  1. There’s nothing wrong with a smaller ship . I don’t think Brisbane is selling nowhere near Sydney but I believe Quantum will stay there to service the private island.
  2. But as said the smaller ships are getting to their use by date and Royal is always going to need a class of ships to go through the Panama Canal for Alaska ,And also smaller ports around the world. Also I can see size restrictions in some places like the N.Z. fiords ,we already have restrictions on some of our islands. If Royal limits it self to big ships ,it’s going to not be able to develop new markets in the future. Take ‘India ,one day could be a potential boom market and they can’t really feel out the market with a oasis.
  3. The paint would be worth that ,I wonder if the do something with the half build one.
  4. `Discovery class ‘ is the name, so rumour goes
  5. A new cruise terminal for Sydney will be a few years away. Apparently Sydney port authority is in discussion with the cruise lines to create a new birth for cruise ships in port botany. Where is the big question ,probably a temporary one in commercial docks and a then a new cruise terminal. But the more oasis capable ports the better. Something must be in motion because there’s a little town south of Sydney called Eden. N.S.W ports are upgrading it specifically to accommodate a Oasis class.
  6. I think the subject is Oasis class down under? Oasis could do the north island from Sydney and I think it would be a good itinerary. Sydney ,Auckland , Tauranga maybe Picton and up to Lelepa. Probably 10 nights but what a itinerary ,it would be the best of everything.
  7. Ovation had to hover in the middle of the river in Auckland and tender. A real pain. There was talk years ago of using the container terminal but like Sydney it was privately owned . I think by Patrick. So it seems Royal Caribbean has negotiated a deal to use the container terminal in Auckland. Hopefully with the legislation just past to upgrade Newcastle container movements . Royal might negotiate a deal to use Port Botany container terminal in Sydney. Oassis would quite easily fit into there but check in would have to be off site ,That would be the problem.
  8. I have friends who are currently on Ovation in N.Z. They just called ,they are docked in Auckland at the container terminal and apparently they where told, the container terminal can take a Oasis. There’s a shuttle bus into the city but they said must better that tendering. So one more Oasis port for down under.
  9. There would be a lot of backlash if they did something like that. We like Americans down here but we like being our self .
  10. With the itineraries both Ovation and Quantum have ,they could quite easily do a couple of surprise visits to Lelepa, that’s if they had wharf of some kind. Vila is nice but I don’t think it’s a suitable place for all the overnights they have this season. A short day on Lelepa and around the corner to Vila for the next day, it would be a good advertisement.
  11. From memory the island is very religious, I wonder how that’s go to go with alcohol ,bikinis and loud music. But from Royal’s side they want to bring in people with expertise from construction through to mixing drinks and the locals want to control it. I bet they are wishing the had outright ownership of the land.
  12. It sounds like there’s going to be a clash of cultures . Indigenous values opposed to a multinational corporation. But that’s the whole idea of the resort, bringing the world to experience the island.
  13. I think you’re right unfortunately. Royal Caribbean will become more of a mass market cheaper brand with the big ships. Where celebrity will have smaller more expensive ships to run with a premium price.
  14. Yeah politics or tribal customs but it seems to me ,that in the first paragraph it says Ovation will be visiting Lelepa in the coming months. They could use the overnights in Vila to do a day in Lelepa then a day in Vila.
  15. What do you make of this? Lelepa is going to be used next year? https://www.dailypost.vu/news/lelepa-chief-to-cruise-liner-visit-dependent-on-conditions/article_cedec975-e030-5d48-a64b-c7a235a2dc93.html
  16. I think Utopia will have something quirky, how about a Viking Crown bar?
  17. Noumea,Tauranga,Picton, Sydney,Eden,Hobart. Im currently on Ovation in Vila, which is the main town of Vanuatu, just around the corner from Lelepa. Ovation is to big to get into the port and it’s anchored in the bay overnight. It a lovely place but we have to tender, bit of a hassle. If it made any sense,Royal should get together with Carnival and some foreign aid group and build a decent wharf here.
  18. So believe only half of what you see but nothing you hear at the captain’s corner.
  19. I know, the hotel manager seemed to be answering most of the questions when the captain was lost for words. But it would be good, something like celebrity edge or smaller. Fantastic for world cruises and they could get rid of some old junk. And what made it a bit believable was he seemed confident and mentioned hydrogen but then wasn’t icon supposed to have that.
  20. Wouldn’t it be good. I thought one of the gurus he could confirm it.
  21. I was just at the Captain’s corner on Ovation and someone asked about building smaller ships. The Captain said Royal Caribbean is in the planning stage of a new class of ship. Something between Radiance and Voyager. Has anyone heard of this?
  22. I think the biggest drawback at the moment is a home port. Brisbane is turning out to be unpopular,Circular quay’s terminal couldn’t handle the 6,000 passengers. Sydney needs a new cruise terminal. Legislation has just been passed to allow a major upgrade of New Castle container terminal. That should allow a berth in port botany for a cruise ship that could quite easily take a oasis. Port botany isn’t the most beautiful place but that’s all we have.
