  1. Oh geez where to get started lol. If rooms count I'd have to go with the royal loft suites. While the pictures of the lofts on the Oasis class look spectacular, these new Royal lofts on the Quantum class just look absolutely epic! Its a tough call what with how neat the new solarium looks though.

Rooms do count and I don't think you're wrong about those Royal Loft Suites. They look stunning.

  3. Thanks everyone!  I've finally recovered from the long 16 hour drive home and wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful time!!  Royal Caribbean far exceeded any expectations I had!!  The service was amazing!  We had the best waiter and assistant waiter I've ever had on any cruise!  The kids loved adventure ocean and the teen clubs.  All three kids said they preferred this RC cruise over our Disney cruises.

Our first Royal Caribbean cruise was definitely not our last!

Wonderful to hear! Now the question is when is your next cruise :D

  5. Sorry guys this is true

Limo/towncar companies are not allowed to bring passengers inside the

gates of the terminal until 11am HOWEVER they can drop you outside the fence and

you can walk up to the ship. BUT I have been held at the fence as well before 11am.

Rule of the Port Authority here in Canaveral to avoid congestion with those coming

    off the ship.

Ah, that sounds like it's a limo/taxi rule about drop offs, not a rule that you cannot go to the terminal after 10am

  6. Essentially AmEx will allow you more time to pay off the cruise. This is from AmEx's website:

    Extended Payments-How It Works

A flexible payment section on your statement
Purchases of $200 or more are automatically itemized in a separate section of your monthly statement. You decide whether you want to pay the charges in full, pay the minimum due or anything in between. Each month, you must pay the minimum due on your Extended Payment Option plus the pay-in-full portion of your bill.

Pay finance charges on only a portion of your bill
With the Extended Payment Option, you won’t pay any finance charges on your purchases under $200 as long as you continue to pay them in full.

So basically if you know you aren't going to be able to pay the amount in full it will likely save you some money on finance charges. Ordinarily they use they use the "Average Daily Balance" method of calculating the finance charges, which is the sum of your credit card balance each day in the billing cycle divided by the number of days in that billing cycle. With extended payments you only pay on the unpaid balance as opposed to the average daily balance.
  7. RC has always done a health questionnaire and will continue to do so.

Customs does its own screening even before people come to the USA.  I don't mean to profile but odds are someone with Ebola would be coming from West Africa and Customs is already engaged in screening for that.

I'd be more worried about catching the flu or a stomach bug as the odds are FAR more likely to get those than Ebola on a cruise.

  8. Welcome!

What time does the port open?  If I want to get there early, what time should I arrive?  We will be parking at the port. Also, we booked through AAA so they have VIP check-in (whatever that means)

You should be able to get in by 10am certainly.  That was my plan of action before fog delayed Navigator's arrival when I cruised in February.  Keep in mind that is a very realistic delay you can run into that time of the year.

How soon can I book specialty restaurants?  I want to make reservations but it will not let me do it online and wasn't sure if there was a time frame like 120 days before or 90 days.

As soon as the system will let you.  There is no window that is standard.  Sometimes it's well in advance (months to years) and other times it's less than 45 days.  Best advice is to keep checking the site periodically.

Thoughts on the tethering process at Grand Canyman?  I heard it is very slow and my husband is worried about wasting time and not having enough time to explore.

I've tendered from Grand Cayman a few times.  It's slow but the key is to get out early.  If you wake up at 10am and roll out to the tendering station thereafter you will hit prime time rush.  Try to get out early to beat the crowd.

In Belize, we arrived well before the tenders began and were on the first boat out. That's probably overkill for Grand Cayman as the lines there have never been that bad in my experience.  Early bird gets the worm!

In terms of time to explore, I'd say you should plan on spending the day on the island.  Going back for lunch and then back to the island would probably take up too much time in commuting.

Recommend excursions for Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Falmouth Jamaica.  We are not getting off the ship in all three so what two do you suggest?  We were thinking Playa Mia or Mr. Sanchos for Cozumel booked on our own.  Not sure about Jamaica or Grand Cayman.  We aren't huge adventurers...more of a relax on the beach and possibly a little snorkeling for the husband.

I love exploring Cozumel on foot in the city and doing shopping and EATING but I've also had a good time at beaches like Paradise Beach.  I've heard nothing but good things about Mr. Sanchos

For Falmouth, I recommend the all inclusive Hilton Rose: http://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2011/09/15/excursion-focus-hilton-rose-hall-resort-spa-day-pass

Grand Cayman, get to shore, find a taxi and ask to go to 7 mile beach.  It's the place to be, no question about it.
