  1. True, the name isn't gender specific. But there's a man and a woman in the profile pic, and we just automatically assume it's the man! Doesn't seem right to me, maybe were just shovanest pigs :) . I think I'll just attribute it to the fact he's taller.
  2. I did the same thing, isn't that awful. Should never assume. Although your right, probably not the baby. Welcome Christie.
  3. Screw it, I'm going for it. Just re-did our flights last night, leaving at 10:30. I think we can do it, was a short cab ride to airport last time. If it's true the Allure tends to get people off early then we should be good. Stupid Air Canada canceled our flights so we had to redo everything. Got our 10:30 direct flight on points and got a awesome deal from WestJet heading to Lauderdale, arive at 9am. We paid 384 CAD taxes and fees in for a direct flight for 2 of us, surprised to see direct flights from Halifax for under 200. I know your cruising the day after us in feb, not sure if WestJet's prices compare to yours. I wish prices were always this good.
  4. ...When you sit on Periscope for over a hour watching some strange guy film ships leave Port Everglades, daily!
  5. When a women makes up her mind it's best to leave it be IMO. Sounds like your looking for a new room. Hopefully Royal sorts this out to your liking, not sure why this was left to the last minute, I belive your only 10 days away. I think they should be understanding that you need the center, I hope for the best. It's the not knowing that would bug me, we all plan these things long in advance, now you don't even know if you have a room 10 days out! Best of luck.
  6. Thanks, I got a hell raising kitten that likes it too.
  7. Merry Christmas everyone. We're having family over for dinner tomorrow (TURKEY!), then off to visit extended families over the next few days, love it. I hope everyone has a great season. Here's my tree this year.
  8. Wow, great debate so far. Lots of good points mentioned. Like montonguy, I'm on the fence. Kids probably do consume less, but if the 3rd and 4th passengers are cheaper then it should balence out.
  9. I don't really know anything about them, I'm curious about the feel. Touristy? Pushy salesmen? Maybe it's more of a natural community feel.
  10. I may do it from the Allure, just not sure if I want to pay for Internet, maybe. I'm @Halifax_Jerel As a heads up I posted a thread in 'people connect' to share names of people presently scoping.
  11. If you can, tell us how it went when you get back, even if it's just a short blurb. We like reading that stuff, especially from the perspective of a new cruiser.
  12. When I was on the Independence of the seas last month it was the same thing, I believe there was one everyday.
  13. Never heard that. I am torn on the issue though. Wate slides are fun and I like to ride them, great for families too. But I think they will look tacky. I like the way the ships look now, very sleak. Adding colourful slides will make the ship look like a floating carnival IMO. I really don't like the idea of them in the bordwalk of the Harmony. I really like the openness of the back of the Oasis class, having slides go down the center will ruin the tunnel effect I think. Maybe I'm just being a old bitty, who knows, I do like riding them.
  14. Lots of reveling confessions here, many I am guilty of too. I'd say my worst is going online and discussing trivial things as if they were important, but you wouldn't know anything about that now would you ;). I was just thinking... How many of you could spit out your 9 diget Royal Caribbean membership number without thinking twice, but need your phone to know your mothers phone number? Like this post if this is you.
  15. You folk are right, the long dinner has its up sides. Me and my wife get tables for two and tend to spend our time talking without distractions, we enjoy it. Surprisingly we've been together for 16 plus years and still enjoy each others company. That said, sometimes we just don't have the time. On a busy day with excursions and shows we may just grab a bite elsewhere, and then have to explain myself to the waiters the next day, "I'm sorry, I went to Jonny Rockets". I don't do specialty restaurants but if I did it might be a good idea to do them on days where you have less time than the MDR can offer.
  16. If you have time when you get back tell us how your trip went, we like reading reviews, especially when compared to another line.
  17. I'm a big fan of the MDR and it's service, it never fills me up but that's what the Windjammer is for. The one thing I don't like is how long the MDR takes, a hour and a half. That may be something to consider mschmitt, on busy days you may prefer to go to a restaurant because it's faster.
  18. That's funny. At least if they come to your place you know they don't require any decent entertainment, and of course they won't complain about the food.
  19. See, now your thinking. Maybe we should Matt to make some Speedos printed with the blog logo. You can't find higher quality advertising :).
  20. Funny thing is everytime I go swiming I hate having to wait for my shorts to dry, nothing worse than sitting around in wet shorts (im a ginger so i avoid the sun). Then it hit me."Speedos!! I need some Speedos! They must dry fast". Then I came back to reality and decided that may not be a good idea.
  21. Hey Montonguy, thanks. I cant help you too much because I didnt check out the club, other than a walkthrough when empty. I can say it did have a cool mid-evil theme, I think, either way it looked cool in there. On my cruise the crowd was younger than expected, many in their 30's on average, the party's definitely were not empty. Not sure why the crowd was a bit younger, the ship, the port, time of year, maybe the low cost of that sailing, who knows. I sat down outside the pub a few times to people watch, really good spot to chill on the promenade. Never stayed too long but it is a nice place with a easy going feel. I have noticed bands play here and there, never paid too much attention though. I know your a small ship guy but I really think you'll enjoy this class. Lots of cool stuff on the pool deck but for me its the Promenade, lots of great events there and its just a great place to hang out. On a side note. My sailing was over Remembrance day so I decided to wear a poppy, I thought it would be a good shout out to any Canadians on board, and it was, got approached by many. One interesting thing was that atleast 4 or 5 African workers came up to me genuinely excited to see it, they all said how when they were a kid everyone in school had to wear one. A couple of Americans knew what it was and thanked me for wearing it but mostly I got allot of 'nice flower' comments, like im just trying to add pizazz to my wardrobe :).
  22. We chose our dinning time for 6 o'clock, also booked shows. First time having to book shows, normally like to fly by the seat of my pants and go with the flow. Can't really do that when you have to plan ahead, but oh well, I'm sure it will be fine. Booked Aria, Blue Planet, 150, and comedians. Haven't booked Mama Mia, not sure about that one. WAAAYTOOO, I'm not a fan of social media either, don't even have a smart phone, have texting blocked too. Also a huge hater of Facebook, self absorbed people saying 'look at me, look at me' with their fake representations. That said it's good to make a bum account for things like this, I got a few.
  23. Agree with above statements. Really I think your over thinking this. I was worried about the same thing cruising with my Dad, will he be attached at the hip or will I never be able to find him, maybe ill spend all my time trying to keep him happy. Really there was no reason to worry, theres so much to do together and apart. I knew where he liked to hang out and we left each other messages on our room phones, also met up at MDR. Easy to find him when we wanted to hang out and easy to break off if needed alone time. Really I think honesty is the best option. If you dont want to see the song and dance show, say so, they wont mind, nor would you. Keep in mind your going with cruisers, im sure you will all have a great time, together and apart.
