  1. I actually always book this room on the freedom class ships - I love looking down at the people and really like the locations we have always gotten

AND the key is too just draw the curtains when you are inside and want privacy, otherwise I am right in the window looking out

We have also taken Poster board and made sign and stuck it in the window for others to read and to help with privacy

Any photos of the room Michelle?  And what do you write on the poster board sign?

  3. Another thing you can always do is call the cruise line - while they may not lower your rates, they do have the ability to upgrade you to a room sometimes that is At the Current cost you are paying.   So if you paid $600 for an oceanview but now that is what the balconies are selling at, ask for them to move you into one.   based on availability again and within a few weeks of sailing but have done this many times.

    Great advice Michelle!

  4. We are going on the Explorer of the Seas, sailing from NJ and we are saving on airline tickets..... A friend convinces us on going with them. But after doing the research, I notice that this is an old and bit small ship and doesn't have as many great things as other RCI ships. So like I said, not sure that we are measuring apples with apples, but I don't know.... Never sailed with RCI before and I really hope to have a great time since I much rather save on airline fairs.

These days the remaining RC ships that have not been refurbished do seem to me "different" than the ships that have been refurbished.  Explorer is still a great ship but I'm not sure for you it would be worth it to fly to some other port to take advantage of a refurbished ship.

There is Grandeur of the Seas in Baltimore.  Different class of ships but it has been refurbished and that is still driveable for you.

  5. I was trying to find out the restaurants at the Explorer of the Seas, so I can make some reservations since everyone's is talking about those awesome places....but I can only find 1 restaurant (besides the MDR) does anyone know if there is more than one or just Portofino is available at the Explorer???

Portofino & Johnny Rockets are the specialty restaurants onboard Explorer of the Seas currently.

  6. There seems to be a divided crowd, either some love Cats and the change, others are disappointed about not being able to see Hairspray. Personally, going with the family friendly theme, not sure how Cats fits into that. Not that is goes against a family friendly theme, but kids would get bored easily as it is not an upbeat type production. The costumes are strange and so is the plot. I personally thought Chicago was a weird pick for Allure, again, not exactly family friendly.

My wife is a Broadway junkie but not a Cats fan (she really doesn't like Andrew Lloyd Weber musicals) but that's personal taste. Obviously Cats' run on Broadway indicates it was a pretty popular show so I'm not too worried about its mass appeal factor.

If you don't love Cats, at least take solace in Royal Caribbean actively changing things up and not being accused of not offering enough variety.  Considering we, the very frequent cruiser, are always looking for what's next, it's good to have changes and something different to experience.

  8. Someone earlier had mentioned that maybe you could book a specific sailing (to get the OBC), and then reschedule it over and over further and further out. Then, someone chimed in and said that you would sacrifice your OBC by doing that.

I spoke with Cynthia from the RC executive office yesterday and very directly clarified this. AS LONG AS the ship that you "reschedule" or rebook on is the same duration of sailing and the same category of stateroom, you will get the same OBC as you originally got. Just something to be aware of.

    Thanks for the info Bryce!

  9. I'm curious since you mention disembarkation as one of the things Disney does better.  I've only sailed DCL so far, so how does Royal Caribbean do it different?

In Port Canaveral there is no "wait for your number" thing.  DCL has some special thing with the port where you can get off anytime.

Granted it's been some years since I've cruised with DCL but I remember being very impressed by that compared to RCL, which always seems to take a while.
