Canadians - Where Are You Booking Your Rapid Test?

Recommended Posts

Fellow Canadians, I’m curious if anyone has used anything other than Shoppers Drug Mart - such as Costco, Rexall, No Frills, Walmart or any other place to get their proctored rapid antigen test to fly into US and board Royal cruise … Shoppers is the most expensive at $40 but I know has the proper travel papers.

Wondering if anyone has successfully used another place like Costco (half the price) and had no issues with their rapid test and travel papers

@willowberry88 Switch Health Canada has tele-health which is recognized by the Canadian Border Services.  The last time i had them it was $70 for 2 and they provide all the documents you need for travel.  This is what I will use whenI return to Canada if they tests are sill required whenI return in May.

This kit is not accepted by Royal to board the ship you have to use the companies they recommend Here is there link to Their FAQ page https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/is-there-a-telemedicine-option-for-pre-cruise-covid-19-test.

There has been lots of discussion about the Switch Health Antigen tests - now that the Cdn govt has stated that telehealth administered antigen tests will be accepted to return to Canada at least we have that cleared up.  Some members have posted that Royal does accept these same tests to board the ship.  Anyone able to verify that recently?

Depending on where you live, you could have independent clinics providing fee-based testing for travel somewhere near you. Those places are usually more expensive. Honestly, $40 at SDM isn't bad IMO... I don't see why Costco pharmacy would have any issue unless your information was placed incorrectly.

Agreed, we booked Shoppers at $40/each … as a family of 6 it sure adds up fast! But all good, don’t want to take any chances! It’s interesting I’m still yet to meet or hear from any Canadian that has used anything but the Shoppers Drug Mart rapid test to board their Royal cruise!

Royal does not accept Switch Health Canada, that is what I am using to get back into Canada.

For the cruise they seem to only accept the Abbott BinaxNow that has to be ordered and mailed to you and you do the test prior to your cruise via tele health.

  • International guests sailing from the U.S. are able to complete their testing using telehealth test kits, providing the kit has been authorized for use by the U.S. FDA. Telehealth test kits obtained internationally that do not meet this requirement will not be accepted. International guests can arrange to have F.D.A.-approved test kits shipped to the U.S. address where they’ll be staying before their cruise and complete their test prior to departing for the cruise terminal using a U.S. PayPal address to complete the purchase.
