Calculating Club Royale Booking Rates

Sorry if this is long but I had previously reverse engineered the booking formula for club royale rates and room upgrades so I could do some accurate vacation planning.  The new rollout seems to have tweeked them a bit and I was wondering if anyone else had some answers.

Pretty confident that the methodology is still accurate when upgrading to a stateroom room from a comp stateroom offer.  RACK Rate of desired room - RACK rate of comp room yields RACK upgrade price.  Take club royale discount off of that ( I had always received about 48% discount but I recently received a 60% discount on an upgrade to a GS on Harmony)  then add taxes and fees and voila...Out of pocket cost.

So, first question is....is 60% the new normal?

Second question is, when using the trade in value instead of the COMP room (assume when the COMP is limited to a specific sailing).  Is the trade in value subtracted before or after the casino rate is applied.  Since the trade in value is normally well below the COMP stateroom value  I think it is applied after the casino discount....I don't know.  Any help is appreciated.

I'm not following this part very well.

But...It has been very consistent for me as follows:

Whatever the discounted rate is (30% off, 25% off, whatever the current sale happens to be), discount that <discounted> rate by 60% and you will get your casino upgrade charge.  It isn't exact, but it will be a pretty darned good guess and it's been very consistent for at least the past 6 months.  

 

Example:  August 25, 2019 Liberty of the Seas - Owner's Suite

List price (is this your "rack" price ?) - 3838 PP - $2513 (60% plus some flash sales) = 3838*2 = 7272 - 2513= $5163

The casino upgrade cost for an inside comp (certificate) room to OS was $996 PP or $1992 total.

1992 is 38% of 5163 so my ultimate discount off of the advertised list price was 62%. 

 

Example #2:  April 28, 2019 Freedom of the Seas - Owner's Suite

List price - 4826 PP - 3106 in promos = $6546 

The casino upgrade cost for an inside comp (cert) to OS was $1349 PP or $2698 total.

2698 is 41% of 6546 so my ultimate discount off the advertised list price was 59%.

 

Only a 3% variance so I think it's a pretty good rule of thumb that your casino rate for a comped room is going to be 40% of the advertised, discounted rate.

If you compare the casino rate to the FULL price, it REALLY sounds good....but that's not a fair comparison as nobody pays full price.

Now....I suspect that the percentage discount is category-dependent...so I doubt you would get that same (60%) discount percentage going from an interior room to say a balcony, but I really don't know as I never book anything other than a suite these days.  The 60% rule has worked all the way up to Star Class so I think it must be a pretty good approximation.

This is why a certificate for a comped room - no matter what category it is - is SOOO much better than a certificate for $$ off.  I just throw any $$ off certificates I get into the trash.  They are useless to me.

No.  The $$ off value is subtracted from the regular, full rate so that's why the comp certs are so much more valuable than any $$ off cert.
