letscruise
This is our first cruise where we'll have additional family on the trip, including first time cruisers! My hope is they have a great week of cruising and enjoy it as much as we do. December isn't a time of year we've ever cruised before, so getting home on Christmas Eve will bring some logistical challenges, for sure. I guess that adds motivation to finish shopping and wrapping extra early!!

letscruise
How nice! I'm sure you will have a great time and if you found this site, you will find great information for new cruisers. Let me know if you have any questions, I was beginning to think we'd be cruising alone since no one had responded!
Amber F
I have a party of 8 on this sailing! We are spending a few days in NYC prior to embarkation to see all the Christmas sights. It will be my niece and nephew’s first time flying and first ever cruise! letscruise and WAAAYTOOO
Amber F
@letscruise, Any word if our itinerary has been changed due to the propulsion issues Anthem is currently experiencing? I want to purchase shore excursions via the Cruise Planner, but not if Nassau is going to be skipped. If we need to skip a port, I hope it’s Cape Canaveral! I hadn't seen anything on this issue, but did do a search of this site and see it now. We don't have any excursions booked at PC or Nassau, but agree skipping PC is fine with us. Our last 2 cruises were from there, so we are more than familiar with that port. We've never been to Nassau, but will just get off the ship and walk around. If you purchase an excursion on the cruise planner and they cancel that port, I'm certain Royal would credit you the charge. Check in is this week! It's going to be here before we know it! BrianB
I’m on this cruise also. I’m onboard the Anthem now and the Chief Engineer said the engine overhaul procedure will be completed by the end of November. Beginning on the Dec 3 sailing, we should be back on our original itineraries. Fingers crossed. WAAAYTOOO

Would I do this transaction at the cashier? Hi, Thank you in advance. Only go over to the casino if it does temp you to gamble. Personally, I am not a big time player. I started collecting casino chip during one of my business trip as a memento, then I realised there are others who collect them as well. I normally only collect chips at places that I visit, accept Royal Caribbean Casino chips. My first Royal Caribbean chip is from the Quantum Of the Seas. Royal Caribbean started to replace the unique chips with generic chips. So I started to buy them online before they all get replaced. I collect them provided the condition is still reasonably good. So I often get a few to choose the better ones. Yes, you can ask the cashier for better condition chips. However, some will tell you to cash in for the chips at any of the table. Some of the casino staffs are helpful, while there are others who can be inpatient. So the rude ones may sometime spoil your mood, so let them affect you. It affect me in my first few trip. You are allow to change for the chips at any of the table without betting. Normally I will tell them I want to keep for memento, some will be helpful to get me the better condition chips. Due to the above reason, I normally get a few to choose the best for my collection. If possible, can you get me 2 of the $5 and 2 or 5 of the $1 for ease of exchanging. Reference to the photo of my collection, I bought the Anthem of the seas online, but the blue seem to be a bit faded compare to my Quantum chip, so I will ask for the $1 as well, but priority is the $5 which i am still missing. Finally, hope you have a wonderful Christmas trip. I think it is going to be a perfect experience for you and your family. Do not worry about the chips, only help if it does not disrupt your program. ‘Regards,

Newhouse of the Seas
The weather has been intense so far on Anthem. Were originally scheduled to arrive in Port Canaveral (PC) tomorrow (Tuesday) @ +/- 12 PM. They made an announcement this afternoon that we won't arrive there until +/- 6 PM & will only be there long enough to restock provisions. Accordingly, no passengers will be permitted to exit the ship & all shore excursions in PC were cancelled. WAAAYTOOO
BrianB
@PPPJJ-GCVAB Weather overnight Sunday night was ‘interesting’. Even for me. I'm in a balcony cabin on deck eight forward. Lively seas…very high winds. Started getting worse around ten at night. Lots of movement. Wind kept blowing through the seal of the balcony door…sounding like a train whistle. Lots of huge bangs as we hit the swells…sometimes felt like we were running over speed bumps. Bouts of heavy wind blown rain, combined with sea spray occasionally hitting my balcony door. Lucky none came through the seal. Managed to save my coffee service tray as it slid across the table. Unable to sleep due to getting shoved around and the intermittent train whistle. Forgot to clear my toiletries from the counter top in the bathroom so had to go clean them up after they bounced around the bathroom floor. Finally started to ease around three in the morning. Still motion during the day Monday…just more typical of a winter sailing from NJ. I feel really bad for those suffering from seasickness….and I hope those on their first cruise don’t decide it’s a ‘one and done’. Capt. Toni reported at the tier event on Monday that the top wind Sunday night was in excess of 64mph. Some of the shops had displays knocked over and the Solarium Bistro suffered some minimal scattering of items. Probably similar issues aft in the Windjammer and maybe the crew mess. I also felt really bad for the cabin attendants. After a busy and tiring turnaround day on Sunday…I spoke to some who said they couldn’t sleep due to the motion. Many were sick. When they tried to service the cabins Monday morning, many passengers slept in due to being unable to sleep during the storm. This caused them to have to extend their work day. A very difficult time for them…but they always do their best. All in all…it was an exciting five hours or so overnight. But, I knew we were safe and in good hands…on a ship that was built to handle much worse. If I had to decide whether I would do it again under the same circumstances…absolutely. For me it was really no big deal. Been in worse. But, again…I feel really bad for those who were sick and hope that this experience doesn’t turn them away from cruising in the future. That would be a shame. WAAAYTOOO and PPPJJ-GCVAB 1

That would be a shame. Wow…that’s a crazy night! Yes…that could definitely be a “thanks but no thanks again” for a first timer! Never really thought about how the crew handle the rough seas but how sad those first couple of days went for them! That would mean a huge tip coming for my attendant if I was on that sailing! Glad it didn’t really affect you personally. I’m also a non-motion sick kind of person. However…my husband…different story! Had we been on this sailing…he would absolutely NEVER try another cruise again. Which would be horrible as we have 2 pretty decent ones booked, especially our TransAtlantic…which I am already placing my prayers to please provide as smooth of a cruise as possible crossing the Atlantic! Thanks for sharing! BrianB
