Pay on board or before departing currency benefits

Recommended Posts

Hi I am going on the Oasis in September from Barcelona. I usually pre pay my drinks package upfront before I leave home. Being a UK cruiser and with the pound being stronger against the dollar am I better to buy my packages on board and get the benefit of the strong pound as I will pay my bill in dollars?

Thanks

David.

If you think there will be a major difference between now and September in currency evaluations, sure you might save money.  But like you said, paying in advance allows you to break up the overall cost of the cruise.

Hi! Fellow uk passenger here and after seeing your post had a little panic about me prepaying the packages but had a check and thankfully pre-paying seems to be fine. In the US the ultimate package $65 which is £37.90 at current exchange rates. If you actually calculate what you can but dollars at it works out to £38.79.

Buying the drinks package before on the UK site is £38.85 so this is fine you are losing out.

Also I've been researching and it looks like the dollar is going to start strengthening soon too so it should only work out to be a a better deal as we go along.

I'm actually gonna get my spending money this week I think as could end up with a few dollars more than in a months time

Hi thanks for the replies. I know that the likes of the ultimate package is $65 and that does not change often. A few months ago the £ was approx £1.60. It is now closer to £1.70 compared to the dollar. Do Royal Caribbean adjust their UK pricing on their website to allow for the fluctuation of the dollar?

Ebonyandirvory where you cruising and on what ship?

Not sure if they fluctuate - imaging they would otherwise it would be very unfair

We're going on Navigator of the Seas Western Caribbean in August. First ever cruise.....so excited!
