How does PD Mexico change the schedule?

This is exactly what I'm thinking/hoping for… …but this is my concern -
How does PD Mexico change the schedule?
Thumper44 replied to Thumper44's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
But as far as I know, Royal doesn't currently do cruises that only go to Costa Maya. That would be new and distinctly possible. -
You can get from Florida to Perfect Day Mexico (Costa Maya) in a 4-night cruise (sea day, PD, sea day). So in the current cruise calendar, where would these potential 4-nighters fit in and what do they replace? All of the following could be replaced or partially replaced with Perfect Day Mexico. There are 4-nighters to Cozumel - partially replaced with PD Mexico? The weekly Cococay, Nassau, sea day 4-nighter - replaced as part of the regular short cruise routine? The Labadee 4-nighter - replaced during Haiti's regular struggles? Obviously the 7-night Cozumel-Costa Maya-Roatan cruises would be unaffected by PD Mexico opening up. But I do see PD Mexico replacing Grand Cayman as a stop on the long trips thru the Panama Canal or down to the ABC islands. What am I missing here? Is this a good thing? Would any of these options be unwelcome?

Let me clarify, I'm not just thinking about Perfect Day Wherever from the cruiser's point of view. I like it from the economic development end of things. Cruise money going into local development means jobs and civic pride and security. That investment brings a lot of positives and only a few negatives. And I would argue that the negatives are outweighed by the negatives of when the outside development money stops flowing in. There are some places where healthy tourism and development that partners with the locals could really turn a community around.

I get what you're saying about the amusement park vibe -- not everyone wants that at every port. On the other hand, I've visited some of these places as a missionary and spent time in the worst poverty-stricken places. I'll bet 99% of vacationers would rather have "safe and clean" rather than be exposed to the actual unvarnished culture. Even at home, restaurants and entertainment venues are putting on a presentation rather than letting you see the ugly truths Just my opinion. And maybe (not joking, I'm totally serious here) you'd enjoy spending a week working in an orphanage or digging wells instead of going on a cruise. It's actually quite fulfilling and can change your whole outlook on life!

Cabo is a tender port and Oasis class ships either don't or can't tender. Does someone have a definitive answer on Oasis class ships tendering? If I had to guess, I'd guess that Mazatlan can handle bigger ships but maybe Puerto Vallarta can't (not sure but Navigator seemed pretty wedged in there). Do we know for sure? I'd love a run down on Ensenada, SD, Catalina, and other west coast ports all the way up to Vancouver (SF, Astoria, etc.). And Honolulu? Can any of these ports handle an Oasis/Icon/MSC World class right now?
-
This, emphatically. Well said.
-
Awesome summary! Great job!!!
-
That's actually newsworthy info that might not get the attention it deserves… what ports around the Caribbean (and around the world) are expanding to become Oasis/Icon/MSC World compatible? Is there a list somewhere on some random port construction website?

I think that would be amazing; I'm really excited about the land destination announcements and think this direction is a fantastic development for cruising. In an ideal world there would be a royal beach club or a perfect day in every region, although the realities of geography, violence, politics, etc etc will prevent this from ever happening completely. There are whole swaths of Mexico and Haiti and Cuba that, in a different reality, would make amazing cruise destinations. But on the other hand, locations that are inaccessible now might make more distant places (Antigua) more viable.

Mariner is the reason we will finally do a New Orleans cruise. Probably just once, but still, we can check that box and move on

Still fascinating; 1 day cruises are pretty rare -
I've previously been to Playa Mia just down the road in Cozumel from the cruise port, but I'm looking at the cruise planner (for Spring of 2027) and I'm seeing "Isla Mia" which appears to be like Playa Mia, available after Sept 1, 2025. The information about Perfect Day Mexico and the Royal Beach clubs out today indicated, I thought, that Playa Mia in Cozumel is becoming the Royal Beach Club in Cozumel. So is "Isla Mia" the Royal Beach Club or is this something separate?

Do you know what the yellow dot is near Stockholm on your map? Green dots are embarkations, red dots (usually trumped by green) are debarkations. I don't have a yellow on my map. -

They have a team to correct gaps in the data since 2016; some of my cruises were corrected after a few weeks. And they have a plan for cruises before satellite tracking. -
My wife does this too!

Any interesting course deviations? -
The best part of our day is my wife and I running around trying to imagine where a 5 year old would look (and where they should not look -- don't put a child in danger climbing somewhere precarious or get them in trouble for damaging plants or decorations).

We don't tag our ducks; we just try to imagine that they successfully find their forever home.

Yeah, before 2015 there wasn't satellite data available. But they are trying to work around that and give approximate routes. They're also adding river cruises and, eventually, future cruises. -

Great map! Did you find anything interesting on your routes? I was able to locate the course change when we had man overboard false alarm one time. -

Here's mine; we've been painting the Miami-to-Cozumel part of the map. Interestingly, viewing the map makes me want to connect the dots and extend the lines. I suddenly feel compelled to do a Panama Canal transit and branch out to a trans-Atlantic and also Hawaii and Alaska cruises. -

@Matt, I don't know if you've done theCruiseGlobe thing yet, but I hope you do and please share it. Those of us who haven't cruised as much need something to aspire to! Please take a few screen shots of your globe and let us see your total stats. We're dying to know what it looks like And I'd like to see other people's globe as well! -
Grand Cayman at a crossroads over cruise traffic
Thumper44 replied to smokeybandit's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
That's an interesting restriction, presumably to drive people ashore to drink there -- just like restricting the ship's casino. But you're right about the general antipathy toward cruise ships there. I have a cruise in 2027 that stops there with the goal of taking my wife to the turtle centre… but I'm half expecting the local government to ban cruise ships entirely before we get there.
