  2. Hi, my daughter (8) an i are on the IoS out of Southampton in the summer.

Am still to purchase the drink packages.

Basically i will get the deluxe and she the refreshments package.

I have seen that recently there was a deal if you had NEWLY booked the cruise, however I booked my cruise months ago.

I wonder is it worth waiting for some deal to pop up between now and the sail date, or does that never happen and i should just go online now and use the cruise planner and book the drinks packages.

    Thanks

With My Time dining you have the option to make a reservation each night or just show up when ready.

There are many restaurants here in my home town.  Many accept reservations or you can just show up and wait for a table.  If you don't have a reservation and show up during their busiest times, the wait time can be 30 or even 60 minutes.  If you show up before or after peak times getting a table without a reservation is fairly quick.

My Time dining is just like that.  Without a reservation if you go early before peak times, or later after peak times you will be seated quickly.  If you go without a reservation during peak times, you should expect a wait to be seated and probably a line just to reach the hostess to check in.

I always make My Time reservations.  I know my teenage daughter so I don't make them soon after we plan to be back from port, I give her lots of time to get ready.  I know her.  If we don't make our reservation we can always go into the "no reservation" line and wait like everyone else who didn't make reservations.

EDIT - a last resort backup plan is to eat in the buffet (Windjammer).  Dinner there isn't bad and some nights I prefer it.  Walk in anytime.

Thanks for that, I wonder that if I change my thoughts on this, can I re advise RC that Id liked to time our dinner? Can that be done ?

If you don't select a time, it will be same as any land based restaurant.  Wait for a table to open.  When we cruise, we never sit with others.  We have never had an issue getting a table for 2 or 4 or whatever number we name.  Just as long as you are prepared to wait a bit it should not be a problem.

Thanks a lot for that, great

  5. Hi all, have booked a cruise with my 8 year old daughter of Indy out of UK late August, re dining, I have gone for open dining, i.e. not selected times on booking, have I done the right thing??

Basically I felt my daughter would not be too keen on having to arrive at the main dining room at a selected time and we could be a bit more flexible.

But I wonder how it works if you haven't selected a time, we would prefer to sit on our own table the two of us and arrive and be seated when we want.

Thanks to anyone who can answer or enlighten me on the basics of how it works out the way I have chosen.

  6. Hi all....am traveling with my 8 year daughter later this year on Independance of Seas...thinking of deluxe beverage package... couple of questions.

1 - if I get that package for me can my daughter get soda...coke etc ...on that card ....or they will say its for my drinks only...

2 - basically I guess,  can I walk in to a bar order one glass of white wine and a coke pls....or is it one drink at a time for me who holds the card.

3 - if I gave my daughter the card and she walks up to bar or soda machine...will it work for her....or again they will say it's not her card...

Thanks to anyone who can advise
