It could also be related to the difficulty in obtaining US passports in a timely manner. Mine expired during COVID when I had no current or near future plans to travel. My renewal application was received on 5/10 with a posted 10-13 week processing time. Apparently they are overloaded and receive upwards of 400,000 passport applications per week.

I would greatly appreciate input from board members who have relevant experience or have encountered similar situations. Your guidance would be invaluable.
