I wouldn't hold my breath for a Laphroaig of any vintage.  Dewar is their rail Scotch and they will McCallum in the casino but beyond that, it's pretty slim pickin's for Scotch.  I don't drink it (I think it stinks to high heaven...particularly those peaty Scotches from Islay) but Dan is a Scotch drinker....the stinkier, the better.  UGH

We went through this a number of months ago with Billy.  I'm sure he will chim in when he gets here.

Sometimes the bigger ships will have a better Scotch selection in the pub but they're fairly hard to come by.

Nothing beats that smoky peaty aroma of Islay Scotchs :15_yum:.  I do know it is a matter of taste and some love it and some can't stand of it but to me...

Just curious. Does ordering on an iPad make the wines taste any better? ;)

Probably not. I think to myself it would give some added value when I could browse current list and get more information of available wines from tablet. If I still after browsing have something special to ask from sommelier I can. I just usually like to operate that way.

You can set up a password.

There must be a way to get into the voice mailbox away from the cabin, I just don't know what that way is.  You could try asking once on board.

If that will work it sounds wonderful.

Good point, Kris.  The house phones are all over the place.

What do you mean all over the place. I have never cruised RCL so I have no idea. I am going to Harmony of the Seas, if that will help to answer. Are those located in elevator lobbies, bars or some other designated areas?

  4. Hi everyone!

    I live in Finland.

I have not been on RCL cruise so far. I do have my first one booked though. It will be my 40 years birthday gift from my loving wife! We are going to Harmony of the Seas Oct 13, 2018. There will be my wife our two teenage daughters, my sister in law and my father going.

I have read these wonderful blog for year so far almost daily. I would like to thank you all and especially Matt for your efforts to educate new people to world of cruising!

Ps. I apologise my bad English. It is not my native language and although I do understand written and spoken English quite well, my own grammar to write is far weaker.

There definitely is Scotch on board and it is definitely included in your Premium Drink Package. Have no fear! Defining "good Scotch" is an individual thing. For me, I "settle" for their selections of decent Scotches. They used to have a few better ones, but quality has declined in recent years. As for getting it in the MDR after dinner, my experience is that you are better off leaving the MDR, getting it at a nearby bar, and then returning to your table. Or, simply wait until you have left the MDR. The bar service in the MDR is notoriously slow. (The bar service in specialty restaurants - Chops, 150, etc. - is significantly faster, but still slower than one would like.) The other option you have is to discuss your desire with your wait staff. These guys and gals are usually incredible!! Truly the soul of the MDR. Let them know this is something you will want every night and most of these fine people will make sure it is done for you. They are very good at learning behaviors, habits, likes, dislikes, etc., but they are even better when you help them learn by simply telling them! Just remember, you are asking them for a little something extra. Reflect a little something extra in their gratuity! Finally, as for selections on each specific ship, listen to FManke's advice and search this blog for the menus. That is your best bet. Other than that, you can stay apprised by joining groups on Facebook and simply asking people who just got off of your cruise ship.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks! That was very informative and was good help. I will definitely try to tell my desire our waiter on day one. If he/she is able to provide to me my special Scotch from that evening onwards he/she definitely deserves and gets extra gratuity.

  6. Does anyone know is there a possibility to get a good Scotch for dessert in MDR? I really enjoy good quality Scotch after a good meal on restaurants onshore. Laphroaig 10y will usually be my first choice. Any change that I will be able to get either that or some other good Scotch after dinner on MDR and will that be included to my deluxe beverage package?

Keep in mind that there are "house phones" all over the ship, so anyone can call the cabin and leave a voicemail (e.g., I'm going to Sorrento's with friends for some pizza; I'll be back to the cabin at 9:30).

Do you know is it possible to listen your messages from your voicemail via these "house phones"? Or do I need to go back to my cabin for that?

  8. They could make those calls with or without the app.  As far as restricting the calls through the app - great question that I don't have the answer for.  Keep in mind though that turn off airplane mode and you can make all the $$$$ calls you want if your carrier allows it.  For the second threat you could ask your carrier if they're able to block roaming.

That carrier part has already taken care of. All data and voice roaming are disabled from my children subscription. Only way that they can make a huge surprise bill is with that app if it´s not possible to disable those pay per minute calls.

  9. Royalcaribbean pages says:

"For $7.95, Royal iQ offers unlimited calling and texting to anyone onboard who has a Royal iQ communication package. Plus, you can take advantage of crystal clear outgoing (ship-to-shore) and incoming (shore-to-ship) calls, billed at a per-minute rate."

Does anyone know is it possible to disable those outgoing and incoming calls with are billed per-minute rate? I would like to use that app to communicate my children, but I am bit concern of that they could accidentally make a big bill by calling to shore. We won't be needing that ship to shore or vice versa option anyways.

  10. Any good tips where I can get small bills for tipping? We are flying from Europe and we can not get 1$ bills from here. What would be most convenient (and free if possible) way to change let´s say a hundred dollars to 1$ bills? Can I do it onboard or is it better to do it before embarkation?

  11. Can someone please explain these to me? When booking boardwalk balcony cabin you receive complimentary amenities including:

    ·       Classic hamburgers and more at a complimentary meal for four at Johnny Rockets®.

    ·       Enjoy unlimited soft drinks throughout the cruise with a soda package for two guests.

    ·       Tackle the Rock Climbing Wall at an session for the entire family.

I thought that Rock Climbing Wall is free anyways, so what is the extra here? Does anyone know is that Soda Package upgradeable to Refreshment Package?
