  1. I've done a true winter cruise once. It was in January 2011 and we sailed on a quick 3-night cruise on Majesty of the Seas out of Miami. Although it was definitely a nice treat to escape the winter weather, we did this to bump ourselves to Platinum right before they changed from cruise credits to cruise points.

This year, for the fourth year in a row, we have our technically-it's-still-winter spring break cruise in mid-March. Last year, we arrived back home to Pittsburgh after the cruise to find ourselves in the middle of a snowstorm. That was a very unpleasant shock to the system, and not a fun drive home from the airport.

I feel your pain. It's bad enough when a vacation is over, but to have to shovel snow as soon as you get back stinks...

Years ago I insisted on wearing shorts as we traveled from the Caribbean back to Connecticut. The jet way was shockingly cold, if I remember correctly. But I stretched that vacation feel for a few more hours.

  2. Moncton, I disagree. If you're a beer drinker, even at the common $4.75-5.25 for a beer, you'd have to drink 10 beers each and every day to approach the package cost. I've batted this around with Matt before. I got the premium package and will never do that again. There's no way my wife and I could go through $770 worth of drinks in 7 days. LOL. It actually sounds silly to say it.

Heh... not naming any names, but for some people 10 beers on a vacation is just a good start....  ;-)

  3. Hi! I'm sailing with Enchantment of the Seas in March with a group of 72 other people. I organized the group, have everyone paid and ready to go and was just told i get a $1020 credit. I need suggestions on what to do with my credit. I was thinking upgrading my room, but I don't know how simple that is. Also purchasing myself a drink package...but I also want to be fair to the rest of the group. Suggestions??

    Cheers!

That, sir, is a nice "problem" to have! I don't believe you can take your OBC with you once you disembark, so don't worry too much about spending wisely...

  4. I booked to go on Allure last week for one week in September.I went to my usual travel who we have been using for 15 years.she first phoned Royal for us to get a price from them I couldn't believe how much they wanted. For a week with just flights which they couldn't say if they were direct or indirect. They wanted for 3 of us in a junior suite deck 8 midship 7 grand. We said thankyou but no thankyou. My agent phoned someone else and got a great price.A 4* hotel pre cruise plus one night post cruise.Direct flights all transfers included and gratuities deck 8 midship junior suite for just over 4 grand. We didn't take the all inclusive as we didn't need the drinks package.I couldn't believe how much cheaper we got the cruise for.

Wow... I'm new to shopping for cruises, who gave that package?

  5. I'd love to board a ship on the east coast of the US, schmaybe Port Liberty, do a southern Caribbean trip, transit Panama Canal, Galapagos, then Hawaii, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, then swing north with ports of call in south east asia, Japan, Korea, China, head east for an Alaskan itinerary, then south along west coast of north america. Disembark in LA, then leisurely train ride on the Sunset Limited to New Orleans... to possibly board another RC cruise.

But I haven't really thought this through...

  6. Yes, I was very lucky this year to say the least.....especially considering how far I have to travel to get there and the cost.

I love the boat, I like the itenary, prices are usually good...and the crew is alot of fun. Not to mention the people I meet on board.

I am a little worried that my next cruise maynot be as enjoyable on the Brillance of the Seas to Cozumel, but going with an open mind!

I hope you find Brilliance as enjoyable as Enchantment

  7. I book everything on my own. I find that I know more about the deals/prices/details from my own research than the TA's do. I have booked directly with RCI, but have booked with 3rd party sites as well when they had promotions or incentives and have had no issues so far!

Before the internet, i could see the value of a TA. Now, i really dont. Maybe I just have'nt been lucky enough to get a better deal cause I used a TA, or had a need to make major changes or had a problem while on vacation and needed a TA.

Off topic - but looking at your signature, it would appear that you really like Enchantment of the Seas! 3 times in one year? I'm jealous!

  8. We have just completed a 33 night Circumnavigation of Australia that took in the NZ South Islands and Sounds as well as Bali... So we are saving up our vacation time again to head to the USA in 2016 and do an Alaskan Cruise, a cruise on Quantum out of New York and then cruise back to Sydney from Hawaii. It will be our biggest adventure yet.

    That is astonishingly awesome.
