  1. At least from his room you can see something past the end of the life boat. Mine doesn't even have that much! Add in two crane arms within inches of the balcony itself and you can see why its so upsetting. Like you I was quite clear "NO deck 6!!!! No obstructions!". This room is worse than obstructed! Letters all sent. Some responses coming through already. No rooms to swap out for at this time. They know they blew it on this one and they are all about switching my room if they can find one... NOW lets hope someone cancels. I'd hate to be on the wrong side of me. I simply do not lose when I'm in the right...
  2. We go Aug 28... We were supposed to be 2D which is a double and no obstruction. Instead we got 1 E quad full obstructed view. #6664 Were next to the hump so cant see forward and heavy machinery blocks all view aft.
  3. I was told by the rep that this one would be obstruction free GTY if I paid the higher figure that kept defaulting. As for worst... This ones position really is without embellishing the single worst on the whole ship. Close to the hump so we cant look up the side of the ship. Below the water is blocked out by the life boat cradle. above and within reaching distance is big machinery used to lower or lift the boat. The boat itself blocks view outward or upward. It's midship is two feet from our balcony. This is quantum as well... Booked and paid for last April...
  4. As someone who has been gold twice, platinum twice, and about to be Emerald for the second time because of C+A errors, I feel your pain. The office you contacted (Bayley) often gets stuff fixed that other reps simply don't have the skill set for... I would have tried to call in as someone else but my baritone voice would be a dead give away that I'm not my Fiancée's teen age daughter... Hope your issue gets sorted out. I'm on the sailing right after yours...
  5. Trip "shows" sold out" but several times it did before, then suddenly there were bunches of rooms up for grabs. I did book GTY but at the higher rate that was displayed. I book every trip with "I pick" balcony and pay in full right then. This was a glicth. Still its GTY... I got this cruise for my Fiancé who in a couple week period had to put her cat down, had her champion show horse ( She's an equestrian pro trainer) die suddenly and then to cap it off lost her mother. This was supposed to be just relaxing cruise to Alaska in tribute to her mom who always wanted to go. Had unpleasant experience with TA a while back and slow to go back.
  6. Appears they are sold out??? We didn't ask for but room sleeps four which I would think would be in high demand as its the last date before kids go back to school.
  7. I think I know the answer already but I'll ask... I always pick my own balcony room and pay in full at booking time. This sailing was a bit different. I clicked on "Pick your own room" and it defaulted to GTY though the price was higher like normal. A glitch. I decided to book over the phone instead. The agent found the same glitch. I told him that I would book on condition of no deck 6 or obstructed views. He assured me that they would give a good room since I was paying the higher rate and paid in full so early. I hated seeing that "GTY" but each time I called they assured me all was good. To rebook would have cost more than double and I would have lost my balcony deposits and some OBC I have... Last night was check in. I was immediately put out of my comfort zone when I saw "deck 6" on my sea pass. I did the ol "wallet" trick and to verify, scanned the bar code and both showed same cabin number... Over to deck plan and about threw up! You could not be more obstructed view! Lifeboat midships basically touching balcony. Big hydraulic arm center stage. By the up so no view up the side of ship. No view any angle. You tube video verified, possibly worst on ship. Not only that a privacy issue comes into play. People walking the track a deck below have a pretty clear view of the room via the life boat windows reflecting! So the question is... Am I doomed to deal with this or is there some appeal process? Open to suggestions...
  8. Roatan Fun Tours basically did a private all day tour for two of us for about $150. Started with sloths and monkeys, did the rum and chocolate factories, snorkeling, had fried lobster for lunch and watched others zip line. Costa Maya - Taxi to the beach village. Lots of shopping stalls, restaurants, bars and $25 an hour massages... Cozumel. We did KaoKao chocolate factory tour then spent afternoon snorkeling at "money bar". Had enormous plate of nachos two cokes each for about $15 and they let us stay for several hours...
  9. I try to stay off the west coast in general but unfortunately if I want to do Alaska I gotta do the west coast. LAX, SFO, ETC are disasters and I hear Seattle is not a heck of a lot better in certain things like TSA lines and other stuff. Fear not, ride share is not something you'll see my fiancé do.
  10. The whole point of going to Alaska is to see uniquely Alaskan stuff! Not take a city tour.... Not see whales that can be seen in places a whole lot closer to home.... If I just want a cruise I can get one for about half the price on the same cruise line about an hour away from where I live and not involve hotels$$$$ or air$$$$$! This is really the only glacier that we get on this cruise. Endicot you never get close to and more often than not, its fogged in or ice keeps you out. Big portion of Juneau income is derived from tourism and more specifically cruise based tourism. This isn't Juneau or even Alaska making this call. This is the fed that runs the national parks and forests.
  11. What about bears? That and the city are requesting that we don't use the local bus as residents depend on it for getting to work and tourists would overload the system.
  12. Spectacular... Thanks for all the effort putting it together!
  13. Just found out that Blue Bus and a couple others didn't get their forestry licenses renewed and aren't doing the shuttle to the glacier. Royal has two reasonable excursions that just quick photo op at the glacier with the emphasis on either the salmon hatchery or the glacier gardens instead. Other excursions too expensive for our budget. Fiancé and I want to go do the walk to Nugget falls and get some quality time at the glacier. Any idea of taxi costs? Other options? Matt suggested jeep rental earlier this year but that is way out of budget... Open and hopin for a solution.
  14. We're toting carry on... But the info is deeply appreciated. I did the app just a while ago.
  15. I flew em from Ft. Lauderdale years back for my first Alaska cruise. They were fantastic then and hoping they still are...
  16. This site is great, but we knew that. Y'all have been great about answering questions. Couple more. Taxi from SeaTac airport to basically near pikes place... How much? Then from there to ship? I've been told to use taxi vs uber as you can get dropped off closer to doors at terminal. Is this correct? We have day before cruise to kill. I was thinking Pikes, The Aquarium.... Any other ideas for that day? Coming back: We don't fly out til 9:35 PM so thats a long day as well. I heard there are lockers at Pikes Place to store bags? Called "Bounce"? Has anybody used? Do the lockers fit full sized carry on bags? Fiancé wants to do either some Japanese garden thing, or a "glass" garden , or both? Again , anybody done either or both? Any info is appreciated. I'm lost west of the Delaware river...
  17. Heading to Seattle for a Quantum of the Seas cruise to Alaska from Newark, New Jersey. Comparing airlines was like comparing apples and oranges. The non stops narrowed the field to United and Alaska Airlines. United marketing was pretty unrealistic as they showed some kind of base economy fare (that looked good ) that was basically useless. No carry on no sea selection, no anything. Alaska quotes that were higher included at least the basics. When the smoke cleared Alaska Airlines was the better deal and a better reputation for actually getting their scheduled flights off the ground and to their destinations. Jump forward: This is a 6 hour flight. Do they serve food? Can food be purchased? Looked at their site and couldn't find that info. I know on United you could pre order and buy like a turkey sandwich (for about what a mortgage payment might be )... We get in dinner time in Seattle but its late for us still on eastern time. My fiancé doesn't eat that late and push her buttons I'm subject to spending the night in the hotel corridor. ... Is where they gate in Seattle an easy walk to public transportation (Taxis)? Thats for me I know there is light rail but she wants taxi straight to hotel so she can get checked in and relax.
  18. Where I was supposed to get refunds they gave me fcc. Where I was supposed to get FCC I got refunded in tiny dribs and drabs installments so small I didn't even know they had been made. Had to go line by line on two years of statements on 4 cards to find that they did refund but at like $24- $135 at a time! Recently they refunded a FCC which i didn't request and they had applied elsewhere. They caught their mistake quick but instead of cancelling that transaction they drew funds from a cruise paid in full leaving me a balance that they didn't let me know I had to pay back. They had indeed sent me money and didn't "steal" anything but, If I hadn't caught it out of the corner of my eye They would have cancelled my cruise and kept thousands! I always pay in full when I book, so there would have been any reason to check my balance. I happened to see "Pay remaining balance" without "You don't have a balance" under it.
  19. My second cruise up there on a cruise. Did a fishing trip up there as well. For fiancé it will be her first. Did a much smaller ship last time. Looking forward to the bigger quantum...
  20. Glitch Of The Seas.... I was beginning to wonder if alone? I guess in good company from what I see.
  21. For me its a must to have something to look forward to on the horizon. I'm now finishing up a big pile of cruises that been great. More that I want to do but not booked yet. I'm nearing retirement but Fiancé still working with one in college and another near leaving the nest time. That and she's going to relocate to Florida with me. So, that sets up scheduling bumps in the road. Finance is another consideration with air fares insane. $1500 or so for NJ to Seattle for our next cruise then 300 a night for hotel give or take. For the Florida based cruises, no problem but the Trans Atlantic and Trans Pacific ones in the crystal ball are gonna sting. Still, before we get this next cruise in a few weeks, we will have more booked...
  22. I've run with it several times purchased at or near internet alone prices. I have yet to have a glitch with it and have made the most out of the benefits each time. I don't feel the need for full on suite type pampering but I enjoy walking past long lines and treated a little bit special. Fiancé is very much the fan of it as well. I should have reached Diamond status by now but C+A lost 14 years and 40 points apparently permanently as we never were able to locate most of the missing stuff. The key makes me feel better than how C+A treated me. I have been "Gold" twice, "Platinum" twice and will soon be "Emerald" for the second time. Til I reach "Diamond or above" I'll at least have the key to make me feel a little more than 3rd class steerage ballast...
  23. I've done the key multiple times. Each time has been an abbreviated version of the chops menu. I get the filet each time and gf gets the fish. I enjoyed all the lunches and the royal treatment and most of all getting past the lines that can and do get really long at boarding and leaving time.
  24. I read a review like this and I scratch my head. I have yet to see these horrid things??? I have yet to have a bad meal. The service I have seen is second to none. I haven't seen kids over running the Solarium though I was there and somebody was messaging on Facebook that they were. Few things I can see in the op as what I have experienced. On land "telephone" service is an abomination to anything resembling orderly or professional. I fix that issue by repeated calls until I find a rep who's well versed in whatever I need help with. I do agree that Costa Maya seems to be a "cause we need somewhere to go port. Its quickly remedied by a quick$8 taxi ride to the beach where you can enjoy food, shopping, massages and even buy really good quality hammocks. Roatan is perhaps my favorite stop. For $70 you can get a personal car and driver for pretty much the whole day. We did sloths and monkey tours. Snorkeled, went to two zip lines, had a guy carve us a wooden hummingbird, went to a rum factory, went to a chocolate factory, had lunch that had two tails. Good enough that we have booked to go again. $78 investment turns noting into life time of memories. On the spa , I concur. Destroyed my fiance's hair. Dyeing it black instead of highlighting her blond. $300 to fix when we got home. So that we agree on. Sorry if i seem insensitive but I can't see getting twisted over cupcakes (unless I had set it up for my grand kids). The OP here sure seems upset. A shame. Perhaps they should try staying in a hotel that doesn't offer any changes of scenery, doesn't feed you, doesn't entertain you, and costs twice what a cruise does? Might jostle things back into perspective?
