  1. It’s simple. The big, new ships are directly made for and marketed to families and young adults. They are simply amusement parks on water. The amenities aren’t intended for older people. Therefore you are going to be disappointed and feel left out. I’m no cruise line genius but id have to imagine its a lot more profitable getting a family of 5 with young kids on board rather than 2 old people. Families and kids will spend money on extras. Older people are generally conservative. There’s a reason why Icon has been marketed as the “ultimate family vacation.” Nowhere does it say cruise and that’s on purpose. With that said, I saw an article recently that said the average age of cruisers has come way down. So the efforts the cruise lines are making are clearly working.
  2. You can pay for childcare. It was $7/hr last summer. You have to make a reservation for the time slots you want when onboard. There’s a very small splash area for babies/young toddlers that mine loved. The bigger splash area and main pools is for toilet trained kids only. We went into hot tubs several times and held our baby without being bothered. Other than that you’re kinda on your own. as others mentioned there’s a carousel and there’s also a small indoor “playground” they can climb and run around.
  3. Since when do they allow only 1 person to get the alcohol package? It’s always been required for both adults in the room to get it or neither.
  4. Now what I’m running into while looking for a last minute cruise this July or August is every search is returning with the error, “no rooms available for 3 people”. I have 2 adults and 1 child. How can this be? And there’s no filter to add in guests so only available cruises are shown. I am left to click on every single date and try, only to get the same message
  5. Am I the only one who is annoyed that every time I go to the RC website I have to log in.. and then on top of that, after logging in and searching for a new cruise it doesn’t automatically load my crown and anchor number to the searches.. I don’t remember the number and copying/pasting doesn’t work because it goes in as a form of a link. It shouldn’t be this difficult. Or is it only me
  6. I’ll be very curious to hear how crowded and busy icon feels. Some of those new features will be in very high demand. Swim up bar, infinity pool. Etc. I fear it’s going to be so crazy that it’s not enjoyable. I’d be curious to see the initial reviews from Oasis as a comparison

  8. When adding the child to the room it no longer gave us a choice for the GTY. We had to select our location and cabin. But again, that doesn’t add up to nearly doubling the price. It seems like a major pricing scam and it’s turning me off to cruising. As I dealt with it on my most recent cruise as well but the jump wasn’t as significant.
  9. So I don’t understand why pricing changes so much when you add a child to a stateroom. Especially since there’s been a kids sail free promotion all year. Please see photos. This is for the same exact cruise with the same cabin type selected. The cruise nearly DOUBLES in price for adding a 2 year old child to the cabin. I don’t get it.
  10. I started this same thread a few weeks ago before my cruise. I was never asked to show my card at any time. The picture i uploaded on the app was all they needed. It could all depend on whoever checks you in but I wouldn’t worry if you have the picture and it all matches your other documents. Don’t listen to the people who tell you they demand a physical card, those same posters said that to me and it was not true.
  11. I don’t think you understand. When I say lines, I’m not talking about walking around looking for an open table. Im talking about their being 200 people in the hallways outside the elevator just waiting to get inside the windjammer…. Being held outside by staff. I will say the line moved rather reasonably but the chaos of it is very unpleasant.
  12. So true about cafe promenade. At least 3 times I went and then just continued to walk by because the line was 20+ deep and I wasn’t gonna waste more of my vacation time standing around.
  13. I’m not so sure that is it. The staff always seemed to be working incredibly hard and knowledgeable of their tasks. I think it’s simply the boats have reached a point of being too big/crowded for their own good
  14. Not sure if this is the right place to post this. But I just returned from Oasis-OTS.. it was a little disappointing. The boat felt crowded. There were long lines for the main dining room every night, the 2nd day there was a huge line for breakfast at windjammer. Also was difficult to get chairs on the pool decks sometimes. People everywhere in the walkways on the pool decks. It’s not just the lines but it also felt chaotic. I don’t remember this on other cruises. I don’t want to complain too much, but this was my least favorite cruise. Have Also been on anthem, freedom and a competitor. I do want to say every single employee we encountered was beyond amazing, but I will be rethinking future cruises on the mega ships.
  15. Just wanted to follow up. At no point were we asked to show our physical cards or any type of proof for the covid vaccine either at the terminal or while on board/ re-entering after going into port. What we uploaded on the app prior to sailing was all they went by I suppose. So either every terminal is different or idk. Either way, a lot of worrying for nothing.
  16. Anybody know what this is? Each person in my reservation received $23.56 off our final bill for a 7 night cruise.
  17. Thank you, that is exactly what I have. And to me it is 1000 times more legitimate than a card.
  18. Yeah I’ll try, there’s no information or standard for any of this. My point is, the app from the state that shows the official document is more trustworthy than a card that is handwritten and easily faked. the app should be more valuable/reliable to cruise lines / airlines than a card…. I call RC and the person I talk to clearly guesses their answer on the subject.
  19. Because I don’t have the card…. I have the official state document via their app that shows all information
  20. Has anybody used the docket app to show their proof of vaccine at the terminal prior to boarding? or can you should a picture of your card from your phone? I’ve read they only accept the physical card, I find that hard to believe. leaving port liberty next Friday.
  21. $60 seems to be about my break even as well. Just have no idea where prices are going nowadays or if waiting till onboard they’re may be one final best offer. at the current offering I’d rather go a la carte and not force myself to drink on days 6,7, just because I have the package. might be a better option, we’ll see.
  22. Yes I’m sure this has been beaten to death here but I don’t have time to search. It seems the drink packages have gone way up in price. When I first cruised on Anthem in 2015 we got the adult beverage package for about $45 or so pp/pd. My Oasis cruise in July was $70 at booking, then $66, now $73 pp/pd. At these prices I am going to go a la carte for drinks. Does anybody have recent experience with getting a better deal than this beforehand or with a special deal while boarding? Just wondering if I should stop checking. FYI, it’s a 7 nighter from Cape Liberty. Thanks
