  1. 588,569 dead Americans is hysteria? come on man. Do your part so we can all be safe. Unless you have a medical condition that prevents getting the vaccine, get it so we can all be safe. If you have a medical condition that prevents getting the vaccine, then you may want to talk to your doctor before you book a cruise, a flight or a vacation to any congested resort. Just saying
  2. You guys down under did it right because you followed the science. We followed an idiot who knew more than the doctors and the scientists - NOT. I have stayed home and avoided crowds, worn a mask, and am now fully vaccinated. I followed the science and stayed healthy.
  3. Sorry - we are all in this together. If that person is sick with a variant of COVID-19, you may or may not get sick. You also could be asymptomatic and spread it. We won't be safe until we have hear immunity. We most likely will need a booster shot. Now if that person who gets sick is your neighbor, is that ok?
  4. The cruise line could say no vaccine - you can wave from the dock. Can't go as other countries are requiring the vaccine. If you refuse to get the vaccine - stay home, do not go out to the store, do not go to ball games or concerts, do not infect others. I am tired of those people who think they know more than doctors and scientists. 588,569 Americans are dead because of these idiots.
  5. She should talk to both her OBGYN and a specialist in infectious disease. This is a question for people must smarter than any of us.
  6. The vaccine may or may not be 100% effective against all of the variants. The science is saying, if you get 1 of the variants, you may get sick but not die. You can also spread it to others even though you are asymptomatic. We will most likely need a booster shot (like the annual flue vaccine) to ward against the variants. The more people who refuse to get the vaccine or fail to go back for their 2nd vaccine, the longer this will be with us. Your choice, wear a mask at the grocery store and in crowds, or be part of continued spread. We do not have heard immunity yet because people are refusing to get vaccinated, forgetting to get the 2nd shot, and refusing to wear masks in crowds. There were 56,604 cases yesterday and 954 families last a loved one. Your choice.
  7. You are the problem. If we do not wear masks and get vaccinated, we will have more spikes and end of like India. This is real. 588,569 Americans are dead because of your lack or respect for others. Unless you have a medical degree plus PhD, you do not have the knowledge to question the science. These people are smart, really smart. Wear a mask. Get a vaccine or we will be living like this for years.
  8. If you chose not to be vaccinated, then do not go on the cruise, do not fly on a plane, do not go out to restaurants, do not go to the office. You are not welcome around those of us who are concerned with staying healthy. There is a public health reason why schools require students to be vaccinated. These illnesses spread and can kill people. COVID-19 is still a global pandemic. Look at India. If you don't want to get the vaccine. Your choice. Just stay home.
  9. I understand that this forum may not know the answers to these questions. But does cruise industry have an obligation to contract with these businesses to grow the economy. Most large businesses either contract directly with minority/women owned business or include it in their bid requirements that contractors use subcontractors that meet these requirements. Many local governments require this to use government funded or owned facilities. Florida is different. My guess is their words before Congress and the administration would carry more weight if they could say these local businesses are impacted. Matt - I think a story highlighting the human impact on these businesses would be interesting for us all.
  10. How much money (either $ or %) is contracted with minority or women owned small businesses for restocking the ships on turnaround day? The amount of money spent in Florida ports to replenish the ships must be huge. Is any of the money contracted with these businesses? If not, what will Royal Caribbean and the other cruise lines commit to to grow the local economy. I'm 100% confident this would go a long way in reopening sailing.
  11. If one has the cash to do only 1 glacier viewing plane excursion, would you do a flight in Denali, Kenai Forjds NP, or Mendenhall Glacier? The entire trip will cost an arm and a leg. We will have to pick and choose. Which flight would you pick and why?
  12. If one has the cash to do only 1 glacier viewing plane excursion, would you do a flight in Denali, Kenai Forjds NP, or Mendenhall Glacier? The entire trip will cost an arm and a leg. We will have to pick and choose. Which flight would you pick and why?
  13. Did the scheduled maintenance happen during the shutdown in 2020 in Singapore? Or has it been delayed? Has any upgrades been done during the shutdown while out at sea to prepare for the new COVID protocols?
  14. happy Sunday Morning. My DD1 is susceptible to sea sickness. She got seasick on the Cape May-Lewis ferry across the lower Delaware Bay has convinced herself that she will get seasick on a cruise. The route for the cruise from Seward to Vancouver goes in the open ocean on day 2. Most of the rest of the trip is in protected waters. Is that correct? On day 2, is the ship able to minimize the motion with the stabilizers? Thanks
  15. We (I) want to go southbound. The information from @twangsteris spectacular. A great read for anyone. We will do Denall before on our own. the itinerary has changed to add a brief, very brief, stop in Haines - 7:00 to 11:00. This does not appear to be enough time to do anything. Can anyone give any insight into why and what to do at this time of day in Haines.
  16. The 1st step was approval of the vaccine. Now we need as a country and world to distribute it and get it into our arms. The federal government's goal was 20M doses administered by year end. As of today 2.1M have been administered or 0.6% of the population. At this rate it will take years. As a country we are at 10% of the YE goal. A score of 10% on any exam in school is an F. A CEO of a public company would be fired for achieving 10% of the key financial goals. The new administration is taking a different approach. Instead of leaving the logistics to the states, they will use the powers of the federal government to make it happen. It has to work. It will be a huge effort that. It will take everybody's effort. Why can't cruise lines have their medical staff help administer the vaccines? It has to work. But the vaccine also has to be rolled out in Canada, the UK, Germany, China, India, Egypt and Morocco for it to be safe to travel globally. On a cruise ship, a plane, train or theatre or neighborhood restaurant there are people from all over the world. If they were not vaccinated, you are not safe. It will take leadership. The US has traditionally provided that leadership. The buck stops on the President's desk. My guess is that it is way to early to say when it will be safe to travel. In the meantime, wear a mask, social distance, stay home, be smart and watch videos of past vacations.
  17. The solution might be that the US and foreign immigration agencies require a COVID vaccine. Then if you want to cruise, you will be required to get a vaccine. If you do not want to get the vaccine, fine. You just cant get on cruise ship or an international flight or drive across the boarder to Canada. Simple your choice.
  18. Can the cruise industry medical professionals help in administering the vaccines in their home countries? It would be good for the public and good PR.
  19. I know this thread has been altered to what is happening with the vaccines. In order to safely cruise (and even travel within the US let alone globally), vaccines will need to be delivered into people's arms across the globe. One can not assume that what is happening in the US, Canada and the UK will be sufficient to travel safely. The pandemic has hit every continent, including Antarctica. The rollout of the vaccines will require leadership and global cooperation. The US has traditionally provided much of the leadership. There is not a Republican or Democratic way to administer the vaccine. Likewise the actual deliver of the vaccine in the US is the same as delivering the vaccine in the UK, France, China, India and Zambia. Traveling on a cruise ship or via plane will not be safe for a while. Just saying.
  20. Just wondering how anyone can say it was a success like nothing in history when we as a country are 90% short of the goal of 20 million. If y performance evaluation was at 10%, my boss and I would have a serious conversation. 10% on a test in school is an F.
  21. The federal government has a policy that once the vaccine is approved, distribution and delivery is up to all 50 states + DC. They had a goal of 20 million , but delivered 2.1 million. The new administration will take a more active role, setting guidelines, use the powers of the federal government to ensure supplies are manufactured and the vaccines are delivered to those at risk.
  22. The Johnson and Johnson vaccine has not been approved. Nore has the Astra Zeneca has been approved.
  23. It is actually 2.1 million doses delivered. These people will require a 2nd dose. There are 331 million Americans. 0.6% of the population is not good enough to relax. According to experts it will take 10 years to vaccinate the public at the current pace. Just saying
  24. I think that cruising in 2021 is optimistic. The administration had no plan to roll out the vaccine in the US. They will not achieve targets by end of the 1st quarter. The holiday surge will set the country even farther behind. before they can roll out the vaccines, they need the equipment needed to dose the vaccine , PPEs and a way to transport it to remote areas where there are no CVS and Walgreens. Federal government had no plan. Not being political, just stating the fact that we will not be safe until 2022 at the earliest.
  25. I understand that. But the media is only focused on the emotions and not scientific facts. When a passenger knowingly went to the airport and got on a flight even though they showed COVID-19 symptoms, the story was berried. But a passenger on Quantum of the Seas had a false positive test and the ship implemented their protocol, front page. Cruise lines should put their medical advisors n front of the science/medical reporters and not just the travel reporters.
