  1. There's another thread going about this - My personal guess is that there are going to be small water slides for kids, but not the same type of large slides that are on other ships or like what was just placed on Liberty of the Seas.

You are probably right on that.  My two oldest Grandsons (20 & 18) won't care if they can't have big slides anyway.  But my two Granddaughters (10 & 8) will be excited.

  2. My son-n-law called RCI checking something on our sailing.  He told them that we were disappointed in not having the waterslides and DreamWorks for the kids.  They told him that the waterslides will be there but not DreamWorks.  I just now pulled up RCI MOS on the website and sure enough - there are pictures of the waterslides and next to the picture is says "NEW Splashaway Bay Aqua Park."

I'm not going to tell the Grands about this just in case they aren't there.  I hope they are and let them be total surprised.

  3. No it does not include "bottled" water but if there is a free-style machine you can get poweraid and lemonades.

Do the free-style machines have just plain (un-bottled) water?  The Coke free-style machines here at home have it.  My 8 YO granddaughter usually only drinks water.  There is no way she will drink even an entire bottle of water in one sitting.

  4. Junior suite guests get:

Priority boarding in the suite line

    Double crown & anchor points

    Bath robes

    Upgraded bathroom products

    Tea and coffee in cabin

    Silver SeaPass card

    Real suite

I think the biggest thing is access to the consierge services and lounge. Free hors d'oeuvre and free drinks every night before dinner and help planning excursions, dinner reservations, show reservations, etc. If we have missed something or gotten closed out of an excursion or show, the consierge can usually make it happen for suite guests.

Also dedicated pool deck seating on some ships

Free pressing of clothing for first formal night.

Nightly free something in your state room. Cookies, strawberries, etc

    Fruit basket the first day

I was just asking about Jr Suites!  I should have looked further before I posted my question.  Thanks for the information as I feel that it will be totally worth it!

  5. We are currently booked on the Majesty for August 1st; however, we are having to change to July 18th sailing due to son-n-law's job (he just got a promotion and they have him traveling then).  We were thinking of getting Jr Suites instead of the large oceanview cabins.  When my son-n-law called RCI, they said only 3 to a cabin.  I wonder why as it is suppose to be bigger....

Is the price difference worth it from the large oceanview?

  6. I was going to ask about the bottled water also.  My 7 year old Granddaughter only drinks water and the occasional sweet tea.  There is no way she can drink that much water to get her monies worth so I guess we will just pay as we go for her.  I'm tempted to bring a small package of 8-oz waters in her carry on.

  7. I get motion sick somewhat so I just take a "Bonnie" brand of motion sickness medicine at bedtime.  Only take it once a day and it lasts 24 hours.  It makes me a little sleepy so taking it at bedtime is not an issue.  I usually take one the night before I cruise so that I have it in my system.  Using this method, I have never gotten motion sick and was able to enjoy every minute of my cruising vacations.

  8. I can't speak to RCCL specific options in Alaska, but I do have a few points to share based on our recent experience.

We did Alaska on Oceania in May.  SF, Astoria, Sitka, Hubbard Glacier, Ketchikan, Juneau, Victoria, Vancouver.  Fantastic trip in every way.  After many cruises this was our first time doing Alaska and we'll certainly go back.

One consideration though is that many of the Alaskan ports of call are very small towns, so along with all the other things you account for in picking a ship/itinerary/schedule, I'd look at a site like www.cruisett.com and see how many passengers are scheduled to be in a port on a given day.  Ketchikan may be a lovely stop to spend time in when there are 4k pax, but when there are 10k pax it could be like Main Street in the Magic Kingdom on Christmas day (or Times Square on New Year's Eve - as my wife points out this is a more universal reference to *insanely crowded*)

Also, while I usually consider a verandah a 'nice to have' but make the decision based on price, for Alaska it should be a priority.  If you're on a larger ship the open decks could get a bit busy when cruising past glaciers, fjords, and small towns.  Even if on a smaller ship though there will be hours you'll just want to sit and relax as you watch the sights go by.  We spent more time on our verandah on the Alaska trip than all of our other sailings combined.

Thanks for this information.  I'm sure it will come in handy for us.  We are considering an Alaska cruise in 2017.  Did you see any of the Northern Lights while there?
