Can't tell you how many but they will be US and round-pin European so you'll need to plan on taking adapters for your UK plugs.
Thank you.

In the western Med the only thing you need dollars for is the casino on board the ship, so if you're planning on making a contribution there it might be worth getting some dollars. Otherwise, unless you're planning on paying your onboard account in cash, you really don't need to take dollars at all.
Incidental expenditure aboard the ship will be priced in dollars but it'll be charged to whatever card you set up for your onboard account. Be sure to have them charge it in dollars and not pounds, leaving your CC company to do the exchange. The exchange rate is bad enough at the moment without you supplementing Royal by letting them charge you an even worse exchange rate.
All of your ports are in the euro zone so that's the currency you're going to need. The folks in Italy, Spain and France may not accept dollars and if they do you can be sure the exchange rate will be in your favour. Even if you want to tip somebody like a tour guide, it's much better to do it in euros. If you give them dollars they're going to have to exchange them and chances are they'll lose out by doing so.
Any additional tips you may want to give crew will be just as gratefully received in euros as in dollars, since the euro is reasonably strong at the moment.
Thank you

I don't tip more than the prepaid 18% gratuities. I do however bring cash for the casino and for the places we visit that do not accept card.
Thank you

We are doing Adventure of the seas in October, I will be taking some dollars but not specifically for tipping on board. Being a Brit like yourself we will be prepaying gratuities and 18% is added to the drink package so feel that is sufficient tipping.
Many thanks

The casino accepts cash only unless you use you Seapass to get gambling money and there is a 5% convenience fee if you do that.

The short answer is yes but how you use them would be up to you. I use them for tips to servers, chamber workers, excursion guides, if they do well, and others that I think do a good job at enhancing my vacation. Also, on some excursions they rent items such as kayaks, waterboards, snorkeling trips, and also lockers to put your stuff in while doing activities. You need cash to pay for those things. And, not to forget, depending on where you are going, pictures are always involved which is nice to have and cash can make it easier. Some of the items I listed could be handled by Credit Cards but not all.
I always bring cash with me on cruises. The amount depends on how long the cruise is and where I am going.
Many thanks.

Hi. We are from th UK and are on the Jewel doing a 7 night western med this month. We have drinks packages booked and plan to roam the different restaurants nightly. My gratuities are all paid in advance. Do I need to take dollars with me? I'm not sure as I've never done an American cruise line before. Any advice greatly received.

Just a passing thought are the spirit measures "doubles" ie 50ml say in a gin and tonic?

Yes ,
Once the ship is docked it will take most of the times 30 minutes more to clear then you can disembark with your suitcase.
Travel from the port to the airport will take 1 to 1.30 minutes pending traffic
Thank you for your advise

Just a thought! We have to be at Rome Airport by midday and was planning on leaving the ship around 9am. As we will be using a shared shuttle service.. Question.. Can I just grab my own bags and disembark when I want? Cheers.

If remembering right, at least for our cruises, around 3:30 - 4. Gets done right before Sail Away party.
Thanks for that

I am sailing with folks that said that they like to just have the continental breakfast every morning on the balcony. I really am a big breakfast person and want to take advantage of the big breakfast buffet. What I was wondering is if I can just venture over to the buffet and get my breakfast food myself and bring it back to the room to eat on the balcony with my friends? Do people do this? I really hate to pay 8 dollars a day for bacon and eggs and such, when i can go get it myself for free...and other stuff too! Also, if you can do this, will they give you a box or do you just carry a plate of food (or 2) back to your room?
I was thinking about ordering a continental brekky or perhaps just a coffee just to prime me up for a good breakfast later.

If you know their travel plans, you can try to either board much earlier than they do and hide out somewhere that they almost certainly won't go OR board as late as possible to minimize the chance of running into them (but that reduces your vacation time).
As for muster, that will depend on whether your muster stations are near each other or not - tough to control that piece.
Big question - why would you want to avoid them all day on embarkation day? Appearing in their presence any time once onboard will still be a big surprise. Why not board early and be waiting for them when they enter the ship? SURPRISE!
Thanks for the response. We (through talking to them) we have mirrored there shore excursions in our cruise planner. We are booked in only 7 staterooms down from them. We've got an idea that they will be on board around lunchtime the same as ourselves! I was thinking if it was possible to tag onto there my time dining and join them for dinner but not sure of there dining reservation time!

Hi everybody it's my first post. We are going on a Mediterranean cruise on Jewel in September and if we can succeed in avoiding our relatives on embarkation and the muster meeting we would like to surprise them as we have kept it a secret from them for over a year now! Any ideas of "how to spring one on them" all suggestions will be taken on board (excuse pun)! Thanks.
