  1. RCCL is running an excursion sale for my sailing on Majesty of the Seas in October.  I am trying to find an all inclusive beach excursion but am coming up empty (altho there are ones listed for the Bahamas?!?)  Any idea if RCCL has such an excursion?  If not, do you have any recommendations for reputable places to go?

Cozumel is a beautiful island but each of us needs to decide how to proceed at our own discretion.  The ferry's involved with the explosion and the one near Cancun are owned by the same person and there is speculation of a turf war.  So far there has been no suggestion of targeting US citizens.

There have been bombings or attempts in places like NYC and Boston over the past few years.  There have been numerous train derailing and bus accidents in the US over the same time frame.

Whether its walking the streets of any big US city, boarding a commuter train in our home city or visiting a tourist destination we all have to decide if we should live in a bubble safe in our homes or go on with our lives.  Spain and some parts of Europe have seen increased security incidents lately yet later this year I'll be visiting Spain to board a transatlantic cruise.

I just finished a cruise yesterday with stops in Costa Maya and Cozumel.  I enjoyed both ports just like I always have.

I live blogged from that cruise.  You can see my day on Costa Maya here:

And my day in Cozumel here:

At the end of the day you need to decide what the right thing is for you and your family.  I've chosen to carry on and enjoy life while being aware of the potential that exists everyday in my home state or while on vacation.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful post (along with those links!).  You are correct in that we can't stop our lives because of these problems.  I appreciate your insight.  If I may ask,  could one (or in our case 3) spend a day at both/either port without doing an excursions?  Really would be fine with some shopping, restaurants and beach.

  3. I saw this posted on the RC blog.  Of course I don't see it in my Cruise Planner!  I looked all over the RCCL website and can find no reference to it anywhere.  How do I find out about these sales, besides my obsessive checking here ?  Do they send emails to people booked on an applicable cruise?  Is it just dumb luck that you stumble across it?

  4. I am struggling with the drink package.  My daughter is absolutely for getting it but I am not sure we would spend that much on alcohol and the non-alcoholic drinks we would want.  We have 2 sea days and 2 port days.  I can see spending that much (currently $50 pp) on our sea days but not sure about the port days.  It would be nice to have it all paid in advance but I'm not sure how I would feel about having it overpaid in advance.

  5. Thank you, our first cruise was on a smaller ship too - Nordic Empress to Bermuda.  As we have very little frame of reference, I don't think that will be a big issue for us.  Looking mostly to relax.

If I may ask more about the beach club?  None of us are "beach" people but we would like to snorkel and a nice beverage on a beach chair does sound "relaxing"!!  What exactly is "all inclusive" and how would we get there from the ship?

    Thank you

  6. Ok, I don't even know what I need to know so I don't know what to ask.  Hubby, adult daughter & I sailing Majesty of the Seas 10/29 out of Tampa to Cozumel.  She has taken a couple of short Bahamas cruises over the last 2 years.  Hubby and I haven't cruised since 2002.  We are in a Grand Suite.

    Ok, go!!!!!!!
