xSAILEDx Ovation of the Seas Jan 29 — Feb 9, 2024 11 Night New Zealand Cruise

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

Going on a trip of a lifetime, on Ovation of the Seas. Traveling from the Chicagoland area to Sydney. My daughters talked me into going by myself.  I have cruised many times before in the Caribbean, Central & South America, with family and friends. First solo trip. Looking to say hi before the trip if anyone else is heading out on this amazing trip?

Hi Chris89,

I keep up watching a few different YouTube vlogers. The couple on the NZ Pocket Guide(YouTube Channel) have details and great tips on getting through immigration in NZ, if you are flying through Auckland like I am on Air New Zealand.  The Cruise and Travel Guy (YouTube Chanel) is based in Australia and has Cruise news and Updates from down under. I do know that both countries are still requiring proper Covid vaccinations. I will make sure to get the next booster that will be available some time in October.  They have not yet lifted those requirements at this time.  I also keep up with my Travel Agent, knowing that she will be helping me apply for the proper Visa's in October or November for both countries. She said:

"when we get a bit closer, the cruise line will tell us if they take care of everyone for each or not.  It is very easy to apply for both and I already have you on my calendar to check at the 50 day mark.  Pre-covid, we submitted for anyone traveling to either via land or sea at the 30 day mark.

I hope some of this helps. If you have any info to share please pass it on. I am really looking forward to this trip of a lifetime. Hope to see you all onboard.

Bill,

I travelled to New Zealand in 2019, my sister moved there a few years ago. I’ll be going to Wellington for a week and then heading to Sydney for the cruise. I can say that the visa portion is extremely easy, I just did all of ours for both countries over the weekend. They are good for 2 years and i wanted to make sure I had it done early.

I need to check out those channels and read on Royals site to see the Covid protocols. We have all of our vaccinations, but i want to see if they are still going to require a test at the time of our sailing.

I really appreciate you reaching out, let me know how if you have any questions or find out any new information that could help us both.

- Chris

Hey Chris,

That is awesome to have family in NZ. During all my research for this trip, I am absolutely falling in love with New Zealand. I would love to retire their, however my daughters may have kids in the next few years so I need to stay to be a fun Grandad. 🙂  BTW This came across on YouTube this morning from The Cruise and Travel Guy.

Hi,

I collect Royal Caribbean casino chip. Still missing the 2 x $5 and $1 Ovation of the seas casino chip

Trying my luck, if you happen to drop by the casino, could you help to change for two of the $5 chip and $1 chip in relatively good condition for my collection.  I will pay for the chip, postage and additional for the troubler caused.  Thank you.

sample of chip.

Regards,

Jamesszy94,

Prices on the 11 night have just dropped. I was able to switch from my ocean view spacious up front cabin to a balcony at no charge. They were 1500 more when I booked back in January. Since I am going solo I was willing to do the cheaper cabin as I have to pay for double occupancy. The kids start back to school so that may be why so many open cabins.

Haha yes. I've been looking at these particular ones for a while now, hoping that balcony prices drop a bit more before I pull the trigger. I think if we're gonna sail to places like Milford/Dusky/Doubtful sound, you need a balcony, but my dad thinks getting a balcony is pointless and expensive when I'm basically paying for it.

The thing is, the 11 night one is on January 29th.... I get off the Disney Wonder on January 23rd, so it's like, I'll be back to work for 6 days then gone again for 11 nights... I don't think my manager would really like that.
