Glitz
Hello All, 1st time poster. Been on 5 Royal Caribbean cruises. My family fell in love with the flowrider and this is a big reason we continue to cruise with Royal. Always cruised on the Oasis class ships with 2 flowriders aboard. We only standup flowride. Having 2 flowriders on board made it easy, as one was dedicated to standup and the other to boogie. We’re considering a 9 day cruise on the Explorer with 1 Flowrider. Wondering if anyone has recent experience on this ship and how the time is split between standup and boogie boarding? Do they just allow you to ride what you want or do they have designated times for each? We’re expecting longer lines then we have experienced in past, just wanting to maximize our time standup flowriding !
steverk
They have designated times for each. There may be a few hours for "mixed wave" but that's minimal Glitz
F1guynz
Sometimes they divide the flowrider into 2 parts and have two people on it simultaneously.

recogneyes
Our family can totally relate to your consideration of two flowriders. In a nutshell, my crew prefers that we sail on the Oasis class ships so that they have a dedicated stand up flowrider (except Wonder as only has one). We did just sail on a B2B on Explorer but it was a cruise of the Greek Isles so we were focussed on the itinerary more than the ship. The crew was outstanding and while the ship is older, we had no complaints in relation to how the ship looked and felt. In relation to flowrider, there were few dedicated stand up times in relation to boogie and mixed wave...most days dedicated stand up was at most 2 hours per day (and usually split between morning and afternoon). That was not ideal but we made the most of it. Of course, there's always the option to rent out the flowrider for a private hour of time to use how you like it but that does get costly. If itinerary is more important...perhaps you have more port than sea days.. and you don't feel that limited stand up times will dampen your vacation then you should go for it. DoomSlayer
Love the Flowrider and I am probably one of the few people that value the special Flowrider time with the Key or the special VIP Flowrider access with a suite which kind of gets me around this dilemma as they let me do whichever I want during these times. I do both the stand up Flowboard and the bodyboard, so I participate in whatever is available during the general times. I know you said you enjoy the Flowboard, but I would encourage you to also try the bodyboard as it can be a challenge and has its own set of tricks you can learn once you start to mater it, especially once you learn how to sit in a drop knee position. My only gripe is that Royal has strict rules when it comes to the tricks you can do on either, so be sure to ask what's allowed and what is not allowed. Usually, things where the board is not under you will get you in trouble with them, so no supermans, yo-yos, foot plants, barrel rolls, summersalts, DKs, pterawalks, or complex acid drops are allowed. Most of the tricks you see in the Flow Show are off limits too.
steverk
Btw. Last time I was in Costa Maya they were building a flowrider on shore. It appeared to be complete, but wasn't open. I have no idea what it will cost or what tricks will be allowed. DoomSlayer

I am not a huge fan of Costa Maya and usually stay at the ship with a quick walk around the terminal to stretch my legs. I'll look for it next time I am there! Follow the shops around just past the chocolate shop. There's a hallway that leads to another shopping area. Inside that area is a new pool and the new Flowrider.
