The person said only 2 Quantum for the next couple of seasons and they will assess it then. I don’t know if an oasis can get into Port Kembla but the dock is long enough and there’s LNG there . That’s about the only hope we have ,maybe a LNG ship split between Sydney and Singapore.

I have been chatting with someone very senior from Royal Caribbean Sydney just recently.(who asked to not to use their name) I asked about a second ship for Sydney next season and the response was quite shocking. They said because of carbon emissions Royal won’t have a third ship in Australia. Royal has to reduce its emissions as a company as a whole and because itineraries in Australia have long distances and high fuel burns. Australia is is a unattractive market. Brillance ,being an older ship will go back to the U.S and do short runs with more port days .as to keep emissions down. Unless there’s a newer fuel source like biofuel or a gas in Australia,there’s no plans for more ships. So that doesn’t sound good for us and especially Lelepa.

Over on CC there’s a hint, Anthem might go to Los Angeles after its Alaska deployment. In the schedules to be released, it’s included in Caribbean / L.A . If that’s the case we might get Navigator ?

I think it has less public space because of the size of the L.N.G. fuel tanks.

I can’t see the market for a private island either. Not in the form Royal was advertising. 3-5 ships serving it for 6 months of the year doesn’t warrant the money to me.

Kembla has a birth of 360 meters !!! and L.N.G. I was reading somewhere ,Royal Australia wants Lelepa ,3-4 ships including a year round ship for the 25-26 season. That sounds pretty ambitious to me ,someone has been drinking to much coffee. How about a third ship for next season ,a voyager class would be good thought when they come down from their caffeine .

I found an article on Port Kembla as it looks like it’s the favourite for Sydney’s second cruise terminal. I don’t know if it would be done but if Royal wanted to speed up and cut costs to develop the Discovery class. They could just modify Celebrity Edge class . A water slide ,water park and put the crown and anchor on the side.

Probably just a con job but it’s interesting how it can run on different fuels. I believe Ammonia can be injected straight into the combustion chamber but has to have some fuel oil to help it combust. A lot more versatile than L.N.G

It would probably take that long to develop port Kembla. I don’t actually know if the channel and turning bay would take a Oassis. Kembla has an excellent rail which could go from Central to the terminal in about a hour. And the area around Wollongong is quite nice,I suppose it’s hard to compete with Brisbanes muddy river and the sewage plant next door. Not to mention no public transport .

We try to upstage Brisbane,you though there cruise terminal is a mess just wait for port Kembla.

I don’t know if an oasis would get into Kembla, I’ll have to do some homework. And you are right about the extra hour by train being acceptable. There’s plenty of other ports that are just as inconvenient. Ports NSW says Kembla has a birth of 360 meters,so it’s looking interesting. Oasis is around that.

What cruise in November?

It will be good to have something different to Quantum class and it’s pretty rare for Royal to visit Kangaroo island. Im in cabin 4585 ,I’m travelling solo and if anyone one wants a drink ,my cabins just outside the R bar .

I’ve been following Vanuatu media and not a word of Lelepa. I even emailed the local paper and they haven’t heard anything. We might have a new cruise terminal for Sydney ,not the most desirable as it’s about a hour or more from Sydney. From what I understand hydrogen will be stored in the form of ammonia. The same as you clean your bathroom,a liquid. Very safe to handle and transport. They add a extra molecule to hydrogen,I think it’s nitrogen to make ammonia and strip it away before it’s used. Something like that .

One thing to think about is what kind of fuel would a smaller ship use ? If Royal was going to go to the expense of developing a new class of ship ,for service in 30 years time,it wouldn’t be a ship that burns dirty oil . At the moment the cleanest fuel is LNG and from what I believe it takes up a lot of room to store it . A smaller ship that runs on LNG would be down on cabin space and paying passengers. So I don’t think it would be economical. Wasn’t Icon originally supposed to have a hydrogen fuel cell ? That didn’t seem to happen ,maybe it might with Discovery class.
