Also, these are HSA approved, so if you have an HSA and want to use to pay for them, that’s an option. 🙂

It's been several years, but 4 of us went on a cruise from Dec 27 to Jan 3.   NYE on the ship was terrific.   We did tuxedos and went completely formal -- it was a blast.   I loved it

If it's an actual aft-facing cabin then no way would I give that up!

Mid ship is great for less movement, less seasickness. Aft balconies are usually spacious, though you may hear some engine hum at night. This doesn't ever bother us and instead lulls us to sleep.

Dress is up to you, your cruise will have a " dress to impress" night. That can be very formal if you like, or festive and less formal (slacks/button down, short cocktail dress).
Most specialty restaurants will offer a set holiday menu at a certain price. Not usually included in UDP plan.

I watched bits and pieces of this episode and it made me wonder what  exactly would she have wanted to happen? To let her just go back on the ship and pretend that she didn’t test positive?

I think Royal Caribbean did the responsible thing. Maybe it did get a little fumbled along the way (if what the person reported was indeed true) but at the end of day, this person did test positive and RC had no other choice but to discharge her from the ship (and as far as I can tell from the video, the crew did so with politeness and respect).
Call me crazy but if I tested positive for Covid, my first thought would be of the health and safety of me, my family, and my friends and not “Royal Caribbean is out to get me!! Let me turn on Facebook live”
