  1. This is the reason why we do not sail anywhere during hurricane season! Even though you can get insurance it still isn't worth the inconvenience and the emotional let down. I know that I get extremely excites and happy for every cruise that we take, and the let down once I see the hurricane forming and impacting our itinerary is not worth it to us. Not saying anything about those that choose to sail during hurricane season, I just know that it is not for us! Thankfully our jobs allow us to pick when we are going on vacation and that typically happens either before or after hurricane season.
  2. Thank you, most wonder what in the world it is, until I say it, and then they get it! I am a big kid and enjoy The Jungle Book!
  3. Thats why I absolutely love them, the wife has a family plan on Verizon with her mother and I was not willing to give up the benefits that I have with Tmobile at a increased price. And I did not know about the free wifi on the flights! Thank you! I have a good network here as well, the only real place that Verizon has an advantage here is when you go WAY out in the boondocks but it is getting better. I have LTE service in almost all of the places that I frequent and have no complaints. Thank you for that extra heads up!
  4. Who is your carrier? I have Tmobile and can tell you that my phone never gets turned off while at sea just for that reason. There have been several emergencies with the mother in law while we have been out at sea that we were able to take care of. One was her falling down and not being able to get off the floor but she was able to scoot down the hall and get her cell phone. The cost to talk was more expensive onboard but it was not God awful expensive and better than the $7.95 per minute I would have paid for a land line. One of the main reasons that I will stick with Tmobile is because almost every port that we go to my cell phone works and it does not cost me another penney because it is included in my plan. Typically I get a text telling me welcome to xxxxx and that cell service and 3g data are included in my plan. Like someone else has said if it is that much of an emergency keep your phone on, and only text because it is FAR cheaper than calling. Good luck and enjoy your cruise!
  5. 35 years? HOLY COW you just earned my respect! I have been doing it 17 16 as a medic firefighter and I am already looking forward to retirement. As you say it is definitely a young persons job! Thank you for your service!
  6. I am not sure how much the island has changed since we were there in 2013 but I we had a book bag with all of our stuff in it, since we did the wave rider tour we had to put it somewhere and that is where we found the lockers. I apologize because I can not remember how much they were but you did get all day access and can go in them as much or little as the renter desired. I do have a portable safe and use it rather frequently while on a beach, and it has come in extra handy and has allowed both of us to go play in the ocean without having to worry excessively about the small amount of cash that we bring with us, our key cards, and other items that we bring with us. While the safe is not meant to be placed and keep the most determined criminal away from your stuff they are perfect for places where you are around quite a bit of people and will stop the typical thief that is just looking to pick up something as quickly and inconspicuously as possible and disappear. I will leave the choice of the safe up to you, as for us it has put our mind at ease and for the $20 it cost us it was worth every penney. There were more than enough lockers and if I remember correctly there were a few different sizes available as well! Hope that this helps!
  7. Thats still a good deck! We were one deck above you on our first cruise on an Oasis class, and it was absolutely wonderful! We picked deck 14 because my sister was two rooms down so we wanted to be close to her. I will have to agree with @tkltomp that we did enjoy being so close to the upper deck as well as the Windjammer but being on a lower deck would not ruin the cruise, it actually gives my big behind more of an excuse to hit the stairs and work off some of the calories from the Windjammer and MDR!
  8. Thank you @DocLC consider the invitation accepted! I am looking forward to the experience.
  9. I was on Oasis (I know its not Allure but close enough) last year and in room 14600 which was on the hump, it was ok, although I would have preferred to go down one deck. I really enjoyed the larger balcony but my single complaint would be the pool chair movement and some of the noise coming from the pool deck. Not sure how close you will be to any of that but that would be it! I will also have to admit that it was not constant and only during certain times of the day so it wasn't that big of a deal. Later in the evening it was quiet as a mouse.
  10. I have to agree with almost everyone here, I too fly or drive in at least a day earlier. The fact that air travel is as unreliable as it is forces us to arrive early. We have also found out that getting there also relieves the added stress and tension and we ease into the cruise much faster. I can do my best planning every aspect of the journey from Virginia to the cruise terminal but unfortunately life does happen all too frequently and the smallest incident can bring some added stress. We love getting there a day earlier so we can go out, see the area and have a great local meal!
  11. Hello @DocLC! No we booked independently, we were supposed to be on a cruise with my sister this year over spring break and we were not able to go with her this year. So my sister decided that she wanted to go to AK next year while she was onboard and once she got back she informed us of her decision and at that point since it was on my bucket list I could not say no and jumped at the opportunity. I actually did not realize that there was a group cruise until you had said something, I had not been to that corner of the site yet. Thanks for letting me know!
  12. Hello everyone! My name is Michael and am glad to be here! I have been hooked on cruising since my first one on Oasis of the Seas in 2013, and wish that I would have decided to try it out about 10 years ago! I have only sailed with RCCL but she has sailed on Carnival and swears that she will never do it again, which is why I am here. Not going to get into details but she sailed them three times and three times she had issues that managed to escalate every time she cruised, with the worst case being her third and final cruise. She is EXTREMELY vocal about not sailing Carnival so that is why our first cruise together was on Oasis. I am glad to be here and thank all of the more experienced members for sharing all of their wisdom! I have been on this site for awhile but finally decided to make it official and become a member. Thank you and have a great day!
