Royal Caribbean removes complimentary internet offer from Majesty of the Seas

It appears Royal Caribbean has removed the complimentary high speed internet offer for Majesty of the Seas once the ship completes her scheduled refurbishment.

Cruise Critic is reporting Royal Caribbean decided to remove the offer, "due to a need for more resources for the ship's overall refurbishment that will include an expanded pool bar and poolside movie screen, family-friendly hot tubs, a kids-only pool area with the Splashaway Bay aqua park, and upgraded cabins."

Royal Caribbean had announced the details of Majesty of the Seas' refurbishment in July 2015, but has since scaled back those plans in January 2016, when they announced  the ship will not be receiving a new waterslide, new specialty restaurants in Sabor Modern Mexican or Izumi, as well as not receiving the DreamWorks Experience.

Royal Caribbean will honor the promise of complimentary internet to all guests that booked a cruise on Majesty of the Seas cruises departing May 15 to July 1, 2016. In addition, passengers who booked a Majesty of the Seas cruise on or before March 15 for a sailing departing anytime on or after May 15, 2016, will also receive free Internet. All others (anyone booking a cruise on or after March 16 for a sailing departing on or after July 2, 2016) will have to pay for their onboard Internet use.

Royal Caribbean adding Voom high speed internet to Freedom of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas

Royal Caribbean kicked off its newest sales promotion this week with the BOGO GETTER deal, and in the fine print, it alludes to which other Royal Caribbean ships will be getting high speed internet.

The deal offers free Voom internet package for one device for Anthem, Harmony, Allure, Oasis, Freedom, and Enchantment of the Seas on select cruises in 2016.

Royal Caribbean had promised Voom will be available on all Caribbean based ships by mid-2016, but it has been unclear which ships would receive the upgrade.

Given the deal for free Voom internet is only good for cruises that depart between May 1 - Sep 30, 2016, it is possible that Voom internet may not be available onboard either Freedom of the Seas or Enchantment of the Seas until those dates.

Voom internet is currently available on Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas.  Majesty of the Seas will be offering guests free Voom internet, following a scheduled 2016 refurbishment.

Voom internet is Royal Caribbean's exclusive high speed internet that allows guests to stream music and movies, upload pictures, video chat with family and friends using FaceTime or Skype, check their email, lookup their stock prices, surf the web and stay connected with work via VPN.

Royal Caribbean planning live Periscope broadcast from Anthem of the Seas on November 13

Royal Caribbean is planning a live video broadcast from Anthem of the Seas on November 13, 2015 via the new social media app, Periscope.

Royal Caribbean promised live broadcasts on Periscope when it announced its new "Come Seek" marketing campaign last month.

The live broadcasts will be available to watch from any smart phone or tablet that has Periscope installed on it.  Royal Caribbean will also simulcast the Periscope sessions at 230 geo-targeted units across New York City in high traffic commuter areas, such as John F. Kennedy International Airport terminal, newsstands and subways.

Using the Voom high speed internet, these live tune-ins from the ships to show off the experience as it's happening in real time.

Royal Caribbean previously indicated that these broadcasts will be shown around "peak commuting times".

These live look-ins via Periscope will occur throughout the month of November following the November 13th premiere.

What exactly is Voom?

Voom is Royal Caribbean's high speed internet service that provides guests with the kind of high-speed connections they are used to on land.

Voom utilizes a new kind of satellite internet technology that targets each ship specifically, rather than trying to cover a wide expanse of the ocean.

How much is Royal Caribbean's Voom internet?

As of April 2016, Royal Caribbean split up its Voom offerings into two tiers.

Voom Surf

The unlimited packages can also be pre-purchased in advance via Royal Caribbean's Cruise Planner.

Guests can also purchase a single day pass (consecutive 24-hour period) for $22.99 for Voom Surf or $29.99 for Voom Surf + Stream.

Which ships offer Voom?

Royal Caribbean CEO Micahel Bayley announced that as of May 1, 2016, all Royal Caribbean ships will offer Voom.

How fast is Voom?

Voom internet speed test on Quantum of the Seas

Voom has a latency of only 120ms and Royal Caribbean promises guests can do things such as stream music and movies, upload pictures, video chat with family and friends using FaceTime or Skype, check their email, lookup their stock prices, surf the web and stay connected with work via VPN.

Essentially, anything you can do at home, you'll be able to do onboard.

Can I use a Crown & Anchor member discount when pre-purchasing via Cruise Planner?

No, guests will have to wait to purchase their internet packages onboard the ship.
