I'm also doing this exact itinerary but a month before you! From what I've read, the ports are walkable enough in the city centers that an excursion is not totally necessary if you just want to wander around the historic city center. There are also beaches nearby which can be accessed through a taxi (or walking I think). I plan on spending most days exploring the towns, walking along the waterfront, eating a nice Mediterranean lunch, and maybe heading to a beach.

In Kotor, for example, I plan to walk around the historic town and then do a short hike to the Castle of San Giovanni for amazing views of the town/fjord.

However, if you want to do something specific or go to a particular part of the island, a tour might be a good idea. In Zakynthos there is a popular beach with a shipwreck on it that many tours go to. I saw some reasonable prices on RC's website for some of the ports, but you can also look at Viator or Tripadvisor for more ideas/tour options!

I will be writing a live blog of this exact itinerary on the Royal Caribbean Blog website during my trip, so you can always gather ideas there too. 🙂

Thank  you so much for your blogs!  We are going on the exact cruise, departing on July 25.   Your blogs have had so much information!   Not only did I read every one but I've printed them out to re-read them on the long flight to Athens.

@Matt - Should her blogs be moved to the "Live Blogs" section?

We are booked on brilliance of the seas departing 10 July 2022. We arriving at Venice airport at 10.30am and need transfers to Ravenna port. Is there anyone willing to share a ride as it’s very expensive for just two. Thanks.

Yes, it is a bit pricey.  We are doing the opposite - arriving Ravenna on 1-Aug and booked a ride from Ravenna to Venice using MyDayTrip.  I'm hoping to meet a couple on our cruise to share the cost.

Maybe, there's a meet-n-great message board for your cruise and you can see if anyone on your cruise also needs a ride.

Hi our transfer has been cancelled yet again,do to lack of availability,  so if anyone has any suggestions of companies to try please can you let me know.

    Thanks

    Hi Victoria,

Did you try MyDayTrip?  That's where I booked ours.

Hello! We are a young couple doing the same cruise on Rhapsody starting July 25th. We have booked a hotel in Venice and will be staying for one night before returning home. Our hotel is located just opposite St. Lucia station, as our plan was taking the train from Ravenna. However, if anyone is willing to share a ride for a reasonable price, we’d be interested!

    HI Clara,

We are also flying out of Venice on August 2nd.  We (3 adults) have already booked a van with MyDayTrip that holds 7 people.   We are staying in HotelPark Annia which I believe is near the Venice airport.  I'd love to share the van with you.  We already paid 326 Euros which was charged to my credit card as $353.91 USD which would work out to $70.78 USD per person (based on 5 people) plus any tip.  If you are interested in riding with us, email me directly using my RCB username (Baltodave) at gmail dot com.   Also, we have Voom internet on the ship so you can email there as well (but I'd rather have this arranged ahead of time).

Few more things, just to give you an idea:  The 3 of us are my wife and I (early 60s) and her daughter (early 30s).  We are supposed to meet the driver at 9am so that should put us in Venice by around lunch time.

    Hope to hear from you!

    Hi dave

Thanks for getting in touch,  its very kind of you. r u sure you will be able to get all 7 people in with cases? Also r u going straight to venice  or you going sight seeing? what would the cost be too, sorry for all the questions 😊 many thanks Victoria

    Hi Victoria,

We are taking the van to the Parkhotel Annia which is near the Venice Airport.  I'm sure the driver would make another stop where you are staying.

I have not heard back from my contact at MyDayTrip to see if there will be room.

If there is room, I already paid 326 Euros which was charged to my credit card as $353.91 USD which would work out to $50.56 per person if we can get 7 in the van. I guess the best way to handle it would be use Paypal, Zelle or Venmo to me.  That being said, that does not include the tip for the driver.

Our stateroom on the ship is 4522 but that could change since I have a pending RoyalUp bid.  The best way to reach me would be via email which is my RCB username (Baltodave) at gmail dot com.

As soon as I hear back from MyDayTrip, I'll post it  here.

Hi we're trying to work out how to get from Ravenna to venice after our cruise finishes on 1st August we are a family of 4 adults and struggling to find a reasonable reliable company to take us to venice as we're staying over a night,  has anyone got any advice please 😊

It sounds like we're on the same cruise (Rhapsody ending in Ravenna on August 1st).  We are staying in a hotel near the Venice airport and flying out the next morning.  We (3 adults) reserved a van with MyDayTrip.  I will find out if we can fit 4 more adults.

If you have internet on the ship, my email is the same username as here (BaltoDave) At Gmail.

Hi, I'm also looking for people to share the cost of transport from Raveena Port to Venice on July 4th.  We are a family of 4.

That's just the reverse of what I'm doing.  We are traveling from Revenna to Venice on August 1st.  We (3 of us)  used MyDayTrip and booked a van.  It may not be least expensive but it seems convenient.  Good luck find another couple or family to ride with.

Hi @JennaRCB!  Have you gone on that cruise yet?  Ours is a month from now and wanted to see if you have any advice.

    Thanks!

Before we got our arrangements worked out, I looked at mydaytrip.com. They seemed to be the most reasonable, still not cheap, but.

Agreed. We originally booked a "MPV" van.  But recently got an email from them that a regular minivan (seats 7) would be the same cost so we were "upgraded".  I'm hoping to meet another couple on the trip that will take the van with us and share the cost.

  10. Our cruise is a little different.  We are taking Rhapsody from Athens to Ravenna and are flying home out of Venice the day after the cruise arrives in Ravenna.  So, we needed a ride from Ravenna to Venice and I booked it with MyDayTrip.com.   It's on August 1, 2022 so if anyone is on Rhapsody (7/25 - 8/1) and wants a ride to Venice, let me know.  We (3 adults) have a van booked so there is room for another couple.

I have not been to either of them, sorry.

One thing to consider is that if your layover is three hours (not sure if you're saying your layover is three hours, or you would be in the lounge for three hours), the amount of time you would actually have in the lounge is quite a bit shorter. Between needing to transfer gates, re-clear security, and be at your departure gate a certain amount of time ahead of your flight, that three hours can easily become 1.5. These pay lounges tend to be pretty basic, and while I am not in the business of telling other people how to spend their money, I personally think $43pp for 1.5 hours in a very basic lounge after a short flight (from Rome, Athens, Venice, not sure) may not be the best use of money. Just food for thought...and it'll probably be better than the food in the lounge 🙂

I believe our incoming flight (from Venice) and our outbound flight are both in terminal 5.  Also, there are 6 hours (scheduled) from when our inbound flight arrives at its gate and our outbound flight departs its gate.  So, I figured 3 hours in a lounge might be okay.  If we are staying within terminal 5, do we need to go through security?

  12. This isn't really a RCL question but thought I'd ask anyway....

We have some time to kill at Heathrow after our Greek/Adriatic cruise and I'm considering purchasing admission to one of the lounges in terminal 5 of Heathrow.  There are 2 lounges: "Club Aspire" and "Plaza Premium".  We don't have AMEX cards so we need to buy the admission (about $43 pp for 3 hours).

Does anyone here have any thoughts/opinions of them?

I think it depends on ship and length of cruise if it's pay one price bag or individually priced pieces. But see if this helps.

Thanks.  That's a great video.  I also read somewhere to bring some tape to secure the top of the bag so nothing falls out.  Also, I was under the impression the bag was plastic but in that video, it appears to be paper.

Found these images on another thread.  I am not sure if the prices are the latest...

Thanks but that's not what I was looking for.  I understand that most (if not all) RC ships offer a "Wash and Fold" service for around $35 USD where you can stuff as many items (socks, underwear, t-shirts, etc..) in the bag for the fixed price.

  15. I apologize if this has already been asked.

What is the size of the plastic bag used for the "Wash & Fold" service?  I'm asking because I read somewhere that a good "hack" is to put a paper bag inside so you don't rip the plastic bag (and want to know what size paper bag to bring).

    Thanks!

When my son's flights got re-arranged by the carrier last week, he was able to call Air2Sea on day of travel and get a new connecting flight.  Have you been able to reach Air2Sea by phone?

Yes, after being on hold with them for over 20 minutes, they told me that since the flight is over 30 days away to try again in a few days.  The crazy thing is that we also requested a change with our outbound flight (on AA) and it was taken care of in less than 12 hours.  I first contacted Air2Sea 2.5 weeks ago when I learned that our original flight was cancelled.

  17. I agree that Air2Sea is terrible.  We are taking Rhapsody OTS from Athens to Ravenna July 25 thru August 1.  We booked our flights (with the help of our wonderful MEI agent) through Air2Sea.  We are having a problem with the return on August 2.  We were originally scheduled to fly from Venice (VCE) to Baltimore (BWI) with a connection at London Heathrow (LHR).  The problem is that British Airways cancelled the VCE-LHR flight and we were switched to a VCE->London Gatwick (LGW) flight and no way to get from LGW to LHR (that connection is only 3 hours; not enough).  There's an earlier VCE-LHR flight that we want to switch to but Air2Sea keeps putting me off because it's more than 30 days out.

I also have called BA but they say that since the flight was booked through a 3rd party (Air2Sea), they won't do anything.

    What a CF!

If you are only coming in for one night, not looking to do any real sightseeing, just relaxing...Stay in San Pedro.

    Only two hotels I recommend:

Crowne Plaza or Doubletree.  I've stayed in both before recent cruises.

Doubletree is off in a quiet part of town, downchannel from the port at the yacht marina--nice hotel, picturesque environment...but a little distant from most restaurants (Only the 22nd Street Landing--Seafood is within walking distance) and from the port.  But the hotel will shuttle you for free to both the port and to restaurants in the Downtown San Pedro area.

Crowne Plaza is in the heart of Downtown San Pedro...only about a three block walk to the cruise terminal...but they will also shuttle you to the pier for $5 pp.  A large number of restaurant choices within two blocks of the hotel (We usually end up eating at the San Pedro Brewing Company and/or the Green Onion--both less than a block from the hotel).

Thanks!  Actually, we'll be in Culver City for a wedding with most of the wedding guests leaving Sunday afternoon.  The cruise leaves on Monday so we're looking to switch hotels to be a bit closer to the cruise terminal.

  20. Hi Everyone,

We (3 adults) are taking Rhapsody July 25 - August 1 with 3 stops in Greece (Mykonos, Crete and Zakynthos), 1 stop in Kotor, Montenegro and 1 stop in Split, Croatia. The cruise ends in Ravenna, Italy and I've already arranged a ride to Venice (BTW, we have room if anyone wants to join us there).

We've done plenty of cruises in the Caribbean but we are newbies when it comes to Europe.  Does anyone have ideas/hints for excursions?  Should we stick with RC's excursions (which tend to be pricey) or are there plenty of 3rd-party options (either in advance or at the ports)?

    Thanks!

If you’re trying to go from VCE (Venice Airport) to the Ravenna port, try this:

*Book a one-way rental using Hertz, Avis, or Bugdet. The drive from VCE to one of the aforementioned rental car agencies is about 2 hours. Must drop off at Ravenna on a day other than Sunday, because all three rental companies are closed on Sundays in Ravenna. (So, if your cruise departs on Sunday, drop your car off on Saturday, and plan on staying the night in Ravenna).

*Even with the one-way car rental drop off fee - renting a car and driving to Ravenna is still cheaper than many options listed in this blog. And if you’re a savvy traveler, visit Flyertalk.com, and look for discount corporate codes that eliminate one-way fees to make your one-way rental from VCE to Ravenna even cheaper!

*Returning to VCE from Ravenna is a little trickier, as you’d have to stay in Ravenna an entire day upon your return on Sunday to rent a car on Monday.

Actually, our cruise ends in Ravenna and I've already booked a ride with MyDayTrip (a mini-van) to go from Ravenna to Venice.  Our flight home leaves the next day from Venice.  We (3 adults) are hoping to meet a couple on the cruise who would want to split the ride with us.  If anyone is interested we are on Rhapsody July 25 - August 1 and  our ride is after we get off the ship in Ravenna on August 1.
