We have two families traveling together which includes 2 kids 2 1/2 and under. We are looking for suggestions for a half-day morning excursion/activity in St Maarten. We thought about traveling to Maho Beach via taxi but we're worried about not having car seats. Is there an easy way to get there? Anyone that has been there - would you suggest this be the best use of a morning there? Would there be any other activity/excursions that would better suit us? Thank you!

Maho beach is NOT what it once was. The beach is all but gone in place of large erosion boulders which keep onlookers farther away from the runway. You now have to get in the ocean to see the planes. My suggestion if the family is able body would be to take the walk from the port to downtown (stroller friendly) and enjoy the beach which has plenty of dining, shopping and drink options.

Following - We're docked in St Maarten next week and have 3 kids (8, 6, and 4).

  • How is Great Bay Beach compared to Junkanoo Beach in Nassau? Great Bay Beach looks bigger and less crowded, but how are the hawkers?
  • Is see there are public busses (more like passenger vans), are those viable for getting to other sights? can we take the kids without car seats?

If your kids (or YOU!) are at all into Star Wars or other sci-fi/fantasy films, you might want to check out The Yoda Guy museum & shop, owned & operated by Nick Maley, one of the original designers of Yoda, and many other memorable film & TV creatures over the years. Nick & his wife Gloria retired to St Marten years ago, and personally welcome fans who come to the museum, located on Front Street, an easy walk from the pier. Well worth a visit, tons of info here on their official website at netdwellers.com/mo/ygme/index.html I'm taking my happy group of celebrities from & fans of Doctor Who there when we stop in St Marten, and we're really looking forward to it.
