Michael Vitale
Does anyone know when you can begin reserving specialty restaurants ?? I've just made final payment and it's saying "we cannot reserve at this time, book onboard". Well duh, that not "reserving". I want to reserve several nights NOW. What gives ?? Anyone ?? JohnK6404
It seems like (at least in my limited experience - 3 cruises with RC) it varies... that message you received is normal when the online booking is not available just yet. As an example, for our cruise back in 2013 on the Explorer of the Seas, the booking opened up around 90 days before sail date... for our last cruise (last month) on Liberty of the Seas, to our complete surprise, the booking opened up 6 months before the sail date! I'm not sure what triggers these time frames, but keep checking online and you may be surprised! Maybe someone else can chime in and explain the logic... enjoy your cruise! :)
DocLC
You're likely just too far out. Check back weekly, but you should be able to somewhere between 60-90 days.
WAAAYTOOO
I agree. The "error" message that they put up there is very confusing. It should say something like, "....booking options available between 4 - 90 days prior to cruising...". Instead, it makes you think that you've missed the opportunity and now you must wait until you get onboard to make reservations. Very misleading and confusing. DocLC
Agreed, WaaayTooo. A similar message appears for shows even on ships that don't allow you to prebook.
Matt
Check out the planning timeline: http://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2015/02/09/the-total-royal-caribbean-cruise-planning-timeline
Michael Vitale
Thanx Matt. That's helpful. It looks like 60 days for dining reservations. Another question. Do I lose the first night discount if I reserve now ? Is the discount just for those who buy while on board ?
DocLC
They'll apply the discount onboard, but I've had to chase it down. My advice is to just book when you get onboard as they're never full the first night. The last two cruises, there were only two other couples when we dined at specialty restaurants.
