We are taking our grown children on Freedom of the Seas (Bahamas) in June, and we just happened to stumble across this rule that your passport supposedly needs to be good for 6 month after your travel dates. One person in our group has their passport expiring in August. So is this a real concern we need to have? We sail in less than 8 weeks, so getting a new passport isn't realistic at this time, right? Does she need to bring ID and birth certificate at this point? Other options?

It only matters if the country that you are visiting requires it to be within the 6 months. The is a common requirement in Europe, but not the Caribbean. I would bring a driver license and birth certificate just to he on the safe side,  but you should be ok.
