  1. Good to know. We do plan on renting a car post cruise because we won't fly back until the next day and we MUST go to see Miami-Homestead Speedway as one of my sons (and, myself as well) are obsessed with NASCAR. Probably won't make it to a race here, but it's worth a stop to see at least. And we'll want the freedom to visit the area as well. But I think we'll do Uber on the front end to make it easier with the family.
  2. Thanks to both of you. My Uber experience is fairly limited and wasn't sure if drivers were reluctant to to travel from one end to the city to the other like that.
  3. So, need to tap the collective wisdom of those in the Miami / Fort Lauderdale area. We are flying into FLL for our cruise in February because it is much cheaper than MIA. But, we are sailing on the newly AMP'ed Navigator out of POM the next day. Car rental for a one way is about $60 (and booked). Priced out Uber using their estimator and it's about $20 to our hotel (just far enough away to not offer a shuttle, but MUCH cheaper) and then another $40-$50 to POM the next day. Uber would be a lot easier as we wouldn't need to deal with returning the car to MIA and taking the shuttle out to the port. But, my concern is finding an uber that would take us from FLL area to POM (looks like a bit of a haul). Anyone with any experience in using Uber/Lyft in this area? Would this be a tough ride to find? I'm ok with using the rental, just looking to make things easier on embarkation day with my two boys, while trying to save some cash for our next UDP. Thanks!

    Holidays

Wishing you all a white, sandy beach Christmas and a joyous new year!
  5. (1) If you are staying on Disney property and don't plan to leave their property while there, you don't really need a car. We've used Uber the few times where Disney Transportation is too time intensive. (2) We have multiple times done a one-way rental from Orlando to the port and back again. Alamo and National both have a free shuttle (others do as well, those are just who we use) and there are no one way penalties in Florida. No way would I pay to park a rental for the length of the cruise.
  6. I just did this for my upcoming cruise in February. If I recall, Priceline said it would be one of these four hotels and then the extension narrowed it down to 2, one of which is what it ended up being. So, fairly accurate.
  7. Ah, that makes sense. Seems that is the way with a lot of companies.
  8. Jim, I feel your pain. We were about 9 months out when they cancelled our cruise this past January. I was mad enough I took that cruise to NCL. To be honest, we are only giving RC another shot because they had a great deal for when we wanted to sail. I know this won't matter a hill of beans, but this is one area that baffles me on RC - especially with everyone who says they have great customer service.
  9. Thanks everyone! As a newcomer to RC, I'm trying to catch up on what's a feature and what's not on the different class of ships. I just didn't want to miss something. Very much looking forward to our sail on the new Navigator. ?
  10. OK - we are set to sail on the AMP'ed Navigator on her first voyage after dry dock in February. Since we are less than 90 days out, I did all the online check in information. I know that some features are ship and/or terminal specific, but I didn't see a spot to take a picture or scan our passports or such. Is this option just not available to us for this sailing or is it something that becomes available closer to departure date? Doesn't matter, but with two 9 year old boys (and a dad who acts like one sometimes), streamlining check in would be great. Thanks!
  11. As someone who is anticipating his first, RC cruise in a couple of months, thanks for writing these up! Helped me to see the differences between some of the lines.
  12. This is the exact wording from an email from RC on a cruise we were scheduled on that was cancelled: We hadn't purchased airfare yet (thankfully), but the way I read it is they will only cover fees related to changes, not reimbursement of the actual airfare.
  13. I found the pizza on the NCL Epic a year ago to be nearly inedible. I think the only pizza that was worse was a room service pizza we got once at Port Orleans French Quarter at Walt Disney World. Looking forward to some edible pizza on our first RC cruise in a couple of months. ?
  14. February 24, 2019 on the Navigator!
  15. Thanks, this was not something we experienced on other lines, so I was skeptical on what he was telling me (hopefully he won't come here and see me say that. ) ?
  16. OK - another question. On our upcoming cruise, we plan to use the service where the kids club staff come and take your kids part way through dinner so you can enjoy some peace and quiet. ? My question is since my boys will go there, will we get any gruff if they wear shorts so they will be comfortable playing later or should we make other plans? Thanks!
  17. OK, so I don't want to start a fight about gratuities (because it seems that few things can start a fight like this topic, politics and religion!). We are preparing for our first cruise on RC this upcoming February after 3 DCL and 1 NCL cruises. I had lunch with a friend of mine who has been on two RC cruises in the last 18 months or so and said he was surprised that he had the automatic gratuities added and then the cruise staff pushed enevelopes for extra tips. Now, we tip well and I usually tip "extra" (my choice, you do what you want). I just wonder if this is normal or if my friend misunderstood (only his 2nd crusie). Thanks!
  18. We seldom do an excursion in every port. We usually find one or two over the cruise and do those. On our upcoming cruise, we're only stopping at Nassau and Labadee so we won't do any excursions (stay on the boat in Nassau and do the beach at Labadee). Otherwise, it's fun to stay on the ship and enjoy all that you can do on her.
  19. Thanks for clarifying and I agree. You are charged at check out the gratuity but the initial price in your Cruise Planner does not include the 18%. And yes, I wish that they were a little more "transparent" on the pricing of, well, everything. It would save a lot of confusion when they do offer a sale on a product.
  20. Actually, the drink packages also include 18% gratuities up front, including the soda package we just bought for our boys for our upcoming cruise.
  21. We did a DCL Alaska cruise about 6 1/2 years ago with our son who is now 9 - so he was a few months shy of three when we went. He did everything we did, although we did avail ourselves of the nursery a few times so we could have some grown up time. He went on the train in Skagway, rode around Juneau with us and then stayed on the ship in the Nursery for Ketchican. It all depends on what you want to do. I would have zero reservations in taking along your toddler.
