Dave and Anne
We are in Harmony of the Sea departing 4/24. Are credit cards accepted at the restaurants along the beach at At Maarten and St Thomas? We use Discover and Visa. Thank you.
wordell1
Generally, yes. But I would always ask first if you don't have cash.
Fred Said
I’ve used my Visa card on numerous islands in the Caribbean without an issue. Regarding your Discover card, I know in numerous spots outside the USA they do not accept the card. Saint Thomas should not be an issue but St. Maarten might be a different story. I stopped carrying mine when I travel outside the US several years ago. One suggestion when you us a credit card outside the US, and the Country has their own currency (like the Euro, Pound….), the establishment may ask you if you want the charge to be made in US dollars. My suggestion is to tell them you want the charge to be in the local currency. If you keep it in the local currency, your bank will make the conversion for you at the current exchange rate when the charge is processed. And if your card doesn’t charge a foreign transaction fee, you’re all good! If you have the charge made in dollars, a third party makes the convention to dollars and charges a fee for the service. For years I’ve always kept my charges in the local currency and never had an issue. Safe travels and have fun. ChessE4
