Hey Matt , why don't you record a review of the Jewel when you go on her on the 21st and then post it on the blog. If it's as good as your podcasts are it would be great to see.

Maybe you could add other TV shows from YouTube featuring Royal Caribbean ships here? There are several others on YouTube like the Smithsonian Channel Oasis documentary, one on Freedom and Independence, which I'm sure you're already aware of. ;)
Sure, if I run across them I will. Not all of the episodes I'm aware of are available on YouTube or other video services. Some of the older ones are but the Samantha Brown ones are available to purchase.
This particular episode was posted by the show so figured I'd share it.

Seven of our ten cruises have been in late November (Thanksgiving week) - don't know if it counts as hurricane season, but the worst weather we ever had was some showers. Oh, and some cold air when sailing from Baltimore.
Technically it does but November is pretty tame in terms of hurricanes

I ran across this syndicated TV show that showed off what a cruise is like on Adventure of the Seas doing a Southern Caribbean itinerary. It's a great mental escape to a Royal Caribbean cruise!

Keep in mind the 3 companies have been split in USA for a while. It's really a behind-the-scenes thing that should not affect what we, the guests, see.

If you're on Rhapsody you will love the redo -- great ship & crew. On boarding day check out specialty dinning deal -- Chops , Giovonis & Izumi package $59 per as I recall. If they still offer its a great deal.

I am an early booker! Have to plan vacations at least four months in advance to get the time off on the work schedule! May try it the other way around and get the time off and see what's available...might get a great deal!!
I relish in planning a cruise well in advance. To me, that's half the fun!

I think the majority of the cruising public are non-smokers. But when a drastic change takes place you have the few that cause an outcry which makes it seem like there is a larger number of people opposing the issue, when there really isn't.
Agreed, more people will ever complain about something than comment they agree. Human nature, I suppose.
Let's be honest, if there was a real financial disadvantage to Royal Caribbean for banning smoking, they wouldn't do it.

DANG! Lots and lots of people in the blog portion about this news item are NOT happy AT ALL about the ban. Wowsers. I really thought smoking was on the way out!
I really feel a vast majority of cruisers are okay with the change, but that's the nature of the blog: It's an open forum for sharing comments.

Another great podcast Matt. Hammocks were mentioned and they sound very inviting , are they on all Freedom Class Ships and are the hot tubs that hang over the side open 24hr.
I think they are open 24 hours, minus whenever they are being cleaned.

There's still smoking in land casinos so I'm not surprised smoking isn't banned onboard Royal Caribbean's casinos

How about a revolving crows nest. Many tall buildings have revolving restaurants so why not on a ship. It would be pretty cool to sit and have a cold one and watch the scenery come full circle especially in somewhere like Alaska or the Fjords.
Perhaps NorthStar is an attempt to deliver something like that

That being said, I'm thinking about surprising my other half. We're gonna go to FL for vacation in December. I think WHILE I'm in FL, I'm going to quickly book a last minute 4-night Bahamas cruise for a great deal. The worst that could happen? No good deals, and we're still in Florida. The best? It'll be a GREAT surprise! ;-)
It's not a bad idea. Truthfully, you should see deals in like 2-4 weeks prior to your vacation (unless you're going to be down there for like a month). So it's still last minute, but not literally the last minute :D

I balked at the price when it was announced. I'd love to see those parts of the ship but $340 for 2 people just isn't worth it to me.
