Some online savings accounts are up to 3% or more interest. No reason to pay it off early, just bank it until they need it.

Is the individual a child or adult? There are some exceptions and being a child is one of them as well as being medically unable to get the "vaccine." Still crazy that although we know it doesn't prevent anyone from getting C19, they still pretend that it does for situations like this.

Have extra official copies. I have my actual original without parent names which doesn't work for passports. My wife ordered and received a new one to be safe. We've both cruised before on birth certificates, and were planning on our next cruise for late next October. We had planned to get them before then especially since the ports were both Mexican ports far away from the embassy, etc. However we decided that Oct was too far away so we booked this one late to fill the gap. First cruises since the C word - didn't want to cruise while passengers or crew were forced to mask.

Thanks for the link. Saw images in a random search too. I recall when we had a front window on Oasis, the room steward would come in and close the curtains each evening. There was also a note on the wall to keep them closed at night. Submitted near minimum bids on balcony and below upgrades. We'll see. Booked thus trip late because our Oct cruise was too far away.

OK. Checked in an used the barcode trick to determine we are in 6508 on Mariner. Front of the ship. Anyone know if the slanted front gives you more room, or less?

I have a GTY ocean view for Mariner. There are multiple ocean view room types (panoramic, spacious, ultra spacious, etc). Does the GTY work across them all? Reason I ask is that there are no longer any base ocean view rooms available and checking a few weeks ago, there were only a couple. Does that increase odds of getting a higher room in the ocean view category with the GTY? Has anyone every had a GTY and gotten an "upgrade" beyond the base room GTY? Also, we got our royal up offers so in light of my question above, would I be bidding on something I might get at my current price anyway?

8 weeks from when they received it? They have 11/25 as the date they started processing it so I have 8 weeks and a day before we leave.

Sailing Jan 23rd on a 4 night to the Bahamas. We ordered passports 3 weeks ago knowing they may not be here in time. On the check in screen, they want us to choose which documents we have. Can that be changed later? What should we select? Passports were official received at the state department just over 8 weeks from time of sailing. State department processing times are currently 6 to 9 weeks.

Back in 2016, I left our car in DC at a hotel parking lot where we stayed the night before leaving. I found a site called snagaspace.com that contracted with hotels near airports to sell hotel parking. I recall I spent about half the cost of uncovered parking at the airport and got a nice spot in their garage.

Emotional support animals are not service animals and are not protected under the ADA like a service animal is. My wife kicks them out of her restaurant all the time. Generally it is easy to tell the difference, like the time an 'Emotional Support' dog nipped at a passing customer. Service dogs won't do anything but lay under the table in silence. You are permitted to ask specific questions about the claimed service dog. https://adata.org/guide/service-animals-and-emotional-support-animals#:~:text=Emotional support animals%2C comfort animals, not considered service animals either.

We would be coming from a hotel near the airport.

Leaving out of Port Canaveral in Jan and will probably choose to go with GoPort for transportation. If we choose as early of a check in time as possible, and GoPort doesn't get us there that early, can we check in as soon as we do get there?

Denied boarding Independence Nov 28

Guessing it wasn't a requirement in 2004. It definitely is now. -

I believe in those cases, they have the space for the parents names, but list unknown or similar in that space. My original has no place for them to even be listed. -

And to get one, you'll need an official birth certificate showing both parents names. My original state issued birth certificate from 1977 did not list parents names so I needed a new one to get a passport (although I was a able to cruise with it previously). Also keep in mind that they keep it while processing the passport. -
Can you travel having cancer?
PL8SWPR replied to Templecruiser's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
Definitely between you and your doctors. Follow their advice. I'm guessing it will depend on how aggressive your type is. I took a cruise in 2018 to celebrate end of interferon injections for stage 3 melanoma. Used sunscreen heavy that trip because I had an oncology appointment days after returning. She would have kick my arse had I come back burnt :-). I have my last PET scan (#10) in a couple weeks before being declared "cured." Hang in there... -
The cruise planner deals were set to expire at midnight, but they pushed them another 48 hrs.

Basic Voom? Is it still available?
PL8SWPR replied to laurabelle1317's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
Same for a 23 Jan sailing. They actually had a Internet/DBP combo for $86 IIRC on a 4 night. DBP alone was $78. -
We've done 3 cruises without passports and decided to apply yesterday. Applied 9 weeks to the day of departure for our next one (Nassau/CocoCay) and if they don't come in, we have backup birth certificates to use. For the 2 of us, it was $360 total. Not a lot, but not peanuts either. Now consider many are traveling with kids, etc and the price can then be $700+. We decided to finally get them because our October cruise is to Mexico where getting the needed documents to fly out is more difficult due to the required travel distance to the port.

9 weeks to Mariner. Fingers crossed...

While it's not refundable unless you pay the $150 or so, the change fee is $100 per person IIRC. I always do non refundable. Odds are 0 that I'd have to outright cancel and extremely low I'd have to move it. Rather save the $150 per cruise knowing the change fee would amount to just $200 if something came up.

Ridiculous hold times for customer support
PL8SWPR replied to Katie B's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
It's only because of the black Friday sale. Prior to that I've called a couple times in the last week or so with no hold times. -
Going on our 4th (Jan) and 5th (Oct) cruises in 2023 and first since 2018. We've never gotten anything beyond the soda package, but are buying the DBP for at least the next one then seeing if we think it's worth it for us before buying for the one after that. Question is, do the drinks still show up on the stateroom account (but with a $0 charge obviously) to track consumption vs cost of the package?
