I think you’re right unfortunately. Royal Caribbean will become more of a mass market cheaper brand with the big ships. Where celebrity will have smaller more expensive ships to run with a premium price.

Yeah politics or tribal customs but it seems to me ,that in the first paragraph it says Ovation will be visiting Lelepa in the coming months. They could use the overnights in Vila to do a day in Lelepa then a day in Vila.

Noumea,Tauranga,Picton, Sydney,Eden,Hobart. Im currently on Ovation in Vila,which is the main town of Vanuatu,just around the corner from Lelepa. Ovation is to big to get into the port and it’s anchored in the bay overnight. It a lovely place but we have to tender,bit of a hassle. If it made any sense,Royal should get together with Carnival and some foreign aid group and build a decent wharf here.

So believe only half of what you see but nothing you hear at the captain’s corner.

I know,the hotel manager seemed to be answering most of the questions when the captain was lost for words. But it would be good,something like celebrity edge or smaller. Fantastic for world cruises and they could get rid of some old junk. And what made it a bit believable was he seemed confident and mentioned hydrogen but then wasn’t icon supposed to have that.

Wouldn’t it be good. I thought one of the gurus he could confirm it.

I was just at the Captain’s corner on Ovation and someone asked about building smaller ships. The Captain said Royal Caribbean is in the planning stage of a new class of ship. Something between Radiance and Voyager. Has anyone heard of this?

I think the biggest drawback at the moment is a home port. Brisbane is turning out to be unpopular,Circular quay’s terminal couldn’t handle the 6,000 passengers. Sydney needs a new cruise terminal. Legislation has just been passed to allow a major upgrade of New Castle container terminal. That should allow a berth in port botany for a cruise ship that could quite easily take a oasis. Port botany isn’t the most beautiful place but that’s all we have.

If and when we get a oasis it would be split between Sydney and Singapore. Probaly it would be deployed in Singapore from March to September and Spectrum would be bumped to Asia,more than likely Tokyo. Spectrum is doing a couple of cruises to Tokyo and apparently they are selling extremely well.

At the C&A event today the captain said that RC has decided our ports are to underdeveloped for a oasis class. So it’s going to be some time he said. Apparently even mystery island is out of action as the jetty is in disrepair.

Royal is back in Sydney. This is probably the closest we will get to a oasis class in Sydney.

I think our tugs are government,Im not a 100% . In Sydney I believe they are part of transport for N.S.W.

I don’t think we will be seeing a oasis in our area for a long time. Lelepa ,it seems that it’s wheels have fallen off and most of Asia is in lock down. There just isn’t the market for one.

Good things never last. I remember one season my daughter got all these iMessages on her Apple phone in the middle of the Tasman sea from her friends in Australia. I asked how she is doing that without the internet package.She said she didn’t know but it works.

twangster, a few years ago you could iMessage a friend who had another Apple device without the internet package. Can you still do that or have they blocked it?

I have a few cruises over Christmas but that’s the only one with activities.

I know they are charging for onboard activities.

So how does a overnight tender port ,do they cut it off about 9:00 ? Most Ozzie’s would be getting their second wind about then.

It probably is a agreement in the lease to have so many visits to vanuatu. But tendering at night is going to be a bit risky especially if people have been sampling the local nightlife heavily. Probably have people put life jackets on after dark.

So I have a bit of a mystery that has me baffled. Im on a cruise in a couple of weeks which has a overnight in Port Vila on Ovation. I just found out Quantum class can’t dock and it’s going to be a tender. It’s going to be a nightmare tendering overnight in Vila. Plus as anyone who has been there knows the wharf there is a #hit fight. Why would Royal do that? Now I have just counted 8 overnights with Quantum and Ovation in Port Vila this season plus about the same single day visits. Why wouldn’t they do the overnights in Noumea where they can dock? Here’s the itinerary, I hope it’s a mistake.

I was just looking at my invoice and itinerary from my agent and it says Ovation can’t dock at Vila, it has to tender. That rules out a Oasis class docking in Vila.
