  1. Randomly came across some reviews of Labadee on Trip advisor, lots of negatives about the market type stalls that are set back from the main Artisan Market. Really pushy and aggressive sellers physically dragging people (mainly women from what I read) into their stores not taking no for an answer.

Has anyone experienced this? To be honest if its like that I’ll give it a wide berth as I will end up being less than polite.

@mcoler18  If you are going to eat in the MDR often,  and like the wedge salad that Chops offers,  just tell your waiter the night before and they will have it there for you.  The MDR does offer the wedge salad at least 1x during the cruise, but it is not a staple on their nightly menu, whereas it is on Chops.  I never eat the wedge in Chops because I like the goat cheese, but I eat it every night in the MDR since I like it more than the Caesar.

You will love Adventure.  It is an amazing ship.  I would contact Royal or your TA and ask for either a window table or a balcony.

Great thank you, could you get the Carpaccio brought to the MDR, or anything else of the Chops menu?

Thank you! That’s what I figured but it’s always good to check.

Just to add, we have done two RC cruises before and didnt know this, I only found out recently on here, you can order more than one starter or desert if you like in the MDR and speciality restaurants. We are on Adenture of the seas in October and am defiantley going to be ordering the Carpaccio and Black Pepper Bacon in chops ?

  4. Hi, I was wondering if anyone could recommend us a nice beach on either of these islands. Ideally a quiet one with not much going on. On our first cruise back in 2004 (we have only been on 3 in total) we got off the ship in I think it was Antigua and jumped in a little mini van he took us to a beach right on the other side of the island which had couple of hotels set back,  a little bar/beach shack which had no electricity, they kept the beers/drinks cool in old ice cream fridges that were filled with ice and some lads hiring out some really high powered jet bikes. It was such a good day. Hardly any other tourists there.

Anyone know of any other hidden gems?

There can indeed be big differences in price and, in fact, someone fairly recently on this board did a detailed comparison and ended up booking through a US agent and saving money. I'm afraid I can't remember the poster's name or the title of his thread, but maybe someone else can and can post the link for you. One reason can be that sometimes travel agencies make block bookings of cabins on certain sailings. This means they get them cheaper from the cruise line and can pass on the savings to their customers.

Anyway, you do need to make sure you have taken all the details into account. One especially important one is the cost of the taxes. Some sites show you the base price as the lead-in price but then as you get further into the booking you still have to add on taxes. Another thing to bear in mind is that when booking through a US agent you don't get the same protection benefits that you do when you book in the UK, e.g. ABTA protection and the EU rules regarding compensation in the case of cancellations and alterations by the cruise line (although who knows where you'll stand on that until this whole Brexit mess is sorted out). On the other hand, you can benefit from certain US rules such as re-pricing if the cruise fare drops.

It pays to shop around too. These boards are sponsored by a US agent - MEI Travel - that posters usually speak very highly of, so it might be worth contacting them too for a quote.

Thanks, i'll have a look at that MEI. Now you have said that the American site does state the price does not include taxes or fees, so will actually be more than the quoted price, but still cheaper I guess.

  6. It is my mother in laws 60th birthday in March 2021, so was having a look at cruises yesterday. On the UK RC site there was a 7 nigth Oasis sailing on the 28th March 2021 out of Fort Lauderdale (this is the start of the two week school easter break in the UK), it is coming out at £1050.00 pp, had a look on a site www.vacationstogo.com which is an American cruise site, the very same cruise £636 pp plus a $50 on board credit. For the wife and I and the two kids thats a £1656 difference, surely that cant be right?

We've done BOGO twice but otherwise have dinner in MDR. We line the food and also like getting to know our waiters.

We also like going on sea days for lunch. Great salad bar and they also gave good items on menu.

DH and I enjoy it for breakfast for the Eggs Benedict, but our kids prefer Windjammer so we don't always make it.

We have only done Jewel and Allure in the past, Jewel prior to having kids and I think we used the MDR most nights then.

I prefer breakfast in the MDR, much more civilised and stops me going completly over the top on the amount of food I put away ?

  8. On our upcoming 8 night cruise on Adventure we have booked the 3 night dining plan at £51.00 which we thought was a really good price, we are planning to do Chops twice and Giovanni’s once.

We are definitely going to do the first formal night in the MDR, but after that will probably just see what happens, we have a 5 year old and a 9 year old and our dining time is 8.30pm I really cant see them wanting to eat at that time going on until 10pm. If they are happy to go in the kids club we will probably use the MDR more but if not I could probably only see us going in once or twice for dinner.

  9. The private Flowrider 1 hour session is showing on our planner priced at £262.20 per adult, there is 6 adults in our group who would like to do this, surely it would not £1573.20?

Would we not just book one session and all six of us could just go on?

  10. Hi All,

We have been allocated the 8.30pm dining time for our October sailing on Adventure, we are a family of 11 including my two little girls who are 6 and 9.

It is an 8 night sailing and we have booked the 3 night dining package so will be only eating in the MDR 5 nights max, maybe less if we use the Windjammer once or twice but my question is would it be possible to change the time from 8.30pm and if so how? Im thinking 8.30pm is going to be too late for especially the 6 year old to eat. Depending on how the take to Adventure ocean kids club we did think we could feed them them first somewhere and then go to the MDR while they went in the kids club for a couple of hours but if they dont take to it they are going to be a pain by 10 -10.30 pm by the time we have finised dinner and if thats the case, my wife and I and the two kids probabaly wont use the MDR, we'll just eat in the Windjammer earlier

We retired a few years back and stepped up our cruising. For us its the best way to travel....and sailing with Royal is great because there is always someone we know onboard, it's like a big family that you look forward to seeing a couple of times a year.

    Thats great,

Although I think having a good travel agent is important I don't think anyone should rely only on there agent for information....there is no excuse today with all the information online and boards like this one to be misinformed.

We have been sailing for 20 years and currently sail 10-12 times a year with Royal and I am quite inquisitive but would never believe I know everything about cruising with Royal. In fact I know some very good travel professionals that have only cruised 2-3 times....there is so much info to know and so may companies that it's imposable for an agent to be up to speed on everything.

    10-12 times a year ? seriously jealous.
