Considering option to fly into and stay overnight in ft Lauderdale to save a little money. Anyone ever done this this for a cruise from Miami port, and if so your thoughts?

First time on Royal and also Miami port. On Navigator of the seas, any helpful ideas of a safe time to book flight home after cruise would be appreciated.
