Another option is taking the Island Explorer bus. It stops in Bar Harbor and goes into the park. I believe it's free, but you need park passes. We've also rented bikes from Bar Harbor and rode to the carriage roads.

Snorkeling excursion for someone who can't swim?
purplelupines replied to purplelupines's topic in Shore Excursions
Thanks for the replies! We'll have to do a little research on the location of the snorkeling. I think snorkeling closer to the shore would be best. -
My husband can only float on his back. We've been snorkeling before in Hawaii on our own, and my husband wore a life jacket. For the excursions in St. Thomas or St. Maarten, would he be able to snorkel if he can only float? Do they provide floatation devices?

Freeport and Bar Harbor restaurant suggestions
purplelupines replied to RCIfan1912's topic in Shore Excursions
For Freeport I would recommend Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro. It's practically just across the street from L.L.Bean. The restaurant group also has well-received restaurants in Yarmouth and South Portland. It is less touristy than the other restaurants (the locals go here year round). For Bar Harbor, we've gone to West Street Cafe and it has something for everyone. However what I crave most from Bar Harbor is 2 Cats. It is more for breakfast or brunch though. I miss their biscuits and strawberry butter!
