  1. Honestly, if you have not been to Catalina or Ensenada before, I would not book shore excursions.

For first timers, there is so much to explore and see just by walking around.

Catalina - eat at Avalon Seafood.  Cheaper ocean fare and the smoked Albacore was amazing! Also, there is a mom and pop coffee place called Catalina Coffee that has good coffee and free wi-fi (at least they did when we went in 2018.  Just walk around, go back to an empty ship and enjoy the ship.

Ensenada - well...my wife has a saying, anywhere you go, just don't look down.  Many people will likely comment on how dirty and smelly Ensenada can be.  This pretty much describes any major US metro.  Go walk around, have some Mariscos, eat tacos at a small taco shop.  Buy (or don't buy) a cheap ukelele, and go back to the ship and enjoy an empty ship.  Oh...we spent some time at Hussongs, but we are older folk now with older kids...not likely going to do the drinking at 10 am scene anymore.

IF you want to do an excursion in Ensenada, we tried the horse back riding on the beach.  For what its worth, it was nice.

A rapid test will 100% be negative

    Just curious:

Is suggesting a rapid test for the purposes of a work around in order to board?

    OR

Is the suggestion because PCR testing still picks up traces of the virus from the past?

Reason I ask is because if the OP, or anyone else, has Omicron or any other variant, and uses an unreliable test just to get on the ship, wouldn't that person potentially expose lots of other people?

On the other hand, may family had Covid last summer and I don't want the PCR test to show positive results if we are not carrying active virus.

We have a cruise in June and are trying to do the most responsible and appropriate thing.

To the OP, I am sorry your wife tested positive.  I hope that she gets over it with little to no complications.  Prayers and thoughts sent your way.

RC app is free to use without issue. Once you are connected you will have access to the ships local servers through the app for checking balances as well as reserving shows.  Chatting with other members of your party does cost extra as mentioned but it's easy enough to have notes left in a room and if someone does something they just drop by the room and leave a note.

can we use walkie talkies to communicate with our kids?

  4. Hello all!

I am new to Royal Caribbean cruising although I have been on other cruises.

I just booked an Alaskan cruise and have a question about the UDP pricing.

The RC site states an "up to 55%" discount on the UDP and lists $169.00/person.  However, the site fails to state what the original price per person per day is.  In otherwords, how do I figure out how much of a deal I am getting by paying $169.00/person?

For example, if the price was originally $30 per person, per day, for a 7 night trip, the total price would be $210.  If the sale price is $169, then we are talking about a 20% discount.

Does anyone know what the actual UDP pricing is?
