  1. So my question is, what is actually free in regards to food or anything liquid you consume? Is the tap water on the ship revolting? Should I even purchase the Evian bottled water? What food is actually free? (I'm aware there are specialty dining that are at additional cost) Is the captains dinner, fancy dining room free? I am purchasing the soda package, will i be charged for orange juice or black coffee in the morning during room service or on the main cafe? Sorry to bombard with so many questions, i've only ever cruised on a Carnival ship 9 years ago... And it feels like Royal Caribbean wants to bleed me dry of my money when they already charge a hefty amount for the cruise itself. Thanks in advance!
  2. Hi all! My wife and I are celebrating some big milestones (turning 30 and 5 year wedding anniversary) so we booked a cruise in February on the Majesty of the Sea. It is a 3 day cruise (cocokay and Nassau). I have no idea what to expect. I have no idea what to do for dinning. What/where do we eat at the ports? When do we get to see about shows or entertainment on the ship? Basically Im looking for a walk through so I dont have to ask a million questions when we get on the boat (even though I still will).
  3. I am curious, what the menu selections are like for the MDR for meals. Is there a copy of menus somewhere ? ( i.e. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) We are sailing Navigator of Sea In Aug
  4. See CDC link below. Overall Royal Caribbean’s food and prep is very good. The scores range from 86-100 (“Inspections scores of 85 or lower are NOT satisfactoryâ€). 22 ships of Royal Caribbean’s fleet were evaluated. The arithmetic mean for all 22 ships was 96.54. 2 of Royal Caribbean ships scored 100. They were the two “R†ships. The Radiance of the Seas and the Rhapsody of the Seas. The lowest score of the fleet was from the Freedom of the Seas (86). Click on “reports†and you can see all the noted infractions. Overall Royal Caribbean fared very well. Note: Disney's fleet scored exceptionally high among it's competitors. Here’s the CDC link: http://wwwn.cdc.gov/InspectionQueryTool/InspectionResults.aspx
  5. Thought it would be good to see what your all time top 5 restaurants are past and present and maybe over time we might see an overall clear favourite. As we only cruised with RC for the first time last year we can only list our choice from the Independence but that will change over time as we sail on more ships. 1) Chops Grille 2) Giovanni's Table 3) Windjammer 4) MDR 5) Johnny Rockets BON APPETIT :D :)
  6. Hello All, I will be on Allure of the Seas in February and I am very excited. I am calling it the Superbowl Cruise since it is during the Superbowl! Anyhow, for those of you who have been on Allure before, can you tell me how the food at the Windjammer is onboard? I have heard that the Windjammer on Allure is not that good. I cruised on Vision of the Seas this past May and I thought the Windjammer was pretty good... Hit and miss but overall good. Also, what speciality restaurants are not to be missed? We stuck to the main dining room and Windjammer on Vision and would like to branch out more this time. Thanks in advance!
  7. I would like to see maybe something like an IHOP or a Mel's Diner because you seem to always have choices for your evening meal but it would be great to have that choice for breakfast. There's just something about a stack of pancakes with a side of sausage or bacon
  8. Have boycotted Royal Caribbean for the last two years because of declining standards in food and service, we decided to chance another cruise(our ninth with RC) in April of this year. The cruise was 7 days aboard the Freedom of the Seas, sailing to the western Caribbean out of Port Canaveral. The Freedom is the largest ship on which we have had the pleasure of sailing. To our surprise, food and service standards had improved significantly since our last cruise. Overall the food quality was excellent. Royal Caribbean has obviously responding to customer demands in that area. As usual, the shows were superb. However, I have a large nit to pick regarding dress standards in the dining room on formal night. On such nights my wife and I prefer to be dressed for the occasion, as do the majority of guests. However, amongst the crowd are a few who just don't seem to get it. A fellow sitting next to us, who looked to be in his thirties, was attired in an orange flex shirt, cutoffs, sandals and an orange cap, turned backwards. He insisted on called the waiter, "Dude!" in a loud voice. To the disgust of those sitting around him, he began to utter a string of profanities. "Look at this effin' fancy ass food!" said he. "It's like bein' in an effing five-star restaurant!" No attempts were made to stem his behaviour. All those unfortunates who happened to be sitting around him were forced to listen to his boneheaded tirades for the balance of the evening. At least on Day 2, someone mentioned that he might want to remove his hat, which he did, albeit with some effing complaints. Thankfully, on Day 3, he and his party were moved to a far away alcove, where he could spew his invective in splendid isolation. Another erudite diner attempted to enter the dining room bare-chested, if you please. Apparently, he had just come from the pool, as his swimming trunks were still damp. If I begin to sound like a snob, I am most assuredly not. As is the case with good manners, dressing properly is to me, a gesture of respect directed toward those who would serve you and your fellow diners. Royal Caribbean would to well to better monitor these types of situations.
  9. I Haven't tried either yet as the Independence will be our first RC cruise. We was looking forward to trying Portofino but after her refurb it looks like it's been replaced by Giovanni's. Have we now missed out on a good restaurant or is Giovanni's just as nice.
  10. If you have just been on a cruise welcome back. How about giving us a brief view of the ship you were on and where you visited. Don't forget to leave a full review in Matts cruise reviews tab at the top of the page.
  11. In 2009 we went on Mariner of the Seas to the Mexican Rivera. The trip was great and we enjoyed the port of call. But my favorite thing I have ever done on a cruise was cooking with a chef!! Chef Makers gave classes sing the galley and bar space of the Windjammer Café. granted the classes were a bit pricey, but you got a meal and drinks or wine to go with it. we took home wonderful recipes and some extra cooking knowledge from a real experienced chef. Has anyone else ever done this? Do any of the other ships have this opportunity? I keep looking, watching and hoping. B)
  12. My wife and I have decided that on a couple of evenings it would be nice have dinner in the room on the balcony watching the sun go down. Can anyone tell me if this is a good experience or even though the RC website says you can order anything from the MDR menu at certain times are you actually limited.
