  1. In museums, the bathrooms are definitely gendered, but in small restaurants, it’s possible to have one bathroom for both genders or perhaps a couple of stalls and communal hand washing area for both genders. There are a lot of cool things in Europe, like great train service and food quality, but bathrooms are not a strong point IMHO, but definitely okay.
  2. This is good advice. Definitely no attendants at the bathrooms making change. And you'll need exact change to enter. I've mostly seen €1 fees. But I've never actually paid to use a bathroom in Rome and I've been there a couple of dozen times. I generally make sure I go the bathroom prior to leaving the hotel. Will use the bathroom at wherever we stop for lunch (a couple of times during lunch), use the bathrooms at museums, and if I had to go the bathroom and was at the train station, I would just wait until I was on the train and use the free toilet on the train. I think that the only time I actually paid was in a small town in Umbria and the folks in our party weren't ready for lunch and there was no museum, etc. so we paid to use a filthy restroom that wasn't supplied.
  3. Wow! How exciting for you! It's our first cruise in about 30 years, and I was about your age my last cruise. I think a lot has changed in 30 years in the cruise line industry. I think the cruise ship I was on last was about 1/3 the size of Odyssey, so I'm really looking forward to exploring the ship and making the voyage across the Atlantic. Back then many cruises had a midnight buffet, which I think died a slow death. I really didn't each much on the buffet, it was just something to do at midnight and a spectacle. Is there anything you're particularly looking forward to?
  4. We're booked for this TA and I'm planning on doing a "live from" thread with photos, weather conditions, dinning experiences, what we do, etc., I'll post a link on this thread.
  5. This is kind of how Starbucks makes Iced Lattes, except that Starbucks starts with espresso, then adds milk, then tops off with ice. The cold milk will cool down the espresso and the fact that espresso is stronger than coffee a little melting of ice usually isn't a big deal. I watched hundreds if not thousands of iced lattes made this way. I usually asked for an extra shot of espresso (4 in total) in a venti iced latte. I've never seen Starbucks start with cold espresso or coffee. Now, at a large grocery store chain in the Northeast, in their coffee bar, when I get a latte they start with cold espresso. Those are the best, nice and cold and strong, no need for an extra shot. I agree 100% agree with OCSC Mike that hot coffee over ice is not good.
  6. Yes, thank you! Our plan (at the current time) is to carry our bags onto the cruise and will just put in a couple of six-packs in our carry on luggage. That will leave us some room for souvenirs. But if we change our minds and decide to check our luggage, I'll have to remember no soda in the checked luggage. Thanks again!
  7. Thanks! I think it's a great idea to bring on the 12 cans. I was hoping to avoid carrying more onto the ship, and since purchasing the DBP thought we could use the space in our luggage for other stuff, rather than soda, but we can make room. Just wondering if you can bring on soda cans that you purchase at a port?
  8. I definitely wasn't planning on asking for multiple cans at the same time and not looking to share the package. It's only me and my girlfriend traveling and we will both be on the deluxe package. She doesn't drink much alcohol, but drinks A LOT of soda, and like me, she'd prefer a can of soda rather than fountain soda. When I told her that on the deluxe package that you could get cans that made the difference. She says that she'll also try all the different specialty cocktails at the various venues just to taste them. I'm thinking if any good, I'll probably end up finishing the leftovers. I was just looking for way to have a couple of cans in the room for the mornings before we make our way out and about. I had a feeling that the unopened can request might be an issue. I'll keep our expectations low and hope for the best. It's really just for in the room. It's just two of us traveling and we'll both be on the DBP, but I guess if we ordered the soda via room service that there would be a charge even on the DBP. I told my girlfriend if we can't get cans for the rooms, I'll run out to a bar in the morning and get one for her. I'm not paying $3.50 for a can of soda via room service after paying for the DBP, not gonna happen.
  9. Yes, even though we're less than a year now (287 days as of today) it still seems like a long time away. Hopefully time will fly by. We're from Florida too, Palm Beach County.
  10. Thanks! Great to hear that canned soda is not a problem. I really hate fountain soda too, most of the time what comes out of those machine just doesn't taste right to me. I was recently in a Five Guys and used the freestyle machine and really didn't like it so much. Have you had luck getting the cans "to go"? It would be nice to have some cans in the stateroom fridge if we needed in the early morning. Thanks again.
  11. Good morning, I've been doing a little bit of research on the Deluxe Beverage Package and from what I read it sounds like with the deluxe package you can get canned soda. We much prefer canned soda over fountain soda or the free style machines. Just wondering, if you ask, if the bartenders or waitstaff will give you a closed can of soda that you could bring back to your room for consumption later. Or there is a place on the Odyssey that you can pick up cans of soda on the deluxe package. We're in a junior suite, so no access to the suite lounge or any other suite areas that come with Diamond or other status.
