Chewie
We are going on Harmony in June. My 17-year old is taking his 16-year old friend. We all have passports, but do we need any additional documentation to travel abroad with a child who is not related to us?
Keanoknick
I believe you would need a release from the parents, giving you permission to take him out of the country. Would be a good idea to also get a Medical release just in case.
FireFishII
Yes, you will need a release from BOTH parents, even if they are divorce. These releases must be notarized. Getting a medical release like @Keanoknickrecommended is great advice. You can go to this site for a sample of the form: https://www.us-passport-service-guide.com/minor-travel-consent-form.html
ZBrady
More specifically, from the RC website: Quote Adults who are not the parent or legal guardian of a minor traveling with them must present an original, notarized letter signed by the child's parent(s) authorizing the adult to take the child on the specific cruise, supervise the child, and allow emergency medical treatment to be administered, if needed. This is necessary even when the adult traveling is part of the child’s extended family (i.e. aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc). To make it easy for you, we have a sample letter you can use. The letter can be downloaded here. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/what-if-i-am-traveling-with-a-minor-and-i-am-not-their-parent-legal-guardian Neesa, FireFishII and DoomSlayer

FireFishII
2 hours ago, ZBrady said: More specifically, from the RC website: https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/what-if-i-am-traveling-with-a-minor-and-i-am-not-their-parent-legal-guardian The forms are very similar. The biggest difference is the US Passport form has a space for BOTH parents. I would recommend having both forms filled out, especially if you will be flying to the port.
