My 7 year old son saw some people climbing the rock wall on a recent cruise, and has become fixated on it. His summertime daycare is at a local YMCA where he has been practicing rock wall climbing, and he announced last night that he wants to do in onboard our next cruise. Does anyone know the age or height policy for climbing onboard?
Your son will be all set. Just need to sign the waiver and be present every time he wants to do it. I suggest to show up early for the sign up as it can get busy.

The Starbucks on the Explorer was very limited.
Hot and Ice coffee, latte, cappuccino, mocha.
3 kinds of Frapuccino's
Some teas.
I think that is about it.....

I always take my hair straightener and no problem.
I just did on my last cruise 3 weeks ago. The ship does have a hair dryer so no need to bring one.

Is there a list of what RC has for the non alcoholic cocktails? Trying to decide if we should purchase the basic $20 for my husband.
RCI have about 3-5 non alcoholic drinks.

I really like the Explorer.
I really dislike the Explorer.

Yea I find that the bigger newer ships are much better! I have been on 18 Royal Caribbean cruises and two weeks ago I just came back from one of their old boats Vision of the Seas. I have decided I will never go on such an old boat again. It was just to boring and not enough to do but i do recommend Freedom class ships, oasis class ships, and Quantum looks like it will be amazing!
Oh, good! Someone else feels the same (I though it was me) ... The ship it self is well taking care of, clean and beautiful. The decoration was also fantastic but with 4 days at sea we were really bored.
I won't even talk about the food since it was such a disappoint as well. More reason to think that ships with more places to eat would have better food.
-
I suggest you try Oasis or Allure out of Ft. Lauderdale. Those are my two favorites and i found they play a variety of music and there is so much to do and so many places to eat and hang out that the music is not even the main focus.
Thanks for the suggestion...I found our ship lacking of things to do so the music got to me.
That is why I was wondering about other ships. I think the bigger ships are better for some many reasons.
I will consider Oasis or Allure!

Yikes! Then I will add it to my list of "maybe not this ship"
What about the ships that sail from Port Canaveral or Miami?...do you know?

If someone is taking the time to drag chairs and umbrellas for me in the heat, the least I can do is toss him a few dollars. Just my thought
Ok, so you are taking this the wrong way....of course the person deserve a tip for dragging the chair for me and everyone that is there.
You totally miss the point.
And yes, we ALL tip the guy, all 8 of us!M don't worry about it.

I felt so bad being at Labadee.... I felt awful.... I could see the little houses on the mountains and little kids running around, and here we were on THEIR island but not really able to embrace their culture.
I was able to walk around Bermuda, St. Marteen, Puerto Rico and the people I talked to were super nice everywhere. Not the case there :(
-
I found it very annoying to listen to the same 70's music all the time.... Around the ship, at Windjammer and at Promenade. Same songs all day long.
They even had a 70's show/parade one night.
I was told that they do this because of the place that is sails from, they cater to that kind of people, but not everyone is from NJ!!
-
That is right. If you're going to Labadee, expect to pretty much tip for everything.
I found ridiculous the fact that you have to tip for almost everything on Labadee..... If this is their private place, why do I have to tip? Plus the chairs were set up almost on top of each other's, barley any room on this place.
Beautiful place but packed!

I can only speak for the Explorer and the shows there were terrible!
We had singers and dancers and they were good but the shows had no storyline at all (all 3 of them) the magician was good and 1 of the comedian was ok.
But I hope the shows on other ships are better than this ones because they were a waste of time....

2 bottles per stateroom ....right? Not per person...

Good idea!!

No, you don't need to carry your cup around. You can always get fountain soda from any bar or restaurant onboard simply by showing your SeaPass card that will have a sticker/embossed logo showing that you have the package.
Explorer of the Seas does have the Coca-Cola Freestyle machines. To use them, you do have to use the provided cup, though, as there is a chip in them that activates the Freestyle machines.
Thanks so much for the info. It makes it so much easier knowing what to plan for!!

If I get the soda package, do I need to carry the Coca-Cola cup to get soda?...
Also on the Explorer of the Sea, do they have those nice cool looking machines ??
How do you get the soda.... Is there a CM there all the time? Does my kid need to carry his Sea card?

Hey, just saw the news that RCI will partner with Coca-Cola to present the World Cup at sea!!!
I am very happy now, since it is official.

Do they have Shrimp with cocktail sauce??... My kids love to eat that on our Disney cruise and I know that they will be looking for it!! I can't wait to eat at the Windjammer as it is our tradition to go have lunch as soon as we board!
-
Yes, it will make you drowsy after a few hours. Not fall down in the middle of the hallway sleepy, but "I really need a nap" drowsy. But I'd rather be sleepy than nauseous
Thanks, I will probably bring some of that as well. I just rather be prepare and yes better be sleepy than nauseous!!
Do you know if the Medic on RCI works the same way as Disney? Meaning, you are not covered and it will cost you as much as the cruise is you have to visit them? ....lol (luckily, when I got so sick, they didn't charge me. But I think I got more sick thinking about the charge)!!!
-
That is wonderful, glad to hear it worked out!
Let me know how the ginger works. I've heard about it but always relied on bonine for if I need something.
Matt, does the Bonine make you sleepy? I have the Sea Bandz (sp) because I rather not take "medicine" and I don't want to feel sleepy either. But last time I really have to use the Bandz ...well actually I was on a few meds since I got really sick and was taking to the Medic. "Not fun"!!... This time around, I am bringing everythignI can think off.

I saw a lot of people using walkies and they said they worked fine but you need to get good quality ones. We use sticky notes (post-it) on the mirror when trying to get a message to our boys.
