AngelSurfer
Hi all, First time posting here. I will be crusing on Spectrum of the Seas in 2023 and was wondering if there are any differences between Teppanyaki and Izumi Hibachi? Saw some videos from Matt and noticed that it was mainly referred to as Izumi Hibachi, so I am not sure if it is the same thing or not. Thank! CGTLH
Same concept, different names. I do think on Spectrum the teppanyaki restaurant has some different offerings. My hunch with the naming convention has more to do when Izumi has both sushi seating and hibachi seating within the same restaurant. CruisingNewb
Although the two terms have different definitions in Japan, they are interchangeable as a result of Western bastardization (I DO NOT MEAN THIS IN A BAD WAY). Hibachi = small fire pit for grilling Teppanyaki = heated flat steel surface for quick saute Its like saying sushi is raw fish, when in fact it means flavored rice nuggets with some type of garnish on top. For instance, sushi and sashimi are different but most people just say sushi to refer to any Japanese influenced raw fish dish. Simply put, to us lay people, teppanyaki and hibachi are the same. AngelSurfer
Thanks! Good to know. May want to take up some form of dining package (if possible) for Chops, Izumi Sushi and Teppanyaki.
AngelSurfer
One more follow up question if I may, what are the numbers next to the online menu? The cruise planner is currently listing prices in SGD (~SGD 75) and I notice some numbers next to the some of the menu items like "Samurai" has a $45 next to it. So I am wondering what am paying for in total? Or how is the cost calculated?
