  1. Here is my summary post! This was the first week of the NEW Menus on Adventure of the Seas. In the MDR three things were consistently good. Caesar salad was better than most restaurants on land. Really great lettuce and dressing. The little steaks are quite tender and tasty. The standout dinners I had were both Indian food. Lamb on french night and chicken on bon voyage night. I think the Indian entrees were the way to go and would have done it all 4 nights. The warm cookie with ice cream and the cheesecake were also delicious. Everything else was a very mixed bag. My husband had a few weak entrees. Spaghetti, fish on the first night, lamb on bon voyage all a big letdown. Tomato soup was good. Crab cake was AWFUL. A few things had tasty and bad elements in the same dish. Greek tapas plate (good humus bad pita) and corn cakes (savory salsa) come to mind. In the Windjammer the indian curried porridge at breakfast was great, and the coconut cookies. Key lime in a cup was nice. Breadsticks GREAT! Mac and cheese good. All other pastry desserts in both venues were basically flavorless. I was surprised. They looked pretty and tasted like bland wedding cake. Big suggestion: INDIAN NIGHT in MDR. Across the board, overall the indian food was a strong suit, and a pleasant suprise and others felt the same way. Breakfast: my one MDR breakfast was great. Normal American stuff. Room service continental breakfast was pretty good one day and really a letdown on the other. We enjoyed our 1 MDR lunch and wish we had done that more but we liked eating at 2pm with dinner at 8. I hope this is helpful to someone--- we were asked over and over how we liked our food but to be honest it was a formality. We had a great time, but marveled at how amazingly inconsistent the food was! Happy sailing. Thanks for reading. Back to work
  2. On adventure it was thin crust and easy to munch, the sausage was tasty but all in all it was more like frozen pizza then restaurant pizza.
  3. Howdy! Since we are from NYC we wanted to make the most of visiting Texas before and after our Cruise. We arrived on a Saturday night. Picked up the car. Grabbed some quick but tasty food at Buc-ees along the interstate. Checked into Holiday Inn on the Beach. Went to Buckshot saloon, did some country western dancing before the kids and nighclub vibe took over around midnight. We were going to eat again after but things were pretty quiet. Next day ate at Leos Cajun Corner which had great boudin and the best macaroni salad ever. Next day toured Galveston Island, which has a ton of historic homes, many which were decorated for Mardi Gras. Headed downtown, STUNNONG architecture and shops with lots of Mardi Gras wear. There is also a trolley that costs a dollar but we didn't have time. Also did some pre cruise shopping. After the cruise we went to Truth BBQ in Houston, which had a 1 hour line. Very tasty but might have done Pinkertons instead. Went to an art gallery where they were having an opening party with a band called the Art Car museum. Finally went to the Houston Farmers market which is SPECTACULAR-- reminded me of the market in Merida, Mexico. Admittedly the rental car and hotel were a significant chunk of our budget but it was totally worth it and we wouldn't have minded another day or two.
  4. Yep I would think you could maybe uber or hire a guide? You cold also rent a car and make good use of it to tour the whole park and the island while stopping to hike the best trails.
  5. I lived in Maine about 15 years ago so my suggestions may be out of date. The big LL store in Freeport is a quick easy trip from Portland and fun. FYI Bar harbor and the down east coast is at least another 2 hours of driving, Maybe more The most beautiful drive in Coastal Maine (IMO) is Castine to Blue Hill. Though Acadia Park and MDI is also spectacular. I love Castine as a place to visit though I don't remember specific places to eat there. Very cute town on the water. There are also several smaller towns on Mount Desert Island worth a look and I wouldn't be surprised if there was some good fine dining there too.
  6. So we liked our waiter and assistant very well and gave them a tip before the last dinner to reassure them. There was a LOT of pressure to give them top reviews, and especially to score the food high. Any issues should go in comments because our waiter is held responsible for both service and food score. My husband felt almost overwhelmed by the desperation. Even the staff "Show" talked about ratings. They mentioned repeatedly not let the unevenness of the food affect the scores because the waiter would be held responsible.
  7. Hey so we LOVED LOVED Galveston. Really our favorite aspect was all the beautiful historic houses decorated for Mardi Gras. We did not get to Koops but we loved leos country corner. I could go on and on.
  8. Hey Yall! Thanks for all of the replies. It went fine although the morning went fast. Yes the Holiday inn on the beach shuttle is a loop with a few stops, and that loop takes a bit more than an hour. So we were worried about getting off in time to catch the first bus. But we made it just fine.
  9. Old San Juan is walkable, there is a lot to see and I missed some cool things until we went back with a car. (Neither trip was a cruise.) We have also visited downtown San Juan, went to dinner there and there was a cool food truck park. The beach area is also fairly spread out.
  10. Last dinner—- crazy mixed bag…. Bon Voyage The hummus was very nice but the med tapas plate was random. I really liked the Indian chicken dish, The lamb was disgusting . Catalan crème too sweet. I will do a wrap up post. cheers!
  11. It was the hotel shuttle from the holiday Inn on the beach. We rented a car at Houston airport and stayed in Galveston for 2 nights. We loved it. . I did join GalvestonSaltwater Moms facebook page and I know she does private car rides.
  12. Adventure of the seas. Silly me I thought the cruise shuttle would just be a van from our hotel, but it’s a bus that makes a circle. So if we miss the first bus at 830 am, it seems like the next chance is 10 am. A long time to stand at a bus stop. We will wheel our own bags. So any expert tips how to get off by 830 am. I guess we could just try Lyft too. should we try to get to deck 3? thanks BTW super happy with Galveston otherwise. Lots of nice people in the city and on the cruise.
  13. A little WIndjammer breakfast note they do serve special Indian breakfast food they have a curried semolina that was delicious..a wow also some special pancakes with veggies that I didn’t like as well room service coffee was AWFUL… coffee is a big treat for me…especially on a balcony but ugh. the cup I had in MDR was aok
  14. The cookie was the best actually I have been eating steamed veggies for the first time ever… I like them crisp
  15. Ok so after a strong French night and a night in port we were surprised to have Mexican night. I mean we all just spent the day eating in MEXICO. Anyway. I foul the Poblano soup bland and almost ran back to my room to grab the condiments from my late lunch. the corn cakes were almost good. I liked the salsa a lot and the veggies, they just needed a bit more cooking. my husband was very disappointed in the spaghettI. I had hopes that the Indian butter chicken would be good, the lamb was great two night ago. I was let down by it , but E ended up eating it. He never likes Indian so go figure. BUT— THE WARM COOKIE ROCKS. Believe the hype. we might have had two sweet dreams
  16. Lol. I thought the soup was too bland and ordered hot sauce. With that addition I liked it with the corn and meat at the bottom. We had corn cakes which were undercooked, but the sauce on them was nice. the coconut cake was blah , cookie was good why do they feed us Mexican food when we just left Mexico?
  17. Hey y’all MDR lunch hubby .. shrimp risotto— shrimp fine risotto bland seafood sandwich— “ok” ceasar number 3 great! They are winning the Romain game, I like this dressing too ordered with steak, again these mini steaks area pretty good , tender and well seasoned, easy to cut French fries blah. Frying just doesn’t seem to be a strong suit. room service breakfast best part was plain yogurt, with granola and fruit oatmeal very blah Pastries blah blah
  18. FRENCH NIGHT MUCH BETTER onion soup was fine —topping savory Indian food — lamb Rogan Josh REALLY GOOD my husband really liked beef tenderloin… very tender.. a little bland for me tender meat, great sauces, good bread, best thing so far Cappuccino Cake— meh bland and dry Creampuffs decent
  19. I did have Indian in the windjammer at lunch. Beef curry sauce was fine, meat tough, veggie kourma good, (especially good as condiment on egg salad sandwich, seriously! ) I definitely find the Indian sauces jazz up the windjammer a lot. tonight is French night in Windjammer
  20. Rookie error: I did not know how to print out the luggage tags. ( I still don’t to be honest, are they on the app? ) At the port we allowed a porter to take our bags. One small one fell off the cart, got lost and damaged, but did show up in security and our room attendant found it. It had a Green Bay packers logo which I showed him and that helped him find it. So moral of the story I would do the tags if you know how or make sure you see them put on at the port. but overall having a great time
  21. We had to switch out an entree last night. They did it at lightning speed but we got a kind of scolding visit from the captain
  22. Ok breakfast thoughts. everyone seems under a lot of pressure and like they are in fear, which is sad. Literally the head waiter stopped by to say I heard you ran out of milk. It’s breakfast, I don’t really need to debrief what went wrong. food was good… scrambled eggs with onions were delish. But they brought a lot of things I didn’t order. ( bacon sausage fried potato) tried not to eat them , partial fail fruit cup was fine big plus they let me take out a breakfast for sleeping hubby and we ate it in the balcony At the buffet I added a bit of Indian sauce to the veggies which took them to a new level May try Indian in MDR tonight
  23. Hi I posted a summary at the end if you don't want to read the whole thread! So we were told by our waiter today was their first day of the new menus on Adventure. It was a mixed bag. Apps: tomato soup good,, crab cake INEDIBLE cold mush, and I am from Maryland, shrimp cocktail fine,Caesar quite good. Mains: fish was mushy and odd tasting, fried chicken mushy too though the honey is a nice touch. The steak was good, the carrots with it were excellent, broccoli good. Our waiter was sweet but the captain was perturbed we asked for replacements on the crab and fish.
  24. Hey y’all! So actually the cruise shuttle dictated our time. We got on board. There was plenty of room and no waiting in WJ and we had a table with a lovely view. So it was a great start.
