amejiajr8 Posted September 25, 2015 Report Share Posted September 25, 2015 Any suggestions on cruising with a parent? My mom has decided she would like to come along on our next family cruise. It's been over 15 years or more since I have traveled with my mom and have my travel habits pretty nailed down from knowing when I want to arrive to the airport and when I want to get to the boat...etc. I don't want her to feel she has to hang out with my wife and I and my girls all the time. Don't get me wrong I think it's cool my mom finally will go on a family trip with us but I just wanted to make sure the vacation still feels like a vacation. Jerel Posted September 25, 2015 Report Share Posted September 25, 2015 I took my dad on a cruise and it worked out great, I was a bit worried but everything was fine. The good thing about cruises is there's plenty to do, and if you want to find each other you can. I think it's pretty easy for her to keep entertained on her own, maybe you can make plans to meet up at shows to spend time together. For us we met up at the MDR and discussed plans over dinner, maybe leave messages on the phone, other than that it was everyone for themselves. We kept it pretty low key and simply said when we were eating and what we were planning to do and we let her make the call on whether she wanted to join us or not. A couple of times she did, other times she opted to stay on the ship, and a third time she opted to go on a tour by herself that didn't interest the rest of us. What I love about cruising is that there is something that caters to everyone. I think she even spent one day just reading in the cabin just because she could. AGSLC5 Posted September 26, 2015 Report Share Posted September 26, 2015 for the past 3 years one of the cruises I have taken has been a family cruise with my fiancé's family over Christmas break. It works out well. We all do our own thing during the day and at night we all eat dinner together and then see a show. After the show we all go our separate ways again and do what we like. For me that means Casino! It has been great and I am looking forward to my December trip this year too. The only down part is this year it is not on Royal. I tried but I sadly got out voted.
