Melbae9
Hello Friends, I have 2 cruises booked on the Adventure of the Seas this year!! One pre and one post refurb! Southern Caribbean x 2!! We will manage to only hit St. Kitts twice, otherwise we will hit all new islands! I have read Matt's blogs in regards to traveling from San Juan, but I was wondering if anyone else had some hot tips or must do's in the Southern Caribbean. We will be at St. Thomas and St. Maarten (have been to both of them several times), then St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Antigua, Barbados, and Curacao. Anyone have a must do excursion or tour? We usually book our own non-RCL tours, but are certainly open to suggestions! Thanks! Mel!

Jerel
I'd look into the Cosol tours (I think that's right) for St Lucia. They take you to many fun areas, really had a great time. Very affordable at around 70 dollars, free rum drinks and beer too. Many good things said online about the tour, lunch was better than they say IMO. One thing I like to warn people about with these 'many stop' cruises. You really need to plan in some rest, some beach days here and there. We did 5 islands in 7 days and by the end of it we were too tired to do anything, keep in mind even the ship has lots of things to do on it. I guess all I'm saying is its wise not to over plan. Melbae9
Thanks Everyone! And thanks for the reminder Jerel, have no fear though, we are excellent beach loungers! Matt
WAAAYTOOO
I agree with Jerel about the port-intensive southern Caribbean itineraries, When we were new to cruising, we thought, "the more stops the better !". Now we don't think so. I'm definitely in the "if you've seen one Caribbean island you've seen them all" category by this point. Being night owls (and generally closing down the casino) and getting up at the crack of dawn to get off a another port do not compliment one another. We rarely get off the ship anymore unless we're going to a new port, which is less and less common these days, Honestly, I would be happy with 2 ports of call in a 7 day itinerary. Any more than that and it's cramping my gambling style. LOL
bcarney
Whatever you do, in St. Lucia go see the Pitons. Skipping that is like going to Paris and skipping the Eiffel Tower.
DocLC
I'm in agreement with you WaaayTooo. I could even go without any port days. I've even been guilty of going on short cruises and never stepping off the ship in port. My wife, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. We took a 2 night cruise to nowhere on Disney followed by a 7 day cruise and she had to get off on turnaround day just to have some time off the ship. Thus, a transatlantic is out of the question and this is the reason why she picked our Baltic cruise this summer: 13 nights with 12 of them spent in port. I'm already exhausted thinking about it. Matt
Whatever you do, in St. Lucia go see the Pitons. Skipping that is like going to Paris and skipping the Eiffel Tower. Sadly, I skipped the Pitons. We skipped it because a taxi cost was very expensive and we had young children and a long car ride. I regret not seeing them, but I agree it's the attraction there. bcarney
Sadly, I skipped the Pitons. We skipped it because a taxi cost was very expensive and we had young children and a long car ride. I regret not seeing them, but I agree it's the attraction there. We did an excursion to them with kids, but they weren't as young as yours were. Rather than a taxi, you could take a boat-based excursion there (faster, and can be cheaper since gas is so expensive there) - it's what we did with the kids: spencerambrose.com/island-tours/jalousie-beach-break/ For a little more money, one can do a Land & Sea trip and see the island's gorgeous interior (with some great places to take photos of both the ship and the Pitons): http://spencerambrose.com/island-tours/spencers-land-and-sea-adventure1/ Full disclosure: I'm a very, very happy customer of Spencer Ambrose. I've done nearly all of his tours, and when I'm in St. Lucia he is the first guy I look up. I highly recommend his services.
