  1. If you go through the port you can take a taxi to Mahahual, and there are a ton of beach clubs allowing for a chill day. Some ideas are: Maya Chan Beach Krazy Lobster Jaimes at the Blue Reef Yaya beach club Pitaya Beach Club Pez Quaro Malecon 21
  2. Yes, my wife sleeps in when on vacation, and I often can not sleep that late, so I go running then often hit the fitness center. On Oasis class, 10 laps is a little over four miles. Even early, I have issues with groups of people taking up the whole width, or worse a whole group taking a ton selfies. The track on Quantum classes is higher, but not appreciably shorter. The problem is you have to go early enough before people start laying out. Downside with the higher decks is that so many people go walk in the wrong direction.
  3. It's not that it's not so good because of poor acting or singing, it's not so good because it's just not a good play. I went to the mens room at intermission, and every guy in there was asking, "Do you know what's going on?", "Do you know what this is about?" Cats is one and done play for me. But I'd gladly see Mama Mia again and again.
  4. We did Alaska in Sept of 2023. Excursions are considerably more expensive than the Mexico/Caribbean counterparts. Not surprisingly, anything where a helicopter takes you to a glacier is pricy. What surprised me was that the sled dog excursions were pretty pricy as well, and in reviews I read you really don't do much sledding. We did a tour in Sitka, the Yukon train in Skagway, and rented a car in Juneau and did whale watching (on a boat) as well as visited Mendenhall glacier.
  5. I did not see a roll call for this week yet, so starting it out. That week is our anniversary, and my Sister and Brother-in-Law and his Sister and Brother-in-Law are also booked on the same cruise. We are all doing the early traditional dinner together.
  6. Our Galveston cruise of 2022 we stayed at the Holiay Inn Express. It was nice thta it wa walking distance to a ton of stuff, and next door to some restaurants that will get you into the cruising mood. Staying on the seawall offers a lot of nearby choices of things to do.
  7. My wife and I just finished an Alaskan cruise on Ovation in September. To us, the ship was big enough, and there were enough activities, that we never got bored. I worked out in some mornings on the running track and climbed the rock climbing wall several times, and we did the bumper cars a bunch of times (and it was a blast). The whole area of the ship (seaplex) with bumper cars has lots of activities a 12 year might do (foosball, ping pong, video game consoles, etc). North Star is cool, especially when in port, make sure to reserve a time though. The sky diving simulator was very fun also, and I suspect a 12 year old would love to do that. Excursions are quite a bit more expensive than your typical Caribbean cruise, and while we thought dog sledding would be fun, it was very expensive and the reviews say you actually sled for just a short amount of time. In Sitka we did the Yukon White Pass train ride, and it was incredibly scenic, lots of pictures from that. In Juneau we did whale watching and went to Mendenhall glacier park, both of which I'd do again. I hope this helps.
  8. Has anyone done a cruise from Florida, and on debarkation day, fly to San Juan and embark on a San Juan cruise? Specifically we are considering a 2 night cruise on Oasis in Oct 2025 from Ft Lauderdale, then fly to San Juan and do a 7 night cruise on Rhapsody. This would be our first time trying to cruise back-to-back, and obviously back-to-back departing from two different cities. I called Royal and they said the Rhapsody leaves the port at 8:00pm, so in theory we should have plenty of time to fly there, especially if we disembark early. Are we crazy to try this? What pitfalls can you think of that we have not? Thanks everyone, JJ
