (no longer in service) Norwegian: Dreamward & Norway Cunard: QE2 I've been on ships both great and small, and with Royal's new Quantum and Oasis class, and "Oasis 4 (Symphony)" in production, it's making me wonder if Royal might put out any newer smaller ships. Are they only going for the biggest and baddest ships, or might they come out with something in-between to keep that small ship feel but still be innovative and cutting-edge... Might this Icon class that's in the works be bigger than Oasis? Fit somewhere in between? What do you all think ?
  4. Sometimes people intentionally leak stuff to generate a buzz...
  5. Just wondering if anyone's done the Beach Bed on CoCoCay? How are they? How's the experience?
  6. Hey everyone - Tell me about a time when the captain had changed your itinerary mid-cruise. What happened? Where were you supposed to go, and where'd you wind up going? I was on Freedom in August 2016, and our itinerary was CoCoCay, St Thomas, and St Maarten. After we left CoCoCay, we found out a Hurricane was brewing around the region we were heading to, so the captain turned us west and we went to Costa Maya, and then Cozumel. I had a great time, but people in my party (and others) griped about not having gone to St. Thomas and St. Maarten specifically. I was just happy to be someplace nice with a place to go snorkeling and relax on a beach. That's what vacation's for, right? Any day on a cruise ship is better than a day on land and not on vacation... So, what experiences have you all had?
  7. Vision is going to Galveston for 4-night's to Cozumel, then I heard Anthem is coming to Galveston from someone on one of the recent RC Blog Periscope sessions.
  8. Hey everyone, Just thought I'd share... if you're looking for an alternative to Royal Caribbean's website for the purpose of browsing cruises, try cruises.united.com The site loads more consistently, and works well on mobile devices - more so than Royal's site. Also, if you have one of the United MileagePlus credit cards from Chase, you can get bonus miles if you book your cruise through United. Depending on the room type you can get as many as 7 bonus points per dollar.
  9. There were a few LGBT meet ups on Freedom in August of 2016 - I'll keep an eye out I'll be on Majesty on Monday
  10. I've found that they'll tell you what time zone to follow, but usually staying on ship's time is the best way to ensure you'll make it back in time. I always try to get back on the ship at least an hour before sail away time just to be safe.
  11. RCL's website has a mind of its own, sadly, but usually clearing your history/cache files helps. I've started using cruises.united.com to book since their site loads a bit faster and is easy to navigate - their mobile layout is also nicer than Royal's for now, but I have a feeling they'll improve that some time soon.
  12. I'm on Anthem on June 22nd as well - I'm not planning on partaking in any of the America's cup facilities... I'm hoping it won't be too crowded. I rented a scooter and am planning on scooting over to Horseshoe bay and then going around Hamilton a bit before going back to the ship. Any guesses as to whether or not it'll be a zoo on the island as far as crowds go??
  13. Some areas of the ship will have better WiFi coverage than others. When I was on Freedom, WiFi wasn't great in my cabin but was better in public areas and around the ship. Generally speaking you should be able to e-mail/text/wifi-call just fine, but video streaming may not be crystal clear but it does largely depend on the ship and also its position.
  14. Freedom's pools were fresh water, I believe Majesty is salt water, I think it varies from ship to ship.
  15. I'd say 11am at the absolute earliest, but bear in mind you've got to be at the airport at least an hour and a half to 2 hours before the flight, so I usually go for flights around 1pm or later.
  16. Hi everyone! Just recently discovered the wonderful community here with Matt, the podcasts, the Periscopes, the forums... Love this! Really excited to be here. I'm John, originally from Northern NJ but living in Austin, TX for the last 2 years and change. Had been on a number of cruises when I was younger, then after a gap of about 15 years went on Freedom of the Seas back in August 2016 and have been bitten by the bug once again. I'm very excited to be going on 3 cruises in 2017! Majesty on Feb 6th Anthem in June (little birthday "to me from me" present!) Oasis on August 20th with the big family group I've also started my blog and YouTube channel back up and will be posting pictures/videos from my cruises for sure! Please feel free to have a look and subscribe! I can't wait to get to know more of you and hopefully get on one of the group cruises! John
  17. Hi everyone! Going on the Majesty in just 4 days, and super excited to do so! I'm introducing my friend Mark to the wonderful world of cruising, and how better to do so than a Junior Suite on Majesty's 4 night Bahamas itinerary!! I'll be posting pictures and updates over on my blog, www.johnbamber.com/blog I'll be on Anthem in June and Oasis in August, so I'll be posting about those cruises as those dates get closer, but please feel free to check out my blogs and enjoy the content! Thanks again! John @iamjohnbamber
