  1. Sorry for the confusion. Plan is embark Port Canaveral with couple sealed store-bought sangria bottles (after all San Juan port is not until like Day 5). Then while in port at SJ maybe find a nice eatery in Old SJ that happens to offer a local flavor of sangria to be enjoyed there. Still hoping for some suggestions on local eateries in Old San Juan from folks. Thanks to all.
  2. Great info on the picture packages. But when is the "all inclusive digital package" made available? Pre-cruise purchase or only on the ship? I haven't seen any option for this in my Cruise Planner yet, but we are still a bit more than 120 days out from embark. Thanks.
  3. Thanks to all who have provided information on the ability to bring on board 2 bottles of wine per cabin. What is the volume limit per bottle of wine allowed? Is Sangria considered wine, or does it fall into another category? Also, we are hitting San Juan as a port in June. Any suggestions for places to try local Sangria flavor? Thanks a bunch.
  4. I guess I was hoping there was an area on the ship with a small WiFi presence with minimal bandwidth to allow for quick email updates. Hence the hope for the Internet Cafe. I am not keen on using WiFi in a foreign port due to cyber security concerns. And my understanding is that there may be "wired" internet access in the Internet Cafe (but is even that free or pay?), but I was not planning on taking a laptop (although I might for DVD player use for kids at night). Any other suggestions are also appreciated.
  5. I know there are a number of threads about Voom, but can someone help me with a basic "first timer" question? We only want the ability to occasionally check email from our dog-sitter/house-sitter and elderly parents in case there is any issue over the week. So we do not need streaming of major data. Do we still need Voom for 1 device to have this minimal level of contact, or is there a free email access via an internet cafe or other limited WiFi connection? Specifically on the Oasis (summer trip). Also is the current $11/day 1 device rate on the Planner the normal rate? Thanks to all those of you willing to contribute and help.
  6. I am hoping that the OBC can also be applied to the standard gratuities charged per day. Is that true?
  7. First time cruisers June 2017, and I have to say I am very "under-whelmed" by the Black Friday / Cyber Monday promotions from RCCL. The cruise rate being offered is actually 19% higher than what we already booked (and we were told then to expect the price to drop going forward, but it hasn't). The Excursion discounts are very minor, and the beverage discounts appear to be the same as previous promotions (except maybe the alcohol & Voom pkg which might be a deal if we drank much). I was just expecting more. Like I said, we are first time cruisers and we've always heard what a great deal cruises are, but so far the cruise price, plus all the "extras" are really starting to add up to be a very expensive vacation for a family of 4 (and we don't have to pay for airfare or extra hotel nights). I will say this blog has been GREAT, and I have learned so much from all of you and the Moderator. This is part of the reason we have stuck with RCCL for our first cruise. So THANK YOU to all of you. Please let me know if I am missing something on finding the real savings secrets, that may alleviate my discouragement.
  8. Great idea on the bells. We are going to try that. As for the wedge, We have not actually been on a cruise yet, but the YouTube videos I have seen on OASIS cabins, appear to show the cabin door opening outward into the hallway. If so then the wedge won't work for us. Is it true that the cabin doors (deck 6 oceanview balc) open into hallway? The luggage is a good idea to. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  9. I had not seen the Belle Hop alarm before. Might do the trick, but it depends on the door-to-frame gap size. Anyone know if the that gap on the ships is pretty close, or a bit wider than a typical hotel? The bells are a good idea, I am not sure they would be loud enough, but maybe worth trying at home first.
  10. Okay, this may be an unusual question for this board, but you have done great on the other suggestions. So... Our daughter sometimes sleepwalks in unfamiliar environments, and we are going on first cruise next year (Oasis). Does anyone have suggestions (from experience on ships) for temporary door alarm/alert units that they are confident would work for just alerting us that the door is being opened during the night (including the balcony door)? Do the metal frames effect magnetic contact type units? Or other suggestions? Am considering the "door wedge" units that have audible alert, but I know if the door is too close to the floor (narrow gap) then they do not activate. So what is the typical door-to-floor gap? Also, I don't want so loud that it ticks off adjacent cabins/cruisers. So any ideas that have worked for folks in the past? MANY thanks.
  11. Great advice from everyone. I enjoy hearing from people recently there. Especially any little "gems" of shops/eateries in Old San Juan. Any unique gift/souvenir ideas that really "represent" San Juan and are locally made, that anyone can suggest to be on the look out for? Thanks again. I enjoy the planning part. My wife enjoys the vacation/relaxing part (so I can't over-walk her). All your suggestions are appreciated.
  12. Great link/reference. Thanks a bunch. Any insider tips for visiting the forts (we are middle aged parents with teens)? My concern is that I have read that the offered excursions, really don't provide much actual time at the forts, and don't do many other "stops" for pictures or looking around.
  13. Can anyone tell me which pier the Oasis will probably use for a port call in San Juan? I am trying to figure out if it is around Pier #1 or #3 (right next to Old San Juan and trolley stops)? Or if it will be across the bay at the Pan American pier (which will require a taxi to get back over to Old San Juan)? This is not an embarkation from San Juan, just a port call. But I have read that the Pan American Pier is for the bigger ships. We are scheduled for June 2017, on the Oasis, and I am enjoying the early planning and soaking up everyone's tips and suggestions. Also any suggestions for visiting the forts would be welcome as well. Many thanks to all of you.
  14. Thank you all very much for helping with responses. I've heard so many great reviews in general, but I thrive on details. All information is welcomed. So your time and comments are very much appreciated. Hopefully I can be a helpful contributor in the future.
  15. First time cruisers. We are leaning toward Oasis or Allure, Caribbean cruise in early summer next year. Have daughters in the 12-14 age group. Before we settle on RCCL for 7 night cruise vs. Carnival similar size/itinerary, they want to know more details of what they can actually do on board. The RCCL just has general statements and mentions the big items (Flowrider, rockwall, zipline, ice skating, mini-golf...). They are not so much into just "hanging out" at a teen room. Can anyone provide any specifics about other activities that would be available to them (and costs)? Any cooking or cake decorating classes? Towel creations? Science or other learning classes (12+ level)? Is the 3D theater all ages or is there a teen specific theater? Any details to help address the "what are we going to do at sea?" concerns would be greatly appreciated. We've heard there is "so much to do", but there don't seem to be any details publicly available? Sorry if this is a repeat inquiry. THANKS.
